A word from Biff's Bistro
Reminiscent of a 1930's Parisian Bistro, Biff's Bistro is a smart, upscale masterpiece by Toronto über-restaurateurs Peter Oliver and Michael Bonacini. The stylish lounge, featuring a stunning zinc-topped bar, represents pure vintage design, while handsome leather banquettes, warm wood paneling and grand mirrors create a rich, lively dining space. In this setting, Chef Amanda Ray presents an extensive menu of inspiring French bistro cuisine, with an impressive corresponding wine list. Located in the heart of downtown, just steps away from many downtown theatres, hotels and the Air Canada Centre.

Diner Reviews
  • "Service was good. Tables too close together for private conversation, and could easily other people’s conversations. Very noisy when Biff’s was crowded. Salad and Escargot were very good, but I found the beef bourginoun gravy too greasy. although tasty. Hope this helps."

  • "I always love an unpretentious French restaurant that doesn't compromise on quality. While the oysters are what draw me in, I always order other dishes and everything is always excellent. I've tried the steak tartar, escargot, boston hearts salad, and steak frites. The steak was a wonderful medium rare, and the appetizers were a little small but delicious. Definitely different from the escargot I've had in France but still yummy. Biff's is definitely a favourite!"

  • "A very nice evening. very good meal, service and ambiance. wine list is limited but tending to the pricy side, For dessert they were out of Sauternes, so the wine steward offered us Port. I will definitely be back."

  • "The best thing about Biff's is the food - I've been here many times and not once have I been disappointed with any of their dishes. My favorites include the seared fois gras, braised beef cheek, pave de Richelieu, scallops and of course oysters :)"

  • "Biffs do a great Prix fixe and on Sundays it's free corkage so you can get an excellent meal very affordably. Crucially it's also pretty well frequented so even though we are at 6.30 it was nicely buzzing. Going off the Prix Fixe gets you the most reward though as the steak tartare, octopus salad, oysters (at a buck a shuck!) and a solid steak frite. Ask for their homemade mustard with your bread - they normally bring it with the main course but it's do delicious you'll want it sooner!"

  • "Had lunch at Biff's this week and was really disappointed. The restaurant was not particularly busy. We ordered only mains (a salad and a burger) and it took over 30 minutes for the food to be served. Not too impressive."

  • "It's a great restaurant, I ordered the trout which is very flavourful. I ordered a side of frites, loved the frites as it had some sort of herb which was fantastic. The dessert is also delicious - with the gateau au chocolat with chantilly cream - definitely not your average whipped cream. Service was attentive, bread was refilled on order and was fresh, water replenished regularly. Staff was attentive without being intrusive."

  • "Biff´s Bistro combines quality, good service with a gentle environment. Brings together a local print with an European touch. Very well located. I want to highlight the warm welcoming and service disposition to help in making a nice experience to have. Looking forward to my next time there."

  • "Buck-a-shuck oysters after 5 pm on weeknights! They only have 700 but they keep a running tally on a board near the hostess desk."

  • "I ate here 12 years ago for my wife's 40th birthday. I took my nephew here for his 25th birthday this time. The food and the service were good. I had told the hostess that we were celebrating a birthday and asked that they bring my nephew a dessert with a candle and she had said she would tell our server. Nothing was done as promised. The portions were the size of appetizers not main courses. Wine list was excellent"

  • "Have been to Biff's a few times, mostly in the summer siiting outside. This was our first time on a Sunday, we brought our own wine and were quite pleased to find out that there was no corkage fee on Sunday's (a little bonus). Meals Ribeye & Lamb, both very good. While we were quite pleased with our service we noticed that the table next to us had a couple of timing issues etc. Overall experience was very good and we expect to return."

  • "went to Biff's before a concert. The mushroom soup and tomato soup were excellent. Ohhh the duck. Moist, pink, tender with bits of confit leg, spaetzle which was tender and buttery, small bits of crunchy cabbage and a tomato jam. Duck was in an orange sauce. Loved it. shared a gateau chocolat with a warm ganache and crunchy peanuts. Rich and decadent. Service was attentive and friendly."

  • "Went for $1 oyster deal (everyday after 5). Countdown on Fridays is 700 oysters (from New Brunswick) but be warned, they go fast! By 7 it was already at 430. Each table is allowed to order 24 oysters but you can order another round once it arrives at your table. I was surprised to see how small they were, from other pictures they look bigger. Everything else is pricey so I opted for the La Crêpe de Jardin ($21) which was very good. The waitress did a lovely job of recommending an amber beer from Muskoka (I wanted something similar to Guinness. This one is lighter). Service is great. The waitresses are attentive and pleasant. The manager walks around chatting people up. Great spot for a date night."

