  • "Of all the places in CT, Bernard's has to be one of the best classic French restaurants around. Located in Ridgefield, and home to wonderful classical architecture and terrific consignment stores. Bernard's is a wonderful restaurant where, mostly I find myself driving to for lunch, and I live quite a few miles away, because the food is always consistently good. It's a place that hasn't fallen into the "trendy" trap of dining - just providing the customer with great, classic French cuisine. Five stars!"

  • "Three of my friends and I went to Bernards on Sunday for Bruch for a friends 55th birthday. Based on all of the rave reviews we were all very excited despite the 45 min ride to the restaurant. Unfortuantely we didn't have the best experience. The ambiance was there, it was quite so you could talk , the bread was fabulous and the service was outstanding. However, the quality of the food overall was seriously lacking- not to mention BRUNCH for 4 was $300!! The appetizers were very small, 2 of the main courses (veal shank) had a outrageous amount of fat and 3 of the 4 were underwhelmed in dessert. Overall don't think we'll be going back anytime soon"

  • "I could spend an entire week reading the wine list, it is so extensive. Luckily they have experts to help you pick the exact wine you are looking for! Our suggestion was perfect and enhanced our dinner. Everything on the menu is to die for. I have thoroughly enjoyed every meal I have eaten at Bernard's! It is just the best!"

  • "Bernard's is a very nice place. Great food, nice ambiance. But they seemed very unprepared for Valentine's Day. Upon being seated, we waited 15 minutes to get menu/drink order. Menu was price fixe, understandable on such a night. Wine list is truly great. Breadth and value present. Venison and Sea Bass were delicious, but my wife was given no steak knife, so she had to hack away at the venison. After dinner coffee arrived after we had settled our check, approximately 40 minutes after we had ordered it. Coat retreival took 15 minutes. Patron in front of my wife took his tip back. Clearly a special place, but needs to focus on better planning for such occasions. We will give it another try on a non-holiday."

  • "Bernards is usually a delight; New Year's eve may have thrown the kitchen a curve, as only two dishes out of the seven or so we were served measured up to the quality we've come to expect here. Bay scallops in a beurre blanc were excellent -as was the bass we were able to substitute for the meat and fowl options. Service was gracious and (relatively) speedy, given the packed dining room. The star here remains the superb Wine List, which lists terrific values on older vintage Burgundies and Bordeaux. This list rivals that of any other place that cares about wine."

After reading the reviews decided to book a reservation for Christmas dinner. We were not disappointed. The food is fabulous !!!! Wait staff very attentive. We had the best dinner every.   • "A party of 3 for Xmas Eve: The food was excellent. Oysters were absolutely fresh, briny and substantial. The pate app, was excellent and the presentation was beautiful. The entrees of Beef Wellington, tenderloin of venison and sea bass were each flawlessly executed. The sauce on the venison complimented the entree without overpowering the flavor of the meat. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Plates and glassware were cleared quickly and subtly. We have been to Bernard's perhaps 10 times over the years and it remains one of our 2 favorites in the state. While not an inexpensive restaurant, the quality and superiority of what they serve compared tot eh cost makes this an untouchable value."

  • "Festively decorated for the holidays, quaint, warm and cozy atmosphere - Service was novice, but friendly.....bus boy kept hitting my chair.... Food was mediocre.....we had the T-Bone steak for two at $48 P/P...much too pricy for what is was.....nothing special. Extensive wine list......affordable prices included. We tried the restaurant because we attended a Christmas Big Band concert by John Tesh at the Ridgefield Playhouse and it was close by. We will try something different next time."

  • "My family chose Bernard's to celebrate a birthday (we had not eaten there before), and it was amazing. Our waiter, Edwin, was extremely helpful in suggesting wines (it is a HUGE wine list) and menu items. When the pianist (Johnny Morris) sat down to play light jazz, we were delighted with his music. The pacing of the meal was spot-on and very gracious, and the food was absolutely delicious. What a perfect evening - we will be back."

Retreating to the cozy wine bar upstairs after dinner was a nice treat, too. Live jazz, and no pressure to buy anything. Staff was gracious about us just taking up space and finishing our conversation before departing."

  • "I took a friend for her birthday to Bernard's, clearly a great spot for that as four other tables were also celebrating birthdays! The lunch menu is very creative and varied - something for everyone and, while somewhat expensive, worth every penny. The crab salad was extraordinary, lightly seasoned, very generous in amount and a lovely presentation. The duck confit salad was equally wonderful. Desserts were gorgeous and delicious. Service was very friendly and attentive but a touch erratic. It seemed to be an aberation that day and certainly was nothing to complain about. The dining room is charming, cozy and quiet enough to easily carry on a conversation, something increasingly hard to find these days! I would highly recommend Bernard's"
