A word from Big Bowl-Reston
There’s really only one place for authentic Chinese and Thai, and that's Big Bowl. It all begins with the highest quality ingredients–naturally raised chicken and beef, heirloom pork, sustainable seafood and produce grown locally. Because Big Bowl believes that the best food is made from scratch, you can taste big, bold layers of flavors in every dish, from the curries right down to the dipping sauces.

Everyone raves about the pad Thai, our spicy dishes that are truly hot, and our create-your-own stir-fry–and for good reason. Every element adds up to big taste and takes our food to another level, be it a fresh squeeze of lime, fragrant herbs or the seared Thai chilies.

Big Bowl is so big on authentic flavors that even the ginger ale is made with fresh ginger root–from scratch, of course.

Diner Reviews
  • "I reserved a table and specially requested a brownie cake with a lit candle at the table when it arrived. It wasent there and the manager apologized and said that they forgot. Upon going to get the cake he realized the browines were done so he gave us any other desert free. The food was good but lacked a lot of flavor and spice. I recommend this to those without a craving for spice."

  • "We had a great dinner at Big Bowl in Reston. We had spent the day touring DC and it was a wonderful atmosphere to unwind and relax. Everyone had different tastes and all of us loved our meals. The hot and sour soup was the best I have ever had. Our waitress was very attentive and gave us great suggestions for brunch the next morning. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "I am a frequenter at big bowl. But this time it was an extra crowded evening and the food was horrible. The green curry i had was flavorless and very watery. Disappointed this time."

  • "This is the type of place that tries to do everything all at once. Every type of asian fusion, al la carte, make your own buffet, etc. I always get the make your own stirfry. It's fine, nothing crazy. Both quantity and price are high. Good business lunch, as everyone can get what they want."

  • "Big Bowl has the best pad thai in the area in my opinion. Very light and fresh tasting. The pot stickers there are awesome as well (my kids love them)."

  • "It's in the Reston Town Center and probably b/c of that it's a bit pricey. Also, the food was just ok. I've definitely had better. :( The waitress was fantastic and it was really nice to sit outside and people watch."

  • "Ever since the first toms I ate here it is and will continue to be my favorite place. Every one I have taken there loves it and now it's the place we go for all go-out dinner occasions! It also meets all of my dietary needs seeing as I am a vegan and I have gluten and lactose free friends."

  • "Delicious food, good beer selection, friendly staff, and great patio dining (umbrella was good in light rain)."

  • "Friendly, efficient service and good, fresh food! We ate in the late afternoon so noise was not a problem. "

  • "My first Big Bowl experience was in the Chicago area and I loved it! I was thrilled to learn there was an east coast location in Reston. Food is so fresh & delicious I forget it is a chain restaurant. I love Thai food & their pad Thai is the best I've had. The sauces for the pot stickers & stir fry are so flavorful & unique. The homemade ginger ale & ginger cocktails are a must. In the warm weather, the outdoor seating is a great place to people watch. My husband & I happily drive an hour to eat here! "

  • "This is my college son's favorite Restuarant to go to when he comes in town. The food is tasty and fresh. I had farm to table for the first time. It was great. Choices with good freshness. Can't beat that. "

  • "We love Big Bowl! Eating outside is our favorite there because the noise level inside is a little robust. "

  • "The past 4 years I never had issues. But this time, we were denied a Kids Menu. Our child can't usually even finish the Kids Menu item (any restaurant same thing - she just does not have good apetite). But I spoke to the manager who said she will make an exception for "this one day" which is not what we are looking for. But the dinner itself - we always enjoy. 100% marks for that."

  • "The food choices are amazing and all are beautifully prepared. The acoustics of this restaurant are unfortunate - large open space with hard surfaces. If that could be fixed, it would be my favorite restaurant."

  • "The chicken potsticker appetizers are tasty, though small and pricey. The curry dishes were also very good. The only disappointment was the house Pinot Gringiot, which seemed very ordinary."

