A word from Bestia
Ori and Genevieve's signature style shines on the Bestia menu with a plethora of seasonal dishes that have been sourced from local purveyors. The emphasis on nose to tail cooking can be found in dishes such as Coppa di Testa comprised of housemade headcheese and Cassoela Milanese with braised pork, veal ribs and pork sausage. From housemade mustard for the charcuterie to skillfully crafted squid ink bottarga, the menu reflects the attention to detail that the duo pays to only seasonal ingredients. The emphasis on sustainable ingredients and products can be found not only on the menu, but in the design of the space as well. Working with designer Greg Bleier, Genevieve sourced the contemporary elements from local artisans, who rely on reclaimed materials to create the unique elements found within Bestia, from the light fixtures to the stools and tables.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Went for our anniversary. Great food, interesting drinks, and great service. Pizza was amazing, Farro salad was tasty, and the bone marrow was fabulous. A couple of other dishes were very good but not incredible hence the 4 stars."

  • "Terrific food. A wide variety of things were absolutely outstanding, farro salad, pasta and pork chop. Will definitely be back."

  • "We had an early reservation and waited a few minutes outside for the doors to open. The staff was inside having a pep rally of sorts. Entertaining to listen too. Waiter was patient and knowledgeable. Made recommendations when asked. Cocktails and food were all amazing! But the best part was the timing of the food deliveries. Perfect, not rushed. We enjoyed our time at Bestia and will return."

  • "Food and service were very good but I will not go back unless I become totally deaf, which could happen if I ate there too often. This level of noise is all too common now, restaurants seem to think it is necessary to attract younger diners who have nothing to say to their friends and so don't care that they can't hear each other."

  • "Front desc is not polite, we were party of 3 and my friend arrived 10 min late, very arrogante stuff. Ambiance was cool, but not new, Edisson and Bäco Mercat style. Music is too loud You never say to the paying customer " it's your problem if your friend is going to be late, besides we have no table free right now anyways" that was just 5 min before the reservation time and my friend was going to be 10 min late, and they did not wanted to sit us. It's definitly a no go Location in a bad area, no parkings and only valley parking Not sure if I would go for second time. There are many great places in DTLA"

  • "Took my family to Bestia the other night for dinner. I knew the place was highly rated but didn't expect it to be so well run and welcoming. The wait staff made us feel at home and gave us the best direction to make sure we all found the best options. The food was perfectly crafted and the wine list was a perfect complement to the high quality food options. If you are in LA, make this restaurant part of your plans. It's new, vibrant and delicious."

  • "We loved the food at Bestia. Great bar program and wine list. The only issue is the noise level - it's really high but the space is beautiful."

  • "You pretty much can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I have been a half dozen times already and each time I feel like I have a new favorite dish. I wish I could eat here every day, and the staff is all very knowledgeable, friendly and fantastic!! The chef and his pastry chef wife are complete geniuses....do yourself a favor and make a reservation as soon as you can!!!"

  • "Amazing food...great people watching...very energetic"

  • "I'm still having dreams about this food. I travel all over the world to eat and this is by far the best food I've had in Los Angeles. Everything we ordered, and we ordered a lot, was excellent! Will be returning soon."

  • "Great expeince. Food was amazing prepared, presented and most importantly tasted great. Very unique use of flavors and techniques to create memorable dishes such as a "simple" creamy polenta, squid and octopus starter garnished with dandelion greens that added to the overall flavor and texture of the food, to the steak( bone in) for two. Service was excellent.everyone was attentive without being obtrusive. The space is well designed with one exception. Hard to have a conversation. You had to scream to b be heard. This has, unfortunately, become the standard ambience everywhere. Although it does detract from the overall experience it does not overwhelm the excellent quality of the food or the service."

  • "The restaurant is in a trendy (and appears to be growing) part near downtown LA. Driving through the area was interesting because it's definitely not where we would have thought a restaurant existed. The ambience is very laid back and has a rugged/rusted and trendy look inside and outside (which matches the area in general). There is both inside and outside seating. The food is excellent. We ordered a salad, about 3 appetizers, and 2 dishes. All were definitely way above the average mark compared to other Italian restaurants we've been to. There's definitely a lot of thought put into the ingredients and preparation for everything on the menu. If you want an authentic Italian food experience with a trendy atmosphere, this is your place."

