  • "My husband and I dined on Saturday evening in the formal dining room. High marks for service and atmosphere. The lobster bisque was great. Wished the menu had included some of the food shown on the website like tuna appetizers, etc. We would have like to see some type of potato or rice side dish. Our main meal lacked any type of spice, very bland. Salt and pepper were not on the table. Sometimes "fresh herbs" are not enough to flavor a meal."

We thoroughly enjoyed everything we ate. The gazpacho was devine with many levels of flavors and perfect for this time of the year. Lobster roll as well as crab cake and accompanying red cabbage slaw excellent. Service was very good while being unobtrusive. Hoping to return soon."

The service is very good - the only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is the dessert took a very long time and my elderly father in law became very impatient. The food is always good, but very pricey. Two of the three entrees were $48. They have an excellent selection of wine by the glass - but, again, very pricey. My delicious Ramey Vineyards chardonnay was $17.50 for six (6) ounces. It's definitely a special occasion place. They have outdoor tables which looked very enticing but unfortunately my elderly father in law does not like to sit outside. Overall a very nice dining experience."

I had the Tuna Sashimi and the Scottish Ocean Trout and my husband had the Lobster Bisque and the Berkshire Pork Chop. For dessert, we shared the rhubarb sorbet and the special rhubarb and berry cobbler. Portions are substantial as well. This is a special occasion venue and we enjoyed it very much."

  • "The service was prompt and personal; we had several servers after our order was taken; all were efficient, unobtrusive, and timely. The menu is traditional with touches of special sauces and unusual vegetables. We ordered chicken livers in pasta and poached lobster served with flourless potatoes. The sorbet we ordered for dessert is made in their kitchen and we could order any three flavor combinations. The portions are not large, but they are sized perfectly to allow room for side dishes or for dessert. Everything was fresh, well prepared, and served hot. The complimentary biscuit to start the meal and the small sweet at the conclusion were nice touches. We definitely plan to visit them again."

  • "Judging by what I selected from the Spring menu, the cauliflower soup and the liver and bacon, I'd certainly call this 4 1/2 star quality. I thought the ambience outstanding and the service both friendly and attentive. I dined on a less than crowed Friday, so perhaps I benefited from the attention to detail; nonetheless, I'll return. The wine list offers some great selections in two sized glasses. I thought the prices were reasonable from my expireances in some of the very best restaurants in North and Central Jersey. While they offer a great Zinfandel (my usual choice with liver and bacon), I opted for a Malbec that I thought an excellent match. Overall, this was an outstanding experince. I shall try it again this summer."

  • " It's always a wonderful experience dining here. We love sitting in the bar area for dinner. However, the piano player was so loud that it was very distracting. He was playing a harsh,staccato beat the entire time.No soft, mellow music at all. We ordered bottled water which came in a bottle that was not sealed. We questioned this and was told about the filtration system. That was fine; however, when we finished 1 bottle the waiter automatically started pouring another bottle without asking us if we wanted it. I don't even know how much each bottle costs but normally they would ask before pouring; especially near the end of the meal when we might not finish it. "

  • "Had Easter Dinner here. Had Thanksgiving Dinnern 2013 and was disappointed by the service, noise and overall ambiance. Decided to try again on a hoiday and all of my expectations were exceeded. Liked the chicken liver agnolotti (the snap peas and pea puree were special spring additions) and the lamb loin was delicious (a welcome change from the familiar rack of lamb). Service was excellent, attentive and well-paced. I think the best tables are in the Great Room. Made reservations early, requested a table in the Great Room, and that solved the noise and ambiance problems. At Easter the room was filled with families enjoying good food and good company. Glad I tried Bernards Inn again on a holiday......and will eagerly return."
