Bernardin's Restaurant at the Zevely HouseWonderful fine dining choiceWe had a delightful dinner, with apps, entrees, dessert, and wine - all well prepared and presented. It was a pleasantly quiet weeknight, and we had much of the dining room to ourselves. Our food was promptly cooked and served, and the preparations were interesting and distinctive. We had foie gras and scallops appetizers, entrees of Tandori kangaroo and New Zealand venison with lingonberry sauce. Meats were perfectly prepared, tender, flavorful.
Certainly menu choices that are not really available anywhere else, and gave us a wonderful culinary adventure. Our server was attentive, friendly, and helpful with recommendations without being at all intrusive.
A terrific dining experience when looking for a distinctive, excellent meal.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA Winston stapleAlways great food and service! Never disappointed! Its fine dinning, so don't be in a rush and you will have an excellent meal.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMMy New Favorite!Since moving to W-S from Chicago, we had found the restaurants somewhat lacking, but Bernardin's has improved my view of the restaurants here.
Bernardin's offered a unique selection of dishes. My husband ordered the kangaroo, which was a special the evening we went, and I had the grilled scallops. Both dishes were quite good, as were the appetizers we ordered. And the service was excellent. The location and historical building housing the restaurant are charming.
We had such a lovely experience, we were surprised the restaurant wasn't packed. Bernardin's is now my top choice for a fine dining experience in W-S.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWinston-Salem's BestBernardin's is located in a 100+ year-old house in Winston-Salem's historic West End. You'll find a menu unmatched elsewhere in town; there will always be "old favorites" such as an excellent ribeye steak or pasta with capellini, grilled shrimp and scallops - and a touch of the exotic such as kangaroo steak as a special of the day. The wine list - while not so long as to be overwhelming - offers an excellent variety of fine wines, including some local vintages. Desserts range from a simple bowl of ice cream to a banana walnut tart that is nothing short of amazing. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is memorable - dine outdoors if you can. Negatives? Parking can be scarce, especially on weekends.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first visit toThis was our first visit to Bernardin's and we truely enjoyed our experience. We dined outside on the patio and the service was outstanding. I ordered the seafood pasta bouillabaise and was very pleased with the flavor as it was loaded with scallops, shrimp, mussels and clams. My wife's filet was grilled to perfection. This will certainly be added to our list of favorite restaurants.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a great date night dinner hereFood was perfectly cooked and the presentation was very nice. Chantal was our server and she was great, very knowledgable about the menu. We will be going back, for sure. One tip, sit away from the stairs if you are sitting upstairs, there is a lot of noise from people running up and down the stairs.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. We will definitely enjoy dinner there again.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBernardins is amazing! I wouldBernardins is amazing! I would recommend it to anyone. We started with the mussels and fried oysters and had the chilean sea bass for entree. Perfect in every way.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWhile it had been a whileWhile it had been a while since we had last visited the restaurant, and the first time at the new location, it was just as great as we remembered. The perfect topping for those special occasions. Great atmosphere, great food, and a great experience.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AM
