I highly recommend their 3 meat plate! You choose 3 meats and it comes with two sides, it is a plate full and then some! I decided to change it up this time and got the Jalapeno Cream cheese burger and boy was it yummy! Neither dish disappointed! Take home a bottle of the Big Hoss BBQ sauce if you'd like, affordable price and a great home made sauce flavor. I'm not always in the mood for BBQ but when I am I know where I will be.

Had my 30th birthday here and it was amazing!! Our server accommodated us well and even enjoyed a piece of our pumpkin pie we brought. The meat was soooo tender and we fed 4 people for under 100 bucks! Thank you Big Hoss for a fantastic evening!

Big Hoss doesn't bother checking their online reservations every day, so we were unable to get in. With 2 very elderly people with us, we couldn't wait the 30 minutes for a table. My ratings are for a previous visit.

I brought a 10-person group here for my husbands birthday this year after we did a tour on the Denver Bike Bar. I had reserved the table 2 weeks prior and when we arrived, the restaurant didn't have record of our reservation - BUT - they were INCREDIBLY accommodating, placing our group at the front of the restaurant by the open air windows and seating us right away! I was so impressed with the service and accommodation from the start. The food....out of this world! My husband and I eat very healthy throughout the week and venture out 1x weekly for a meal out. We LOVE BBQ (I am from Kansas City area) and have yet to find good BBQ here in Denver....until now! Everything we had was delicious !

Get the three meat plate, Grab two extra sides, order some cocktails and bring a friend to split! There will be more than enough food for the two of you and you wont let a single bite go to waste. This is real BBQ and just a great all around experience! If you ever get the chance this is a must have! I just can not express it enough, go, eat, and be happy!

  • Father's Day Fail

    Dined on 6/16/2013
We went with a group of 10 for Father's Day. It was 1 hour from the time we placed our order until we got our food. This was ridiculous as it seems that bar-be-que should be prepared long before the customers arrive. The server told us they were out of ribs, running low on brisket and mashed potatoes. When the food did arrive, the meat was full of grizzle and fat. I have eaten at Big Hoss a few other times and have had good and mixed experiences, but I don't think I'll be back.

I've been here a few times, and this night surely wasn't the best. The service was slow for a slow weeknight, the order was wrong, and the pork wasn't nearly as good as usual. They are usually much better than this; it was definitely a bad experience for a usually good restaurant.

  • Big Hoss did not live up to
    OpenTable Diner Since 2013
    Dined on 6/2/2013
Big Hoss did not live up to our expectations. We went for supper to celebrate our daughter's birthday. A reservation was not necessary as the dining area was almost empty and it remained so on a Sunday evening. The menu looked fun and interesting. The food was cold and did not live up to the descriptions on the menu. We were convinced that it was defrosted and heated in a microwave. One plate was incorrect - with a fatty cut of pork replacing pulled pork The fries were cold and soggy. Mixed grlled vegetables was oily green beans with bits of mushroom mixed in. One beer was incorrect, as well. (The waitress replaced it without cost) We will not return and would not recommend this place to others. Is their goal to sell only beer?

Food was excellent. Moderately priced, good atmopshere, good noise level. They have both doors/windows open to the street, so if you feels like you are eating right on the sidewalk. The chicken was mosits, ribs were well seasoned and even green beans had good seasoning to them. The Brisket was excellent. Any meat there will be worth it.

This was our first time at Big Hoss. We took our teen age kids and it was a very good choice. I thought the food was pretty good for the price overall. I was a little disappointed in the 22 dollar "steak of the day" which was supposed to be a 14oz strip sirloin which came out with a bone fat and gristle and was much less edible meat then my son's 15 dollar house sirloin was thick juicy and didn't have a drop of fat on it, so I would recommend that you don't go for that option. However, everything else was wonderful. There BBQ sauce is a little spicy as well as their veggies so if you are very sensitive to spice be careful. Their location is wonderful and the place was nice. The people are great and overall the food was awesome.

I thought that the food was good, my husband said that his food was luke warm but good overall. I asked for a shirley temple and it tasted like carbinated water, asked for another one and got the same thing; ended up with an ice tea. I think their soda machine wasn't working or something. Everyone that worked there was really nice and it was a great atmosphere!

I was very impressed with the food, staff and atmosphere. I really enjoyed dinning there and most certainly will again! The food was excellent and portions were giant!! The only downfall was that because it is a smaller place, when one man was being loud at the bar story telling...the whole restaurant got stuck listening to it. This was our first visit to this restaurant and we drove quite a long way to get there. We were not disappointed. Our waitress had fun joking back and forth with our teasing group and it was a fun, casual atmosphere. The food was great--everyone was happy with their meal and between the six of us, we tried almost everything it seemed. The only drawback was the noise. We had gone there, among other reasons, to discuss some serious issues, but we were practically shouting to each other during dinner. We ended up going outside to finish our discussion. Not sure anything could be done about this--just don't go there expecting an ambiance conducive to an intimate conversation. DO go there for a great meal!

Food was mediocre at best. Definitely don't get the fried catfish. Both the catfish and the sweet potato fries were mushy. Drinks were overpriced. Our waitress was relentless and came by way too often. She came by two times (in about 5 minutes) to try and take our money, though we hadn't put the card in yet--apparently she was ready to go home. She came by within 20 seconds of us signing our receipt, which I thought was rude. Would not go back and would not recommend to others.

The restaraunt is in a very nice quant north Denver neighborhood, with a full-service bar serving delicious barbeque. We ordered the family meal for three, the meat had an awesome smokey flavor to it, the sauce was spicey, just the way we like it. The cheesey corn was delicious, something new to us,it had a very nice creamy texture of cheese with a lot of flavor. We weren't too thrilled with the baked beans, they looked and tasted like they were from the can. The fried green green tomatoes were delicious. One person in our group is from North Carolina in which she was raised on fried green tomatoes thoroughly enjoyed them. Last but not least, the service was excellent and very accomodating.
