Been to the Betel few times. The menu don't change much. But the food is always came out very tasty full of flavored. Been there last time on my friend's birthday. I chose Betel for a special occasion of my friend, and they really loved this place. We are all Thais I asked a server to tell the chef to cook us in really Thai flavors as they can. Every dishes kicked the tongue and we enjoy our dinner and drinks . And a server gave us very warm welcome and service.

The food was excellent, the choices are limited and the prices seemed to be out of line with the atmosphere. With drinks and tip we were at $180.

This was my second time dining at Betel and I will definitely be back! Everything was amazing both times - service, food and drinks. We had friends in town and felt confident that Betel would deliver - and it did. We all had the tasting menu, which is not only a phenomenal deal, but every dish (there were 10) was amazing. The service was great during both of my experiences; very attentive and helpful, but not overly so. The ambience is also good and makes for a great dining experience. I highly recommend Betel and have a feeling it will become a regular, especially as a place to impress out of town guests.

Went here for restaurant week with my father. The ambiance is trendy and the food was interesting. The music was a bit loud/clubby. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful. Food was just 'ok', but it could have been the restaurant week menu.

We tried the restaurant week a la carte menu at Betel. It was the perfect way to sample a lot of the usual menu and all dishes were super tasty. The staff were very charming and helpful, we had a really nice dining experience and would certainly go back!

The bar and bar food were nice, but Unfortunately we were there for dinner. It is dark, the table was sticky, there were lots of rules regarding what could and could not be ordered (all diners in our party would have to subscribe to the restauraunt week menu) , and the service was passable - we got food but when clearing the waitress spilled all over the seat and a file. The entree food was expensive and NOT GREAT, and I would not go back. We had the misfortune of being seated below the speaker (dj only lowered the volume for a moment) so could not enjoy each others company.

I went to Betel a couple of years ago with my friend and loved the food/atmosphere and decided to bring my boyfriend a couple night ago. Something has definitely changed regarding the food. All the dishes were overpowered in spices or lacked flavor altogether. The Curry Swordfish would have been a great dish if it wasn't covered in so much sauce that I couldn't find the fish. The salt and pepper cuttle fish was very bland. The only dish we did enjoy was the small plate of barbeque octopus. It also didn't help we were digging around our plates in the dark - hardly any lighting so you couldn't see what you were eating. I won't be back.

We have been to this retaurant quite a few times since being introduced to it about 2 yrs ago. However, the last two visits have been disappointing. The most recent, on Saturday night, we took friends visting from Sydney, and we all felt we had landed in a nightclub. They had a dj who truly does not understand that we are dining at Betel to both enjoy the great food and converse with one another. Suggestion, make the music more ambient, lower the volume and let us enjoy the restaurant.

The first disappointment were the drinks. They were served in the tiniest glasses and my cosmo tasted like I was drinking cherry soda. Way too sweet. We did enjoy the barbecued octopus. I wish that was an entree. The pork and prawn dumplings were good, but they should not have served that sauce with it. Too much fish sauce in it. I am not a fan of fish sauce. The chicken with curry sauce was very bland. We did enjoy the whole crispy fish, but not enough for two people.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the terrific food, both prepared and served very well. The wait staff was very good in explaining the various dishes and 'how to eat them'. Great place for sharing as everything is served 'family style'. I've eaten lots of Thai in NYC but this was special and a cut above the usual. Will definitely return. We were doing Theatre in the area and they gave us a 15% discount upon presentation of our tickets, hadn't expected it, but nice touch.

Great food - one of the most creative expressions of Asian flavors I've had in New York. I would rate the food higher than many fancier Asian Fusion spots around the city. Service was great and server was very knowledgeable about the menu. All her recommendations were top-notch including the dessert.

My friend and I chose Betel when looking for lighter fare in the Village. When I saw they had my favorite dessert on the menu - sticky rice with mango - Betel rose to the top of the list. A very professional staff and a warm environment greeted us. Our server as warm and knowledgeable, and she paced the meal very well, despite the fact that she had several other tables, including a party of 10 that she was also serving solo. There is an extensive, interesting cocktail menu and a willingness to create concoctions upon request. The food is equally creative. We stuck to the small plates to allow us to try more; everything is served for sharing. The 3 we chose were all tasty and wonderful, with yummy combinations of sweet and savory.

I love Betel The food is unique and original and always delicious. This last time we chose the tasting menu and wine pairing option. The food was amazing again but it was way too much and unfortunately the wine pairing did not work (the waitress kept bringing the wine too late). It was also way too much wine. I hope they come up with a slightly shorter tasting menu(and cheaper) and train the staff to pair the dishes and wine at the right time

The chef's tasting recommended by the waitress was amazing. We ordered a few additional items from the entrees menu as well - even though the tasting menu was enough food for six - and the thai pork shoulder and twice-cooked duck were unreal! I do not eat much seafood, but I really enjoyed sampling the oysters, shrimp, and striped bass.

Sadly food was not so great as every dish was loaded with sugar and over sweet . It had potential except for excessive sugar in every dish Duck salad had tiny tiny pieces of crispy duck wing skin. No duck meat and so sweet we couldn't eat. Roasted duck had an excessively sweet sauce so after it cooled down it tasted like candied duck. Papaya salad was sweet and unbalanced needed fish sauce more spice and less sugar. Cuttlefish was excellent with a squeeze of lime but don't use the side of sweet sugar sauce. We also ordered the sea bass entree that came with 3 tiny pieces of fish with soggy skin gross as well as another excessively sugared sweet sauce that even with steamed rice we couldn't eat.no dessert because dinner was a sugar

I came here with a voucher for a vegetarian meal for two. I don't know how many vegetarian options are on the normal menu, but I have to say that my friend and I found this meal exquisite. They started with a great, light variation on Paan, then moved into delicious corn fritters wrapped in shiso leaves w/dipping sauce, braised toufu and mushroom main course, yellow curry with eggplant main course. A perfectly-balanced banana/toasted-coconut fritter with vanilla ice cream and a light sweet syrup for dessert, and a bottle of red wine were also part of our meal. All the flavors were satisfyingly complex and perfectly balanced, though toufu was a bit salty. We absolutely loved it. Recommended!
