Diner Reviews
  • "This place isn't too fancy as the waitresses were in jeans and boots but the food was very delicious. I ordered the penne a la vodka which was not on the menu but it was FANTASTIC! Best chicken pasta I've tasted in years! My boyfriend had their pizza and that was also very scrumptious. I only gave it 4 starts because the lime served with the drinks was very dry looking. Other than that, I had a great time and it's very affordable."

  • "Very uncrowded the night we were here ( a rainy night) Bettola was friendly and welcoming. A little hard to find in the rain - it's in the middle of the black with a dark awning. Not sure what the noise level would be if it were full, but it was blissfully quiet. Pizza oven right in the dining room. On this night it looked wonderful - don't know what it's like in hot weather (where you do have the option to sit outside.) My arugula and fennel salad was huge and delicious, and we loved the asparagus with ricotta. Excellent al dente pasta and light cheesecake at the end. I'm going back."

  • "I went here for dinner and had the lasagna - it was delicious, the only downside was that I wanted more of it! A bit pricey, but it's the UWS and it's worth it to treat yourself. I also got a free glass of wine for checking in on Yelp :)"

  • "We had fish, pasta, salads, and pasta and all were good. And its so much quieter than Nice Matin up the block."

  • "We dined at this restaurant before a concert at the Beacon theater which is within walking distance. Food was very fresh and tasty, house wine was good and service was reliable. I had the chicken and my mother had the vegetable lasagna, we both enjoyed our meals. We had the beet salad to start and it was good although a bit dry and I would have preferred another fruit over the peaches. Very affordable for an above average restaurant."

  • "Tried restaurant solely based on reviews submitted before me and am so glad I did. Great food, great ambience, having a nice quality dinner that won't break the bank"

  • "One of my favorite upper west side, small, neighborhood restaurants. the pizza is the perfect thin-crust kind and the salads very fresh. Its a quiet restaurant also, a big plus."

  • "Prices for wine very high, and both my friend and I did not like the glasses of wine we ordered. Food very good, but wine terrible."

  • "I enjoyed our lunch immensely - the staff was friendly and responsive. Even the handyman helped me with a problem with the Muni Meter when I parked in front of the restaurant!"

  • "Going into NYC on New Years eve with tickets for a concert at 9PM. This could be a stressful experience due to NYEve. I can tell you it was so pleasant and stress free it made our night. Wil be going back soon. Great food and atmosphere. Caring service"

  • "I first ate at Bettola a few years ago when I stopped a family walking on Amsterdam and asked them if they had a favorite restaurant in the area. They directed me to Bettola and because of the wonderful experience I had there, I've been dying to go back. Finally was able to return last weekend and all remains the same--still marvelous. There were 5 of us in our party and we had soups, salad, pasta, and wine. Everything was so tasteful and cooked just right. If was the first visit for the 4 others and they all said it was very special; one who lived 4 blocks away, said it was going on her list of places to dine regularly. The place is fairly small so reservations are encouraged. You'll love the ambience complete with wood burning bread oven."

  • "Bettola is down the block from my apartment making it very convenient. It is also good, basic Italian food that offered options for the adults and 2 children."

  • "This was perfect for our needs. The food was very good, ample portions. Service was attentive, but not pushy. They let us sit and talk for a very long time. A cute little neighborhood place to catch up with a friend, or friends."

  • "We wanted to find a spot close to our hotel for an Italian dinner at an affordable price. Their prices were less expensive than neighboring Italian spots & we thought the food was excellent. Great wine (by the glass). My boyfriend had a shrimp pasta he really enjoyed and I had the veal which was excellent. We also enjoyed a yummy apple / pear desert too! Dinner for two (salad and dessert included), with drinks for $75, can't beat it! Service was excellent, quick & friendly. Would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to try an authentic Italian spot at a good price."

  • "Like being in the Village (brick wall ambiance, candles) on the Upper West Side. Delicious homemade pasta, fresh fish. We also tried the pizza, which was very thin crust so it made a fine appetizer for 3 to share. Hot sausage on it was terrific and plentiful.Lasagna was super (but be warned, it's particularly rich) Service was great, server knew her wines by the glass and steered us in the right direction to pair with the food. Really can't wait to go back."

  • "The food was good, but not great. The staff was attentive, but the tables are small so it feels cramped even when no one is there. A reasonably good place for a quick dinner on a work day."

  • "I was able to make a reservation for 8 people the day before. Half of our party ran 25 minutes late, they still sat us and didn't give us any issue with it. Very reasonably priced for the UWS, nice ambiance and a good find on a cold day. (The pizza oven keeps guests nice and toasty) Thanks Bettola!"

  • "Just stumbled upon Bettola while in the neighborhood and couldn't have been more pleased, everything about Bettola felt good - the vibrant atmosphere, everyone enjoying their food, reasonable wine pricing, great service. If you want a very nice meal, reasonably priced and the feel of a place that locals keep coming back to, I highly recommend Bettola."

  • "We'll never be back. Couldn't have felt more unwelcoming. A nice group of 6 for lunch after the marathon to celebrate my husband running, and the energy of this place is "we don't care that you're here". The hostess was the cherry on the cake. Her rude manorism put us all in a mood. It was as though we were bothering her asking for menus. The food was all over cooked, and that combined with bad energy = no need to go back when there are so many other great restaurants on the street."

  • "Really delicious and well priced. We were a big group and they still treated us nicely-which doesnt happen at some places. We had the Warm Farro Salad (yum!), and split a bunch of fish dishes (salmon and the branzino special), and several pastas. REALLY good!"

  • "We were seated promptly and had an absolutely wonderful meal! The menu has a good variety but not overdone. We didn't feel rushed by the staff, but they were attentive to the fact that we needed to make show time. A truly great experience!"

  • "This place has excellent neighborhood-style Italian food (not just red-sauce stuff; I had fish and it was great). Our son's pizza was less good than some of the reviews made us think it would be; the crust seemed perhaps whole wheat and tasted sort of chewy and bland. I'd stick with pasta and other dishes. The tables are very close together, making it both noisy and not especially comfortable if you're sitting on the aisle. And the sever rushed us through very quickly. But I suppose both those things are the price you pay for good Italian food at a price that can't be beaten in the neighborhood."

  • "With a group of out-of-towners & tix for 7:30 theatre a few blocks away, I went to the trusty Open Table just hoping to find a spot that could/would accommodate a herd 9 folks, which included a wine professional, 4 teenagers of non-demanding pallets and 4 more adults who just like to eat! -- Trust me, we would not have been hard to please .... But we were all so blown away by the quality of the food, the service and welcoming atmosphere. We arrived separately during a summer downpour and were seated as we each got there. The restaurant was open to the street with a great breeze! FOOD WAS SO GOOD!! And our wine guy found several selections that were known and liked. A happy, happy group! Great value, too -- @$330 w/ tip~"
