A word from Big Bowl-Reston
There’s really only one place for authentic Chinese and Thai, and that's Big Bowl. It all begins with the highest quality ingredients–naturally raised chicken and beef, heirloom pork, sustainable seafood and produce grown locally. Because Big Bowl believes that the best food is made from scratch, you can taste big, bold layers of flavors in every dish, from the curries right down to the dipping sauces.

Everyone raves about the pad Thai, our spicy dishes that are truly hot, and our create-your-own stir-fry–and for good reason. Every element adds up to big taste and takes our food to another level, be it a fresh squeeze of lime, fragrant herbs or the seared Thai chilies.

Big Bowl is so big on authentic flavors that even the ginger ale is made with fresh ginger root–from scratch, of course.

Called them at 5:47 pm on a Saturday night and they told me on the phone they could not accept a reservation over the phone till at least 7 pm. I immediately got on Open Table and made a reservation for 6:15, the time I really wanted, and when we got there, our table was waiting for us right in front and it looked crowded. When we left, there was a line for a table. Food was great, service quick. Just what I wanted.

We like Big Bowl when we are in the mood for a light multi-Asian dining experience. It is usually bustling but we were there on s nice, quiet Sunday night. I got a cup of Pho soup and 2 appetizers (potstickers and rolls) and my husband got his favorite beef entree and string beans. We usually go to Big Bowl about once a month or so.

We always enjoy the food at Big Bowl - excellent, fresh, very tasty. We decided to try the Sangria and got a pitcher. Big mistake. Although it tasted great, it was more appropriate for a table of kids rather than adults who were looking for a grown-up drink. It clearly had only the bare minimum splash of wine. They should advertise it as juice and charge accordingly.

We really enjoyed big bowls make-your-own stir fry. Aside from that it it wasn't very fun. The noise level was so high we had to shout at each other! The waitress kept pushing things at us, almost forcing their 'special' appetizer on us. The cocktail special margarita was so bad (seriously tasted like sour line and salt) we sent it back. I've never had to do that before.

we were not happy with the Food. Say for example the Lettuce Wraps with chicken. It was not a great Appetizer. We ate many times in PF changs and we felt the taste in PF Changs was better. The Chicken Items were too much deep fried and they were hard . They should be smooth. May be your Big Bowl may be attracting lot of new groups . we will not come back to this Big Bowl for some time and we will not refer it to someone.

Even tho we made reservations, they tried to seat us at the bar area with our kids. Then they claimed it was homecoming so they had no seating! Eventually was sat at a 4 top table with 5 people. Waitress was terrible. She took our drink and tried to take food orders but we had questions that she had to run back to the kitchen to find answers (ingredients in sauces for gluten free). She eventually came back. After 30 min without appetizers or food, we left the restaurant, never to return. The worst experience for our anniversary dinner ever!

Mushy potstickers, bland dumplings all served floating in watery thinned soy sauce. Barbecued spareribs are one inch chopped rib portions that are mainly solid fat, what meat remains is dried, overlooked and covered with a gluey, over sweetened soy sauce. No spices, no variety.and that is just the Appy offerings.. Thai side mainly offers heat as the predominate flavor. You're better off going to a strip mall take out joint or any Eden Center restaurant.

5 of us went for dinner. It started out on a bad note with the restaurant telling me I had made a much earlier reservation than I did. So they cancelled the reservation. The food was okay. I asked for their special pork with rice. It really was an American type barbecue pork not like the Char Sui that I expected. Our appetizer was quite good though. I was expecting the food to be more authentic rather than Americanized. Service was just okay.

Mid-week work lunch took WAY too long, over an hour and a half. They should know that people in business attire don't have that kind of time to spend on lunch, and bring food faster. There were stretches of 15-20 minutes where we wouldn't hear from a waiter at all, I believe they only checked on us once during the entire meal aside from bringing items specifically ordered. Would not recommend.

I took my client to lunch and she was very impressed. Because she had never been there we were served complimentary veggie won tons which were delicious! We split the lettuce wraps and the steamed chicken won tons (which I was leery about getting but they were awesome!) I had the stir fry bar which is never a miss and my client got sesame chicken without the sesame seeds and added tofu. They are very flexible with menu options. I love this place!

