Big Fish is an unpretentious destination specializing in fresh fish, seafood, and a daily variety of fresh east and west coast oysters.

We are a proud member of the Oceanwise conservation program created by the Vancouver Aquarium. Most of our dishes are created from sustainable seafood sources.

Big Fish is a top three finalist in the Where to Dine Awards three years running - 2010 "Best Wine", 2011 "Best Seafood" and 2012 "Best Seafood".

  • "In landlocked Calgary, good seafood is hard to find, and typically expensive. Big Fish does a great job of finding a nice balance. A nice restaurant, without pretention, its a great spot for a nice meal."

  • "This restaurant albeit small, has a very nice basic menu and offers good value for the money, portions are decent size and well prepared. They were very receptive to our special needs. We will return, the staff was friendly and polite, the main course took a while to come from the Kitchen but its understandably in a small Kitchen and a busy night, my wife had an appetizer for dinner, the portion was very generous and so was my halibut."

  • "I took some friends to Big Fish for brunch for the first time and they said it is their favourite brunch place. Angela provided outstanding service and the food was great! Try the french toast (I don't typically eat sweet stuff for breakfast, but you could always share a slice your friends at the table). The other thing that I thoroughly appreciate is that they take reservations - I wish all brunch places did this because not a lot of people have time to wait around for hours on end to get a table and need to get on with their days!"

  • "This was my second time dining here and it did not disappoint. I love seafood and the style and quality of the meals is always amazing. I would definitely recommend the seafood platter which comes with some of the freshest tasting fish I've ever had. It is a bit of a pricier restaurant so I'd save a trip down there for special occasions but the food is always worth it. Try their sister restaurant, Open Range, which is right next door if you're feeling for some red meat instead of seafood. The food there is also top-notch!"

Great presentation, seafood was fresh and all were happy with their meals. Nice casual ambience, and attentive service. We always enjoy our lunch here."

  • "Made a quick reservation for supper following an informational meeting and it did not disappoint. The wine list was accommodating and the food was superb. The raw oyster bar is always a favorite as the PEI offerings are delightful. We keep coming back again and again as the food is consistently terrific!"

  • "Ordered the seafood Paella on a sunday. Their version is some grilled seafood and sausage on a bed of rice, not the proper paella. They didn't even cook the seafood in the rice. Rice is wrong type. Their chef needs to go to cooking school to learn what paella is. Waiter did not know what real paella is. I had to show him pics on my phone. Will not be returning for paella."

  • "The food was excellent. We had a special occasion dinner here with a group of 4. Everyone loved their meals. The food was prepared very well and everything tasted great. The only concern was it was an exceptionally hot evening and they do not have air conditioning so the temperature in the dinning room was a bit unpleasant."

  • "I have not been to Big Fish for brunch before. I ordered the eggs benny with Dungeness crab; my friend the egg dish with duck confit. We both felt the dishes were under-seasoned - disappointing for the eggs benny in particular! With such sweet crab, I was expecting a brighter, tastier Hollandaise sauce. Oh well - atleast you can make a reservation for brunch, which is pretty fantastic."

  • "Found the food overpriced for the portion received. Also considering the cost of the meal surprised no bread basket or anything on tables. Although the food was good I have had just as good elsewhere cheaper. Also the tables are set up very strangely. There are 4 seater seats for tables of two so is not intimate at all - I felt like I was "sharing" a seat with another couple. For those reasons we will not be dining there again."

  • "Service slip-ups reduced our enjoyment of this meal. 3 meals at the table were delivered, the fourth came 10 minutes later. A glass of wine meant to come with the main dish came when the dish had almost been eaten (she brought it when she brought the late dinner but the other 3 of us had already almost finished our mains at that point). Fish was properly cooked but in one case (walleye) inadequately seasoned."

  • "The appetizers were excellent. They were not quite a meal in themselves, however they were appetizers. The Arctic Char was excellent and cooked the perfect amount of time. It was Wednesday night so we were able to bring our own (preferred) bottle of wine and the corkage fee was not an issue. My wife and I each drove from the office to the restaurant and we noticed others did the same thing, so parking could be an issue. We both were able to secured spots behind the restaurant which was easy for us for we both have smaller european type cars. Larger SUVs would be an issue. Parking is probably not an issue on the weekend."

  • "We enjoyed the halibut and rice pilaf, though I thought it could have had a few more vegetables with it. The salad with the smoked salmon was excellent. The Chocolate Ganache with Raspberries I did not really enjoy. The texture was a bit mushy and it was a bit too sweet. The waitress was great, the hostess...the one who originally seated us was not really very friendly and could've smiled more. The menu is interesting, though generally quite high fat so not really suitable for our family. But we will probably be back to enjoy the halibut again!"

  • "Good food, good service. The frogs' legs were fantastic. We went on Sunday night and most of us had the paella - it was pretty good. I felt the clams could have been a little fresher (they were still good, just not great), but we are land locked and it was over all very tasty. The desserts (especially the ice cream and sorbet were fantastic). I would definitely recommend it."

  • "After wasting money on Mother's Day at the Paliser (Fairmont) in Calgary, I decided to go the Big Fish for Father's Day Fairmont $500.00 Only the desrt was the good and the service was lousy vs $100.00 plus tip Big Fish = Excellent food, great service and eggs Benedict that was superbly done--the Fairmont was way below standard"

  • "The food was amazing (as usual) and our server did a fantastic job. The only problem was the hostess, or whatever her job was, clearly didn't want to be there, and made it our problem. She didn't smile at the door or attempt to be at all pleasant, she was slamming things around with a scowl on her face, and rather than politely asking my father to tuck in so she could get a chair past him she rammed it into him, TWICE! Happy Father's Day. We will be back, as other than this we have always had wonderful food and service, but that was pretty disappointing."

  • "I love Big Fish. I love the ambiance, the background music, the service and the food. All are consistent every time I dine at Big Fish which is important to me when I go out for dinner. All six of us enjoyed our appetizers and entrees. The wine was very good as was the service. I eat at Big Fish often and will continue to bring friends and family to the restaurant. This is a neighborhood gem that should not be missed."

  • "I saw Big Fish on a Food Network show about two years ago? It looked amazing! I live in Drumheller, so when I had the opportunity to try Big Fish, I was thrilled! The menu is delicious and original. The only difficult aspect of this dining experience was trying to decide what to order! I shared the East Coast Poutine (a decadent twist on poutine), and ordered the organic chicken & lobster curry chicken hot pot with ginger rice! Yummmm! Try this "neighbourhood gem", you won't regret it!! A bonus: The staff were so friendly to us and especially to my little girl! They sent her home with a pretty shell and swordfish stir stick :)"
