Two friends were visiting from London and I wanted them to taste Southern cooking, without me doing the work. They thoroughly enjoyed the fried chicken cooked in leaf lard and said it was the best chicken they had ever eaten. Each also raved about the falafel and gumbo yaya. GREAT JOB BIG JONES. Now on to my meal. The duck tamales were overcooked so the masa was hard and I had to use a knife to cut through it. My catfish on the other hand was not cooked enough so the light breading (much appreciated than heavy breading) was not tan, but still beige so was a little gummy. All three of us agreed that the collard greens had so much vinegar that you couldn't taste the vegetable, only vinegar bitterness.

Big Jones was a big hit. It was a blend of gentteel Southern charm and sensibility (all the good stuff the south has to offer) - turned into something fresh, contemporary, and satisfying on all sorts of levels ... the place is easy on the eye, wows you with the food and service... Next time I'm in Chicago I will make a point of returning. Beste of all it isn't the least bit pretentious.

Brunch for six. We were seated just after the last of us arrived, and the service was execllent: prompt, friendly, attentive without being instrusive -- right on the mark. My friends all LOVED their food (Posole, Eugene's Breakfast, Spoon Bread, among others). I enjoyed the Shrimp and Grits but wasn't knocked out by it -- will try something else another time, but will definitely come back for another time! Lovely atmosphere here. I'd happily sit with coffee and dessert for a good long time. Thanks, Big Jones!

Make a reservation for Sunday brunch, then enjoy really good food, decent vegetarian choices as well as Louisiana inspired dishes. I had the blue crab eggs benedict on popovers, decadent! Of course the beignets are to die for!

A friend was in town from Brazil and had never tried southern cooking (so we had to eat it all). The beignets, popovers, cornbread, and grits were all new taste experiences and she loved it. Big Jones has always been great eats and especially when the fall / winter weather drive those warm comfort food cravings.

Worth the drive if you are in the city for 4/5 days, otherwise skip the drive from downtown. The Debris gravy was very tasty & the fried Boudin Cakes. The complimentary beingets were great, skip the Sally Lund bread or you'll need a to go box. Also, the Eggs New Orleans were quite good as well as the grits. I would've liked to browse the surrounding shops, but no time.

The server was complacent and knew no details about the menu or the wine list. My food - a cauliflower and pasta dish - arrived lukewarm with clumps of pasta. A friend's shrimp and grits looked like an appetizer portion and was surprisingly flavorless. I will not return and likely neither will he.

Big Jones is a nice comfort/cajun resturant. Try the fried chicken and green tomatoes. Excellent. I could not believe the butter beans and turnip greens. Very original southern style. You will not be dissatified with menu options. Ohh try the Finch micro brew.

First things first, let me say that the food here is pretty good and straightforward. The Boucherie tasting was the most exciting thing we had. Chicken was good but not 2nd best in the city as Thrillist claims. My biggest issue here is the service. Came on a Sunday afternoon, only two other tables occupied in the restaurant. Server took over 15 minutes to approach and take our drink order, which by that time we already knew what we wanted to eat. We ordered the Boucherie platter, and the pickle tasting as a side. Server failed to let us know that the same pickles were included on the platter already!!! So for another $9, we had pickle galore. Seriously? $130 for 3 ppl should warrant better service than this.

I've been here at least half a dozen times. I really enjoyed the fried chicken boarding house lunch the first time I visited, but each time I've gone back, I've enjoyed my meals less. For example, my sunny-side up eggs with the Cajun breakfast had clear raw egg white on top. That was the only memorable part of the meal. Still, I keep giving Big Jones chances. After Thursday, I will no longer. My food (burger, Sally Lunn, and gumbo) was okay. I had a sample of bourbon through the passport program. When I used my A La Card (giving me $10 off if I order at $25 of food), I was told that to use it, I would be charged $5 for the "free" bourbon. I was on my way to a show, so I couldn't question it. Frustrating, since the food wasn't great.

We were really looking forward to trying Big Jones - hoping to try the fried chicken - apparently not available at brunch. The cocktails were very good, and so was my omelette and the gumbo my husband ordered. The problem was the service. The server was very rushed, and it seemed like we were annoying him when we wanted a second round of drinks, etc. When the meal arrived, we were told that the biscuits (which he told my husband to order instead of the cornbread) would be another 15 minutes. I actually finished my omelette before my husband got the biscuits. My husband had 3 bites of gumbo left when they arrived. When we were given our check the waiter did say he took them off the bill.

One of my friends had gone with a group of 14 and raved about it. I went with him and was looking for this fab meal. Maybe too much hype? We and the "famous" fried chicken. Good, but not the best I've had. The sides that came with it were so-so. We ordered the Pea Falafel (nothing special), Andouille Sausage (not authentic), Pimento Cheese (pretty good) and the Sally Lunn Bread (the only thing I would highly recommend). I guess all I would say was I'm glad I went, but would not make the trip to go back and my friend, who originally raved, agreed. Maybe the experience of going with a big group gave a different impression.

Big Jones was delicious! I'm from Charleston, SC, and Big Jones' southern cuisine did not disappoint. We had the fried green tomatoes to start (light and flakey!), I had a shrimp burger for my meal, and the chocolate chess pie for dessert. All very tasty. The only minor detail I would point out is the appetizer came out at the same time as the meal. I definitely recommend Big Jones! I'll be back!

Wonderful and inventive brunch with twists on the classics such as eggs benedict on popovers instead of English muffins and with béarnaise sauce instead of hollandaise. Delicious boudin, grits, and charcuterie also. Minor issue was the juice - smallest serving ever of grapefruit juice - less than 4 oz served in a wine glass and served warm for some reason. Overall, though, nice brunch with attentive service.

This is my second visit to Big Jones. I was a bit disappointed on the quality of the food on this visit. My previous visit had been great, but this time the food was not up to par. I found most of my dishes to be very salty, and just not nearly as good as on my other visit. The service was exceptional, and all other aspects of my dining experience were good. The bourbon/whiskey selection is outstanding; this alone makes Big Jones worth a visit.

With our party of four, it was easy to park and easy to book (via Opentable) for his small gem of a find in Andersonville! I loved the off-the-menu stuffed cabbage, made with a mild rice/sausage blend and served with a spicy tomato sauce that was a bit too spicy for two of us, so we focussed on the excellent, and BIG, cabbage rolls themselves: hearty dinner! The serving of hot cornbread was wonderful! Get the baked-on-demand dessert!!! Big Jones does excellent catfish with collard and grits. Their beer offerings is very good, but the wine list is superb. For a small place, Big Jones packs a lot of food expertice into their space; I can see why our daughter loves it; yes, we'll be back to work our way down their menu!
