The food was really good for a fish restaurant so far from the coast. Creative and yummy dishes, nicely presented. Good for foodies. Two of us chose to have two appetizers each rather than an entree and one had the salmon entree. The two appetizers were filling and we probably should have shared at least one of them. The only downside was that being a smallish restaurant the tables were pretty close together so the noise level was quite high. Especially as there was a group of 8 to 10 diners adjacent to us and one of them had a loud booming voice! There's always one in a group. It was hard to hear each other across our table and we ended up either lip reading or with sore throats!

I have to admit I was skeptical but decided to try the trout burger and I was pleasantly surprised on how great it was. I also tried part of the Bison burger and it was equally good. I was here for a late lunch and it was very quiet. Nice little neighborhood restuarant. I imagine the evenings are a lively atmosphere with a connection to the bar/club next door (same building).

Great great food. Suggest going at lunch(before 4pm) as their dinner menu(also available at lunch) is quite pricey. And $10/dessert makes you end the meal on a reasonably priced note(without dessert). Got a baker husband at home so no need to ever buy specialty desserts since me can make anything any restaurant/pastry or bakery can

Had to wait a few minutes for our table, but were comfortably seated at the bar and well taken care of by the staff. Food was great, service was fantastic. Only downside was a family with a very annoying and loud toddler near us.

This is truly a neighbourhood gem. Unfortunately, the past two times that I have dined at the restaurant the music levels have been well past comfortable. Big Fish management seems to be trying to decide if it is a restaurant or a bar. The music level is disturbingly loud and it took several tables complaining about the volume levels for the servers to turn it down. It is difficult to enjoy the food and company when you cannot hear the conversation.

The food took so long that I thought I may have to slip out and get a sandwich somewhere. The only saving grace was that the waitress was very nice and fun to talk with. She did make the wait bearable but none-the-less there still is no excuse for being that slow

This was our second time here and loved it again. We asked if it was possible to alter our meals due to an allergy and the friendly staff spoke with the chef and there was no problem with it at all. Both times there we never felt rushed or pushed out the door. Love the food and the staff

We went for a free corkage date night on Wednesday and was blown away by how delicious and original the menu choices were. We started with the crab cakes which were lick-your-plate-clean yummy! I ordered the pistachio Arctic char, which I thought was going to be too much food but before I knew it I had finished my plate and was ready for dessert. We shared a gluten-free chocolate ganache with raspberries, also was very good. The service was great, they brought an ice bucket to keep our wine chilled and our waters were kept full. We will definitely be returning for another free corkage night and also want to go for Paella Sunday.

When my Husband asked where I wanted to go for my birthday, I chose Big Fish - it's a close walk, has great food and we hadn't been there since the spring. It was a good choice. As usual, the service was knowledgeable, efficient and friendly and the food was lovely. We shared the crab cakes as a starter with the kimchi aioli and slaw a perfect complement to them. I really enjoyed the cod special and was glad I got talked into the dessert special - chocolate and strawberry shortcake with whipped cream cheese. Hey, it was my birthday.

The food was spectacular! However we went for the fish and chips, booked an appointment a week in advance.. Sat down at the table and was informed they didn't serve fish and chips unless it was lunch time - which wasn't communicated to me at all up until that point. The waitress was an older woman who came across as very impersonal and gave the impression that my date and I were a annoyance or inconvenience. Will return for the food!

  • Non-traditional seafood menu

This restaurant finds interesting ways to serve seafood, and indeed, seems to offer even non-traditional types of seafood. Items on the entree menu include Walleye, Gurnard, and Butter Chicken with Lobster (all of which we tried). The appetizer menu includes a smoked fish platter which is divine. For dessert, we indulged in the decadent Maple Bourbon Pecan Pie with Pralines, Vanilla Mousse and homemade caramal drizzle - begin salivating now. It's heavenly. Even the cocktails are interesting and non-traditional - I had a Gin-GER tonic, made with (from scratch) ginger syrup as well as gin and tonic and garnished with a slice of candied ginger.

Big Fish was one of my favourite restaurants in town. We used to dine at both Big Fish and Open Range at least once a month. However, food quality & portion seemed to have declined significantly of late. We went there for the Monday raw oyster 2 for 1 deal. Oysters were fine with a few tasted mushy and not as fresh as could be. The mussels were tasty; but several did not open. The disappointment was the Seafood Pot which I had before. Mine had 3 mussels, 6 tiny little 2 cm long shrimps, 2 small fish chunks and a whole pile of potatoes and other veggies. A potato veggie soup with seafood for $23?!? The wild salmon was cooked well & tasty. The portion was smaller than before for $32. From now on will go to GreekTown instead.

If you are like us, you struggle to find restaurants in Calgary that offer a selection of fresh fish other than the conventional salmon offering. My wife and I found Big Fish. Look no more. Terrific seafood appetizer platter. My wife enjoyed the Manitoba Walleye and I selected the Arctic char. Both were done to perfection and very reasonably priced. Dinner with appetizer and drinks was about $95. We were too full for dessert.