  • "I always enjoy a Big Bowl experience. The food is superb, the drinks are novel (get the homemade ginger ale in its various flavors). The service is attentive and courteous."

  • "We really enjoyed our lunch here- the Waitress recommended a special appetizer (crab bites) that was outstanding, and we really enjoyed building our own bowls to eat! "

  • "Big Bowl is one of my favorites in the Reston TC area. Always good food and great service. Price level is also very good. "

  • "Brought three generations here for Mother's Day. With varied food interests amongst the diners from 10 to 82 years old, everyone was able to find something that they enjoyed on the menu. All of the food was fresh and well-prepared. Though one of the runners did slam the food down on the table, generally the service was fine."

  • "My daughter and I wanted a light dinner, soup and appetizers, and know that the Big Bowl is consistently good and the service there is decent. We were not disappointed."

  • "My fiance and I took my soon to be inlaws here on Saturday evening. They had really good food, and it was a nice place inside. The only downside is that if you're trying to talk to the people you're out to dinner with, you won't hear them. The noise level is extremely bad. Primarily due to the large amount of patrons, but they also had music on, and I believe that makes the patrons have to speak louder. Overall it was a good exeperience, but I can't remember the last time I was at a nice restaraunt and the noise level reminded me of Redskins game. Otherwise the cocktails were great, the apps, and the main dishes were as expected."

  • "Don't come here if you want to be able to talk to your table mates! It's so loud you can't hear the person talking next to you. The service was pretty slow, to the point that we wondered why we ordered an appetizer because we really just wanted our food at that point. Taste of food was pretty good, but not sure that overcame the other issues of the place"

  • "Big Bowl is always packed at the Reston Town Center, but their food is very fresh and great table service. The chicken lettuce wraps are amazing, as well as the Shrimp Pad Thai. Always come back here for my favorite dishes. Great ambiance as well."

  • "The service was good and food delicious. I'd go back again."

  • "Big Bowl seldom disappoints. It has a lively air. Not the least of it is due to its energetic servers. Many of them are young. All of them seem spirited. There is a quality of enthusiasm in this restaurant. The food was good. But -- I have to say this -- it wasn't wonderful. The quality was less than what I am used to here (I have dined here often). It was just okay."

  • "Big Bowl has been a favorite restaurant of mine for years. My most recent dining experience has not made me think otherwise. The server was courteous, took our order correctly, and was timely with our requests. I have no doubt that I'll return to Big Bowl again in the near future."

  • "Great food and service. Family friendly we will go back."

  • "Food is good. The menu could use some enhancements. Meals say "spring" vegetables or "in season vegetables" but the Waiter's sometimes don't know what's included. The restaurant is extremely loud. Sitting across from someone and you can hardly hear them. Also, not sure why they allow you to reserve a table, you always have to wait even with a reservation."

  • "Excellent food and service. Short, expensive wine pours. Very loud music-good music, just rather loud. Food is always delicious."

  • "We went to Big Bowl twice and enjoyed it very much. We had pot stickers, vegetable and chicken, they were awesome and three sauces made them better. Also had pad thai and sweet scallops and shrimp both were very good and would get them again."

  • "My friend got her usual -- BBQ fried rice -- and was very pleased with it. I tried a lunch special -- field green salad, sesame chicken, and an apple crisp for dessert. We shared the dessert -- it was delicious. My sesame chicken was spicy and flavorful. Our waiter, Milton, was attentive and personable. We'll ask for him when we return -- and we will!"

  • "Server was fine, but really not pleased with any of the food. Wonton soup was like none I'd had before. Vietnamese chicken soup tasted like cilantro and nothing else. Orange chicken was more like orange chicken crumbs...very tiny bits of chicken. Mongolian beef had a good flavor - when you could find some beef. The green onions and other vegetables overwhelmed the dish. And the brown rice was terribly dry and tasteless. We've only been there once before, and we were equally underwhelmed. Steamed dumplings were the only thing we had that we really enjoyed, unfortunately."
