Only had lunch, and we were the only diners at the height of the lunch hour (not actually surprised by this, in retrospect). The bartender was our server, and his attentive service was the highlight. Both meals were overcooked, except for the potatoes which seemed more leftover than intentionally overdone. The schnitzel, the supposed specialty of a German pub/restaurant, tasted like something from a fast food restaurant (think "McSchnitzel"). Seems like a great place to drink beer (the selection is vast and diverse); just don't bother wasting your time or money eating.

Overall i would give this restaurant a Fair rating. When we first go there we noticed a weird smell which didnt go away the entire time we were there. The beer list was great and the pretzel appetizer was awesome. That is about where it ends. The pierogies were cold for both our orders and the overall atmosphere was lacking the German feel i was hoping for. I will most likely not be returning.

First, they didn't have the beer I wanted. Second, three out of four dinners were brought to our table; the fourth one had been "forgotten"--though they did offer that diner a free dessert. Her entree finally arrived after we three had finished eating. Then we ordered dessert; they did not have the dessert one of our party ordered, so he joined the others in ordering an apple strudel. The waitperson reteurned--only three apple strudels were available. And this was at 7:40 p.m. on New Year's Eve, so I'm sure those who dined later didn't get an apple dessert at all! We who got the strudels shared with our fourth friend. I ordered coffee, and was told, "We serve beer, not coffee." We will NOT return to this restaurant!

Went for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. It was a little quiet but picked up some as time passed. The bartender, who was also our server, was great! The beer selection is amazing! He was helpful with the menu and very congenial. The pretzel appetizer with dipping sauces was addictive. We loved the knock wurst and goulash. Unfortunately no room for dessert!

This proved not to be what we expected when we booked the table. The music (via IPod and house system) was extremely loud so talking across the small table was nearly impossible. The food was OK at best, with most things fried. A gastropub this ain't. The beer list was also disappointing: the number of draft beers was smaller than expected and most weren't German. There was a large number of bottles to choose from but I don't need to go out to drink beer from a bottle. I can get any of those at the liquor store down the street. Service was average to average plus. There was no crowd (despite this being a first Friday) so we could linger as long as our ears and arteries could take it.

After a LONG day of touring with the kids, Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House, Elfreth's Alley the tour guide recommended Bierstube to everyone. We were really hungry and the kids were restless so we wanted somewhere close to the sites. We couldn't have picked a better place. Everyone was really nice and they sat us and the kids at a table that was actually made out of a canoe. That kept the kids happy staring in the table filled with oars and other sailing things (you have to see it to understand). My husband loves good beer so he was in his glory. There were five pages of beers, I had no idea so many beers existed in the world. I'm a wine fan and was happy they had excellent wine too. And the food was FANTASTIC!

Three of us went for lunch since we had went here a few times when it was Asian Bistro. The German foods with Asian influences was attention getting. We split the pretzels that came with 3 dipping sauces. The sriracha/plum sauce one was not great but the whole grain mustard dip was traditional, and the beer cheese dip was delicious. For my lunch I ordered the grilled cheese which had add-on available but I ordered the tomato jam on the side. I was simply, and surprising the best addition. The waitress said they make it in the restaurant. I took the rest home it was so great. My friends got the bratwurst platter & the hamburger with the bratwurst....the loved it. We will return. BTW - Huge beer list!!

We went for Lobstober Fest, to take advantage of the Lobster specials. Nothing wrong here, but not wowed by anything. The lobster I had was small, the "butter" for dipping was overwhelmed by herbs so as to mask the lobster flavor. My husband enjoyed his lobster mac n' cheese and mini boot of beer. We will return to try out some of their German food next time.

We went here with a group of 30 University of Pennsylvania graduate students for the Labor Day holiday and to start our new semester. They had outdoor seating for about 20 of us and the other 10 sat inside the restaurant. The restaurant was busy but the staff was very attentive to our table. They had a huge beer list that really surprised us all, no one ever saw so many beers available at once. The food was fantastic, everyone in the group loved their meals and we stayed for a long time ordering more and more great food. The restaurant was very comfortable I don't understand how someone could complain about air conditioning broken one day no one can fix it that fast. Everyone had a great meal at a great value so we'll be back again

