Diner Reviews
  • "I had been to several John Besh restaurant, this is my least favorite"

  • "Farm to table, ranch to table dining at it's best. I have eaten at other John Besh restaurants and they all live up to the highest standards of fine dining. We were two couples. We shared the fried oysters and Bar-B-Que shrimp for appetizers. They were both excellent. The fried ousters were the real star. Perfection. We had fried shrimp, red snapper, rib eye and filet. All were excellent. My filet was tender enough to cut with a fork. I had crème brulee with a shortbread cookie and a berry compote. A perfect, lite, desert to complement the meal. Our cocktails were perfectly made and the wine list was extensive enough without being overwhelming. If you are in NOLA John Besh Steakhouse is highly recommended."

  • "Steaks were good, service was so-so. With all the amazing restaurants around, I'd try somewhere different if I had it to do over."

  • "It was our 30th wedding anniversary and they had that info in the reservation! Not so much as a Congrats! Drop Dead! Let us offer you a dessert on the house? Nope nada, nothing! Our waiter was not at all friendly either! Very disappointed and won't recommend it to anyone!"

  • "Excellent food, as expected. Not too crowded and the service was friendly and efficient. The ribeye steak was perfectly cooked. His oyster appetizer was wonderful. Definitely will return when in New Orleans."

  • "I have been to this steakhouse several times and the food is good but overpriced in my opinion. This time the server was not pleased with our older guest and it showed. That is a shame because she was treating us and probably won't want to come back too soon. One of us did get the special for $40 for three courses which was much smaller portions than the regular ones on the menu, which explains why it had a lower price. Overall, I am glad there is fine dining at Harrah's casino and I think if you are there and want a nice meal this is a very convenient location if price is not a factor."

  • "I ordered my filet Med. well and my husband ordered his Medium, however my steak came out Well done and his was Med. well. We sent his steak back twice before they got it right. My husband said it was cooked perfectly by the time they got it right, so beside that, everybody else enjoyed their meal."

  • "Being from New Orleans we have eatin here many times before, and the food has always been great. Well, not this time. Worst filet I've ever had for that price. Over cooked, chalky, and utterly lacking flavor. My wife had one of the specials, which was "speckled trout" and it was really bad as well. The fish was not fresh, and also lacked flavor. Even the dessert was pathetic...like it came out of a Sarah Lee box. Seems like they have thrown in the towel trying to compete with Ruths Chris across the street."

  • "I took my father to Besh for father's day. He's a 71 year old who is very hard to please. I knew it would be a gamble to take him out for dinner but to my surprise he was happy with the entire experience. He went on about the quality of the steak and how perfect it was prepared. Besh Steakhouse is a hidden gem and more people should take time out to see what it has to offer!"

  • "Best steak has become one of my top five place's to eat ."

  • "The food and service is outstanding. Ambience is comfortable considering in a casino. Love to go here to make any night special."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Because Besh is in the Casino, they do not take the Open table Dining Checks, even though we made the reservations through Open table. Also, my filet was tough."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Was not impressed with the atmosphere in this restaurant. I didn't think it would be open to the casino and noisy. Food was decent, but service was not good."

  • "Had been here before and enjoyed the food and ambiance. This time is was great! Had the 10 oz filet which is the best steak they have in my opinion, ordered it medium and it came out beautifully cooked, artfully and graciously served along with wonderful grilled asparagus. I always enjoy the bibb salad with buttermilk blue cheese and candied walnuts - a meal in itself. One of the great things about Besh is that although it is located inside Harrah's casino, it is right by an entry door and you are far enough away as to not be disturbed by clanging slot machines. This is a quiet steak house. Mpst are loud and noisy. Many conversations but not noisy here. I'll go back again and again."

  • "I have looked forward to eating at a John Besh restaurant since I met him at a book signing in Dallas years ago. This year I took my daughters to New Orleans for our girls trip and was excited to eat at Besh Steak. I loved our table. The problem was the service was not up to par with the other restaurants we visited in New Orleans and I'm sure was not up to Chef Besh's standards. Our waiter was slow and preoccupied and there were two men in suits who spent the entire time looking at stuff on their phones and talking to each other. I assume they were some kind of front of house managers but they never spoke to us or helped the waitstaff. I am a big John Besh fan so I will try another of his restaurants but I won't return to Besh Steak."

  • "We had a dinner with friends for a going away. They brought us a nice pate to start the meal--and also an extra! We had a vegetarian with us and they made her a special vegetable risotto for dinner, she loved it and could not eat it all. Her hubby had the fish and it was perfectly cooked. My BF and I had the ribeye and the 10oz filet. They were cooked perfectly and were much bigger than the weight advertised. We would easily go back the next time we were in NOLA."