  • "3rd time here and still love this place. The food is outstanding. Pastas are fabulous, each with their own distinct flavor profile. The appetizers all fantastic. Finally got to try the Mussels and they were so yummy...fresh and spicy! Everything we had was great. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu."

  • "The food was fantastic. The pizza, the octopus salad - everything we ate was delicious. The service, not so much. Please don't assume that just because we haven't eaten in this particular restaurant that we are unfamiliar with dining in a restaurant. I know that restaurants think they are doing customers some sort of service when they explain "how a menu works" but in reality, it's condescending and puts us off the whole experience. If we have a question, we'll ask it! We understand that your restaurant is very "hot." But please, don't treat customers like children, especially those of us over 30."

  • "All the food is amazing, and the vibe is both hip and welcoming. The staff is knowledgeable and unpretentious, and everyone seems to really like being there. A great place to share a meal with friends."

  • "Incredible food, but need a table outside to hear anything. Would definitely go back!"

  • "Fun place and good food. Attitude from the hostess. They decline any substitutions or modifications. I liked the place but most of the people in my party would not return due to the attitude and no modifications rule. It is a hot place now, but I remember lots of LA hot places that are no longer around that had attitude,"

  • "There is a reason it takes weeks to get a decent reservation here. It is really cool and the food is excellent."
    Dined on 3/26/2014
  • "The 4 of us thought the food was average. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out as being something we needing to have again. For creative Italian food in Downtown LA the Factory Kitchen and Maccheroni Republic are a much better bet."

  • "The food and wine was so good I still can't stop talking about Bestia. Chicken gizzard dish my fav. Loved the atmosphere and the vibrant crowd. It was somewhat hard to hear my date at times. Went on a Tuesday and arrived before six no parking had to wait till the valets started working somewhat inconvenient."

  • "This is my second time coming back after a year when they first opened. Although my first time was less than stellar, this time Bestia lived up to the hype. When I walked into the restaurant and interaction with the hostesses, to our waiter and bus/water boys was TOP NOTCH. No stone left unturned. The food was excellent as well--especially the farro salad. Our waiter Jon was fantastic and really made the experience great. 2 cocktails, 1 beer, a pizza, a salad and the lamb ragu pasta was under $120 with tax and tip and was enough food for 2 persons having a late night dinner."

  • "My experience at BESTIA was the best. The food was exceptional, the mixed drinks were strong and tasted great, and the service was top notch. I will come back and take more people as well."

  • "The food is always so delicious! I love the Roasted Marlow Bone! Everything is good I haven't had a bad dish yet! A hidden gem in DTLA"

  • "After all the hype I've heard about this restaurant, I finally was able to reserve a table 2 months prior. Walking in, I was impressed by the energy and decor, felt like I was in a hip new restaurant in the meat packing. Like many restaurants in LA, I wish the food would live up to the hype and ambiance. It was very rich, tasty, but nothing outstanding and definitely not worth the wait."

  • "We waited 2 months for our Friday night reservation but it was well worth the wait. Favourite plates of the night were chicken liver crostini, calamari arugula salad. Everything was good, but those two dishes are repeaters! We will be back!"

  • "Great vibe, amazing food and friendly servers! Would go back again anytime!"
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "I hope this place will learn how to treat its customers when it comes to make reservation. And not just have the customer listen to their whole conversation when the customer was being told to put on hold. After their little conversation? Yes, they just hang up on you like NOTHING. I don't know about you, but I will never call this place again to wait 20 mins trying to make a reservation but end up getting hung up on. Her name? It's Maya."
    Dined on 9/14/2013
  • "The only complaint I have is that the place is ridiculously noisy. It's enough with the bad acoustics, but then they play very loud music on top of it. Don't get it. And this was at first seating! The ambience, otherwise, along with the food and service was very good. Delicious pasta, pizza and the panacotta was amazing."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "Food choices were too restrictive as our server pointed out " no menu changes" I don't eat Dairy so choices were extremely limited, e asked them not to add cheese to pasta and was told that no changes allowed! we had a glass of wine and left."