This place gets a lot of walk-ins (and they hand out pagers) so showing up with a reservation turned out to be a good idea. We did have to wait a little, but got seated more or less on time. The food is not all that different than what you'd get at your local Thai or Chinese place, but presented nicely, and when they say it's hot, it's hot. Services was very attentive.

This restaurant has been very good at times but other times not good at all which makes me afraid to go back or to recommend it. First, the spicy dishes are sometimes so spicy you can hardly eat them and then other times not spicy at all. They seem to put very little meat it in some of their entrees while others are sufficient. One time the fried calamari was delicious and the next very salty. Also, they removed some of their better items from the Thai portion of the menu. They are very nice though and accommodating.

I booked seating for 16 ladies and big bowl was able to accomodate all together in a large seating area. The lunch menu had fewer choices but each dish ordered was delicious and our server was wonderful, professional and maintain a great mood during the entire time. I visited big bowl many times with my family or co-workers but this was the first time that I experience with a larger group. Since it was my birthday it was memorable!

My wife and I have gone there many times and have loved it. This night they put the wrong sauce on our bowls and by the time someone was around to complain, we just ate it. The sauce they used, a hotter sauce than requested is always one of the sauces we would also order so we were not that badly put out but the service so we could not correct it was the problem.

Big Bowl is our 'go to' dining spot when we last minute don't feel like cooking. The food is consistently great, and the servers are top notch. They don't hover, but are always attentive. It's a place we see many 'repeat' diners. The booths are comfy and you are allowed to enjoy a leisurely meal. There is no pressure by the servers to 'hurry' your meal so they may turn the table. I give this restaurant a big 'THUMBS UP', not only for their food and service, but for their commitment to environmental stewardship and supporting local farmers.

We don't know what it it was but dinner at Big Bowl was the best we've had. The stir fry chicken with all the vegetables and sauce that were added were outstanding. So delicious. There was a slight delay in having own bowls stir fried. We honestly didn't even realize there was a delay. Nevertheless, the manager came over to apologize and offered us complementary desserts. This kind of goodwill and caring about the customer goes miles toward making us feel welcome and wanting to keep coming back.

    Dined on 8/31/2014
After many years of dining at many LEYE Group restaurants (including the Big Bowl in Chicago's River North neighborhood), this visit to the Big Bowl in Reston was a big disappointment. On entering, there was a very strong smell of burned oil in the air, and the small dishes on the table had a thin film of oil on them. As you might imagine, the entrees were incredibly oily, using too much oil even in what should have been lighter selections. The kitchen apparently has a heavy hand when it comes to the oil, perhaps needing a bit of retraining if they're using so much as to send that very distinctive (and unpleasant) smell wafting through the restaurant. We should have turned and left once we smelled the oil, a mistake we very much regretted.

Big Bowl is a neighborhood gem; it never disappoints. Went with a friend. Ordered: Green Curry Chicken, Sweet Ginger Shrimp and Scallop, Shrimp Pad Thai and Citrus Curry. The first two were excellent, the third was better than good, the fourth -- tried for the first time -- was a little below the par. The service was cordial. On the whole a good experience.

This is the first time I've ever had a problem at Big Bowl. Usually the food is delivered quickly but this time it took 45 minutes to have 2 entrees served. It was shrimp and scallops...2 meals that cook very quickly. I am not sure what the problem was but it wasn't my best experience...once we finally got our food we had to rush to eat it and be back to our jobs without going over the designated hour for lunch. Our waitress was slow and the kitchen seemed to be horribly backed up.

The food here was good and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. I found that there were a lot of options on the menu, especially fresh options: they make their soups fresh daily, and the ginger ale is made in house. They also have a "make-your-own" stir-fry bar like those Mongolian grill places, so you can get exactly what you want. I had the ginger ale and ordered off the menu. The crab cake-like appetizer I had was OK, but the beef dish that I had (12-spice beef, I think it was called) was excellent. I didn't try dessert, but they looked pretty good as well. If I am in the area again, I'll probably be back.

Service is pretty good at the tables but the front desk handling reservations was extremely inefficient - even with two people and individual computers, they were processing one party at a time. The table we sat at was supposed to be for 6 people but ended up squished between two other group tables so the manager had to request one of the tables to move a little bit which still left us with bare minimum space. That said, food was VERY good - everyone at the table raved about their meals on the way home both in terms of creativity and taste. So I'd probably still go back there - I do recommend reservations.