  • "Spent $100 per person. $60 bottle of wine with a screw top?? I'm no wine expert, but really?!?!?! $79 aged strip....not good. Appetizers and salad were good...not great...just good. Bread pudding was very good....crème brulee...not so much! Waiter would be better suited to wait tables at Applebee's. "

  • "This restaurant is like a well oiled machine! It does not matter if a person is your waiter/waitress or not, because if someone passes your table and notices you may need something, they just simply "pick up the slack" with a smile on their face. This is a tough industry, but this crew never ever shows you that they may be having a bad night. This is one of the most consistent service I have ever had anywhere. they are informative of the menu; if you don't have a reservation, they do everything to accommodate you; they never make you feel like you are middle/low class. everything is cooked to perfection. "

  • "The steak was good. The service was horrible! Coffee took 15 minutes to be delivered and we were not even given steak knives. Luckily the beef was tender enough to cut with the somewhat sharp butter knife."

  • "A very special place to celebrate our ANNIVERSARY! Highly recommend for the shrimp and grits. My wife said the filet was so good that she cut it with her fork! Ask for Nelson as your server. He is awesome and made our night very special with an anniversary dessert to die for."
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "my wife's filet was burnt on the outside very crunchy"
    Dined on 5/18/2014
  • "This is the fourth time I've been to this restaurant (having had nice meals prior) and was disappointed with our meal. The ideas are definitely there, but the end result did not live up to expectations. When you pay upwards of $40 for entrees ($75 for steaks), I think you should expect a bit more..."

  • "Thought that this would not be another high-end steak house, but was wrong. While the food was good, the service outstanding, it was, in the end, just another steak house. I thought that there would be more "personality", more uniqueness in the food. Only the bone-marrow was a surprise. I probably would eat here again if I ever visit Harrah's, as the buffet and other venues were only "good"."

  • "This restaurant is located in Harrah's Casino in New Orleans. Food and service was very very good. Since this is part of the casino, there is a certain amount of noise and cigarette smoke from the casino entering the restaurant. This was our third time in this restaurant and we always enjoy it."

  • "Service was great waiter recommend not ordering some items. Bread was awesome. Pork chop was good all food was over salted!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner. As always the service was prompt and attentive and the food was very good. My wife had the oyster appetizer and a small plate and I had a 14 oz. steak and we were both very satisfied with the quality and quantity. We shared a bread pudding dessert and found it delightful. Definitely a wonderful place to have dinner and we walked a few blocks to the Saenger theater to enjoy a wonderful concert."

  • "Everything was delicious.. Thought the steaks were very pricey.. We were surprised about how much was being charged."

  • "We have always eaten here and have enjoyed it. Last time not up to par. This trip ended our visits to Besh Steakhouse. Wine not chilled, service slow. Too many great choices in New Orleans to ever have a bad meal. "
    Dined on 4/24/2014
  • "I had a filet and it was cooked PERFECTLY...it was so good, the best I have had in ages."
    Dined on 4/22/2014
  • "The wine list was great, and the staff was very knowledgeable. The food was very savory and elegant. We both had ribeye steaks and the taste was beyond reproach, however we both had veins and silver skin...unexpected of a high-end eatery such as Besh's Steakhouse. I will certainly visit again, but I will be sure to ask a better cut and trimmed steak."

  • "Told on arrival there was an issue b/c I didn't note reservation w/wine dinner--confusing since I never noted previous reservations. Hostesses said we couldn't sit in dining room, but could sit in lounge; then consulted mgr. Mgr stated AGAIN that reservation should be noted, but she would try to accommodate us. Asked if we could sit in lounge as hostesses offered and was told no. Eventually we were seated in dining room, where there were numerous empty tables. Not the way to start what is always a lovely evening. Bad feelings were completely avoidable. Had manager not made it abundantly clear I'd created my own problem and then overstated how difficult it might be to accommodate us, I'd be praising them for how they handled the situation."

  • "Hostess Judy did it all! She introduced our group to a very friendly and professional bartender Leonard and food server Darren and seated our group at perfectly arranged tables and location. Food was pricey but its Besh and good."
    Dined on 4/15/2014
  • "The Bibb salad was fresh and tasty. The snapper entrée was a good presentation. The entree was a good mix of vegetables and sauce with the fish itself. Service was quick and pleasant."
    Dined on 4/8/2014
  • "It was not great but at least they cooked a steak well done without an attitude and without burning it. The salads did not have a sufficient amount of dressing to even wet all of the lettuce, needless to say provide sufficient flavor. We drank soft drinks and apparently were charged for refills - the last of which I did not request! Overall, the Besh seems to continuously go down while the prices go up. I would not discourage anyone from eating there but I also do not go around bragging or recommending it as a target location to dine."

  • "My husband and I were celebrating an anniversary. We indicated this at our time of reservation and asked for a quiet table. When we got there, they put us right in the middle of the room at a shared 1/2 table, 1/2 booth which was disappointing and certainly not quiet or private. The service was akin to something you would expect at Applebee's. It was difficult to get the waitress' attention and we spent a lot of time waiting for drinks, more bread, etc. The food was decent but not worth the price; both of our steaks came out overdone. Next time we're in NOLA, we'll avoid this restaurant."