THE INDOOR TEMPERATURE WAS OVER 80 DEGREES!!! THE MANAGEMENT DID NOTHING T0 ACCOMODATE THEIR CUSTOMERS WITH A COOL "DRINK ON THE HOUSE" OR A FREE ICE CREAM FOR DESSERT. THE WIENER SCHNITZEL WAS OVERDONE, DRIED-OUT, AND TASTED LIKE IT HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY COOKED AND RE-HEATED. THE MEAL WAS OVERPRICED FOR THE QUALITY OF FOOD THEY OFFERED; I PAID OVER $100.00 FOR TWO DINNERS AND FIVE BEERS...NO DESSERT...WE WERE TOO HOT AND WANTED TO GET OUT OF THERE AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. THE MANAGEMENT SHOULD TURN-ON THEIR AC SYSTEM EARLIER IN THE MORNING TO LOWER THE RESTAURANT TEMPERATURE TO OFFSET ANY EXTREME WEATHER FORECAST. THE EMERGENCY PURCHASE OF A FEW FANS WOULD HAVE GONE A LONG WAY. THE LACK OF ANY RESPONSE DISPLAYS A LACK OF MANAGEMENT SKILLS!!!

If you like a variety of genuine draught beer, and don't want to be stuck with regional micro-brew want-to-be selections, this is one of the prime locations in the area. The entrees are not inexpensive, but everything tasted good; they could be a little more generous with the spaetzle ($16 for a good size wurst with a small portion of spaetzle on the side of the plate). The schnitzel was delicious. High marks for the food and the overall experience. Our server was nice, but at a time of little activity (early dinner), we could not get her attention to pay and get out; it took too much effort. Also, no one speaks German, you would not know from setting you are in a German restaurant. Rather it looks and feels like a small bar.

I really wanted to like Bierstube, in part, because I love its sister restaurant Eulogy, but I didn't. While the service was good and the beer selection was great, the food was relatively expensive and not very good. I also found the atmosphere lacking, much more bright and sterile than I had hoped for. I'd recommend Bierstube for beer and appetizers, but get dinner somewhere else.

THE MEAL WAS QUITE GOOD. THE POTATO PANCAKES REMINDED ME OF MY NANA'S-SHREDDED POTATOES, BUT STILL PANCAKEY; YUM!!! THE SCHNITZELS WERE EXCELLENT-THIN, CRISP, FLAVORFUL, NOT GREASY, AND TOPPED WITH BEURRE BLANC. THE PIEROGI WERE TASY PILLOWS PAN SAUTEED.THE BELGIAN FRITTE CRISPY, HOT AND SERVED WITH A GREAT AIOLI. The food here was horrible. Started with the pretzels and beer cheese sauce. The pretzels were good but obviously just frozen pretzels they heated up and the sauce was runny. The pierogies were Mrs. T frozen perogies and nothing more. French Fries were basic out of the bag frozen french fries. (Not Belgian Fries as advertised.) The pretzel roll I had for my chicken sandwich was stale and I couldn't eat it. Same for someone else at the table. Had to eat the sandwich without the roll. The schnitzel was average. Defnitiely not a good meal for anyone in our party of four. The waiter was kind and efficient.

The service was not too good. Had to ask for bread for the table. Then had to ask for butter or oil. When my appetizer came I had to ask again for plates since we were sharing. The wine list consisted of about 6 wines. I was ok with that since the specialty here is beer. Problem was....they only had one of the wines. They were out of the others. The food that we ordered...the pork brats, apple slaw, pirogies (sp) were good. I wasn't crazy about having the mustered in the warm German potatoe salad but..wasn't bad. I tried to get a reservation on open table for 7:00 PM and there was none available...at least on open table. arrive at 7:30 and the place was nearly empty.

4 of us went to Bierstube after Flyers game on Saturday night. Food was very good, we shared several appetizers, wings, cheeseplate, mussells and had some burgers. Only complaint was that the mussels were a bit on the big side and therefore a little chewy. No complaints at all on any of the other items. Hot foods were served piping hot and the cheese plate had 3 good, distinct selections. The four of us couldn't agree on which burger we thought was best between the Dragon burger and the German burger but you won't go wrong with either one. The beer selection was top notch although we were a bit disappointed on missing out on the Russian River Consecration (keg kicked before we arrived).

Great restaurant! The food and the service were both excellent. One little snafu: they brought my dinner out in the sandwich version instead of the entree. I took off the bread and didn't say anything - it was the same thing, after all, I didn't mind. A few minutes later the waiter came to apologize and told me they were making me the entree to take home complimentary. We were going to a movie, so I politely declined. When the bill came they had taken off the price of the beer I drank. I had the weinerschnitzel and pierogies. AWESOME! My husband had the brat platter and loved it - said it was the best sauerkraut he's had in the city. We'll definitely be going back!
