I like Berrett's a lot especially for lunch. We sat in the room with the fireplace and it was very cozy on a chilly day. The service is mostly conducted by college students who are friendly and warm. Four of us got together for lunch on two occasions and we had a very enjoyable lunch both times. They had a vegetarian entree on the menu each time which I always like to see. The food is quite good and varied from good burgers to fresh seafood. The atmosphere is relaxed and there is no rush to leave after eating. The location of the restaurant in Colonial Williamsburg is ideal. It is very convenient to have lunch and then take a walk through history on the streets of Colonial Williamsburg. There is also the added benefit of being able to do some shopping at William Sonoma or Talbots which are next door. Many other shops are right next door too and within easy walking distance to parking.

I can remember going to Berret's over 14 years ago and it being memorable and delicious. This weekend did not disappoint us. I had the short ribs which is a newer item. The sauce was the most AMAZING sauce for beef I have tasted in my entire life. The caesar salad was fresh and delicious. We only wish we were offered fresh ground pepper to go on top. My husband got the filet mignon which he also enjoyed. When in Williamsburg again, we will return.

Upon our 5:30pm arrival with more than half the tables empty the hostess attempted to seat us at the smallest table for 2 in Barret’s. When asked to be seated in the booth opposite the little table we were told that there would be a one hour wait! Oh really was my reply as we prepared to leave. We were however offered a table in another room. After dinner my wife explicitly asked for “decaffeinated” espresso and of course what we did not see was served at the table. THE BAD NEWS IS THAT MY WIFE WAS UP UNTILL 4AM as a result of not receiving what she ordered. At the end of the day as a Williamsburg resident I again as in the past was not overly impressed with this facility. Great location for visitors and the outdoor area in the summer is a good experience. Our server was very good until the espresso arrived.

This was our second time dinning at this restaurant, the first time (about a year ago) we sat in the main dining room by the fireplace and the crab cakes were excellent, very romantic dinner. For this reason we returned A year later. At first we were seated behind a large party cramped into a corner. We asked to be moved and were seated in an adjacent room to the main dining room, there was a very cold draft in the room and my wife had to wear a jacket during dinner. We ordered steak, salmon and crab cakes between the two of us and were disappointed for how bland the food was this time. After having to ask to be moved again this time, it seems you must be specific where you would like to sit, because that seems to make a difference in your experience. For the price, we expected great food and only received good.

We have dined at Berret's at least a hundred times and we love it just as much as we did years ago. The seafood is prepared with creativity, showcasing the best of both shellfish and fish. The service is attentive but not overbearing, and each dish is prepared with care, appealing to the eye as well as the taste buds. Additional high quality seafood establishments have opened in the area during the past few years but Berret's remains our favorite.

When I used open table to reserve a table on a Sunday, there were no times available from 6 to 645pm, so we booked earlier, but in actuality, the restaurant was somewhat empty from 6 to 7 pm, when we departed. What's up with that?

Ordered the filet mignon with my choice seafood (scallops). I have never seen a fillet like this: was about 1" thick and the size of a deck of cards. Ordered it medium and was a more like well done. The worst thing was that I could hardly cut it with a steak knife. Tough to chew and not much flavor. Very good scallops, though. Disappointing meal. Will not be back

We told the restaurant when we made our reservation that we were celebrating our first wedding anniversary. From the moment we got there, they treated us like royalty. They showed us around the restaurant and asked us where we would like to be seated, even offering us a semi-private room, which we gladly took. Even though they were extremely busy, they took so much time with us to make sure everything was perfect, and it was. Our waitress was amazing, the food was first class and presented beautifully. She took the time to snap some photos for us and at the end of the evening she gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne and wished us a happy anniversary. Thank you Berret's for helping to make our anniversary a memorable experience.

$1 oysters (steamed or raw) in the patio. Fresh, cleanly shucked, briny. Lively and friendly. The restaurant is for family and couples. We requested an area: no kids and no noise. There is a small room off the entrance. We had she-crab soup, creamy, crab-filled and laced with sherry. Fried green tomatoes with balsamic glaze. Superb. "Seafood Trio" perfectly seared Ahi with 2 other fish, collard and mashed sweet potatoes. Overly clovey, but not inedible. Seafood Baked in Parchment with quinoa. Tilapia, scallops, and another fish in white sauce with sweet red pepper. Prosecco completed the courses. No room for dessert. Free parking (after 6), but it fills quickly: small and shared by several stores off Merchant's Square.

The staff are friendly and welcoming. The menu is not huge but the specials change daily and the "standards" are delicious. The atmosphere is casual. The food is moderately priced, but I bet you won't leave hungry. Don't miss the crab cakes!

Great food and presentation. Portion size appropriate and beer choices excellent. The Problem is the atmosphere (tired and dirty), the layout (hodgepodge), and the chairs were uncomfortable and right out of your local public library. I would not return with much better choices within a short walk.

We ate outside - there was quite a bit of street noise - as we were seated at the corner. The food was good but it took forever to get it. The food was warm for two of us, like it had been sitting out for a while, either waiting for the food for the others in our party to be done - or waiting for our waitress to pick it up. The she crab soup was worth the price of admission - some of the best I've ever had...