  • "hard to rate a restaurant when you leave before you even order main courses. terrible service. the server started off well (which should be expected since we were the first ones in the restaurant), he brought our drinks and never came back. we were waiting for well over 45 minutes to order, finally we were so fed up that we decided to leave hungry."

  • "Our uninformed waiter and seating near the windswept front door didn't ruin the experience . The good news - the food was delicious and everyone commented that they would definitely make a return visit. I'm not going to comment on the oyster deal they offer in deference to Rodneys, Oyster Boys, Phoebe's, John & Sons, etc. who charge 3 to 4 times what Biffs does - oops I just let the cat out of the bag!"

  • "Took my Dad here for dinner on Saturday, March 1 for a belated birthday dinner. We haven't had time to catch up much, and it was great to finally get the chance. The food was amazing - Chicken Liver Parfait and Duck Confit are holy any day of the week in my books! I so wish Biff's Juicy Red and Canoe Riesling were sold in stores - O&B's house wines are simply incredible! The restaurant was busy with guests in a rush to attend a Sting concert, but all the staff were calm, composed and professional at all times."

  • "Although the restaurant was crowded last night (pre Sting concert), the staff at Biff's really made us feel like VIP's and acknowledged our special occasion dinner. If you haven't tried it yet, then I highly recommend the Charcuterie plate to share as an appetizer. The prix fixe menu is great value at $35 and the quality is always excellent. Last night, Chef Amanda Ray invented a special dish for me since my favourite dish has recently cycled off the menu. That extra effort and superb dish was truly appreciated. Everyone at Biff's works so hard to make our dining experience memorable on a consistent basis. That's why it's our #1 choice !"

  • "Friendly, unobtrusively frequent visits to table, professional, and very good dishes. Not a place for counting calories but portions are perfectly sized if you do and are willing to let go a bit. Modest menu with delicious selections. One of my faves in the downtown core to bring high profile clients for casual lunch or dinner, to relax and have a conversation."

  • "We went for dinner before a concert at Koerner Hall, and had a fabulous time. The service was impeccable, and the food was amazing. We both had the prix fixe menu. I started with the Mushroom Soup, continued with the Beef Bourguignon, and finished with the Coffee Bavarois. The flavours were superb, and I left with the distinct feeling that I just eaten the best meal Ive had in several months. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone..."

  • "To entertain a client, to woo a lover, or just to treat yourself to a fine but unpretentious meal, I choose Biff's. This is a pretty, French-inflected room with graceful, well-thought-out menus and professional servers. No one will ask "Are you still working on that?" The food will please refined palates, and references classic bistro more than cutting-edge cuisine. No molecular this and foamed that, but hardly sauce-heavy or retro. In other words, Biff's knows exactly what it's there for; to elevate your experience with a deft hand."

  • "Went out with my girlfriend on Valentine's Day for supper. She has high standards when it comes restaurants. She will usually point out to me what she finds wrong with a place. From the decor to food, service etc. But with Biff's Bistro, she has nothing but high praise. And I must say she is right. Plus they validate parking if you park underground, you only pay $2.This place will definitely be one of our favourite places to dine in."

  • "We booked a table at BIFF'S for a rare adults only night out Because of the price point, we chose to go during 'Winterlicious' I think ' Winterlicious' is a great way for restaurants to open their doors to people, like ourselves, who don't normally go to restaurants a that presume to be 'higher end' The salmon rillette tasted like my great aunts salmon salad with way too much mayo The cheese for dessert, dry bread that should have been a crouton?! VERY small pieces of unremarkable cheese 'Biff's' had a great opportunity to create new clientele , I thought that was the point? We will never go back, nor recommend 'Biff's' Missed opportunity, this town has too many great restaurants to charge so much money for such so-so food"

  • "This is our third visit to Biff's. And each time our food and service has been excellent. My wife started with the salmon salad appetizer and I had the boulabese entre which was light on the broth (less of a soup than expected) and seafood, but had excellent flavour and a wonerful piece of halibut cooked to perfection. My wife then had the boulabese for her entre and I had the seared trout with capers on greens...excellent. The waiter ensured our glasses were always full and after commenting on the fact it was our 25th valentine together he had the kitchen write on my wife's desert plate - Happy 25th Valentine's Day Anniversary. Totally unexpected. Well done. Looking forward to our next excuse to visit Biff's Bistro."

  • "I took my Fiance (engaged just before getting to the restaurant) to Biff's for Valentine's Day, and I had called ahead to inform the restaurant of the engagement. Biff's waiter and manager were incredible. They were friendly the entire time, providing great service and food. My Fiance and I were amazed at how great the food was, how relaxing the music and decor was. The food price was well priced. It made the night, a once in a lifetime event, turn out to be one of the greatest Valentine's Days we have ever had. I will not only recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a special night out, but I will guarantee that it is not the last time I dine there. I have not had an experience like this in Toronto in a long time. Thank you Biff's!"