  • "There are a lot of great restaurants in LA. Bestia is one of them. What might set them apart, however, is their very interesting choice and combination of ingredients. Definitely not just another great _______ restaurant, but rather quite unique, with a menu that encourages you, even dares you, to expand your horizons. The meal was delicious, the service was helpful, cordial and attentive, making for a truly excellent dining experience. I usually don't think much about desert but Bestia's deserts were especially good. A great, surprising end to a great meal."

  • "MY HUSBAND AND I WENT TO BESTIA WITH HIGH HOPES AFTER READING THE RESTAURANT REVIEW IN LA MAGAZINE. LET ME TELL YOU IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. WE ENDULGED IN THE MEAT PATTER, 3 PASTA'S, OLIVE'S, BEEF CARPACCIO AND WE HAD DONUTS AND COFFEE ICE CREAM FOR DESSERT. NEEDLESS TO SAY, WE WERE STUFFED TO THE BRIM, BUT MORE THAN SATISFIED WITH THE MEAL. BESTIA IS A HIGH ENERGY RESTAURANT WITH AN ECLECTIC MENU. THEY TAKE PRIDE IN MAKING MAKING ITEMS FROM SCRATCH INCLUDING HOMDA MADE SODA'S, CURRED OLIVES & RUSTIC BREAD. THE SERVER WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT NOT ONLY THE RESTAURANT ITSELF (GIVING US A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT THE OWNERS AND HOW IT BEGAN), BUT SHE KNEW THE MENU INSIDE AND OUT. IT IS A DEFINATE MUST SEE ON ANY FOODIES TO DO LIST. ENJOY!"

  • "Second time at Bestia with my sister a while back for our Thanksgiving dinner. I love this place! The food is so viberent. While the location looks a bit suspect from the outside, once you walk in you know you are someplace special."

  • "A sweet spot in the arts district. Distinct foods. All delicious. Dining fit for foodies and an ambiance fit for lovers. It's great"
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "The food and drinks were absolutely amazing - variety of flavors, perfectly balanced. Each dish was perfection. We had the farro salad, little gems, the duck egg, octopus carpaccio, agnolotti and the nettle pappardelle. I could eat there every day twice a day. Room is very loud - not intimate in the least, and you will smell like the kitchen when you leave . But the food forgives all of this."

  • "amazing food where you don't walk out feeling like you were ripped off like these WeHo restaurants that serve you slivers of meat and call it an entrée. loved the vibe and the staff. no pretentious puppies. I am still thinking about the bone marrow. i literally cannot wait to go back."

  • "Bestia was hiding behind the old storage buildings and rows of downtown where you are least suspecting of the fine dining experience Yet just around the corners of the dull buildings the Gem of the excellent. Italian cuisine exists I fell in love with the first bite of the grilled octopus salad Such a soft texture and full of the vibrant flavors I will certainly go back to try out everything else on the menu!! It was rather on the noisy feel but not to the point of unable to converse in friendly manner Excellent place to hang out after a day of working for a nice glass of wine and for savory dish Outside seating was cozy and even little romantic !"

  • "Hidden in the arts district of DTLA, this hot spot is the new go-to for foodies in LA. It's got bone marrow with gnoccetti to DIE for, amazing octopus carpaccio, and ever inventive meaty go-to you could ever dream of. Book well in advance as it fills up quickly."

  • "I have been to Bestia two times and both times it was outstanding. The food, service and dinning experience was top notch. I will go back again."

  • "I find myself craving for Bestia even though I am not local to the area. I've been there twice already and the food, service, environment, and drinks were always solid! I look forward to my next visit because there are still many things on the menu that I would like to try, especially the Spaghetti Rustichella (squid ink & uni pasta). Everything that comes out of their kitchen is fresh and handmade, hands down one of my favorite spots in LA!"
