A word from Berimbau Do Brasil
With its narrow yet spacious dining room, exposed brick walls, and banquette seating, Berimbau, a new addition to New York's Brazilian restaurant scene, boasts an antiquated yet urban atmosphere. What's more, their diverse menu of traditionally prepared Brazilian plates leaves patrons' palates pleased.

There is a dish to please every member of your party. Portions are hearty, and the cuisine is indicative of Berimbau's renowned chef's ability to blend both traditional Brazilian flavors with New York diners' sensibilities. The caipirinhas are made to perfection and are a must to have. A variety of flavors is offered at this brazilian hot spot. For an evocative dining experience in the West Village, give this New York Brazilian restaurant a go. Berimbau, aptly named for a native Brazilian instrument, will indeed leave you singing for more.

  • "It's a small gem in the West Village. The prices are reasonable compared to most Brazilian restaurants in the city, and the quality is right up there with the best. The waitstaff, was very friendly and made a wonderful evening before the theater."

  • "Had a lovely meal during the World Cup festivities. Service was great as was the food. Felt like we were dining in Rio."

  • "The restaurant is small & narrow with an open kitchen in the middle, so you can see the food prepared-- also served piping hot! The food is slightly unusual Brazilian fare. We both had caipinirhas & the stroganoff which was wonderful and plentiful but not heavy. We shared the chocolate balls for dessert which were EXCELLENT -- not to be missed -- delicious truffles covered with chocolate sprinkles -- one order was plenty for 2 of us. The service was super-friendly if a tad erratic. Nice "real" artwork on the walls. When we first arrived it was so hot & when we asked to move to a cooler table they turned on the AC. The front room is a bit nicer than the smaller back room. There is also a tiny outdoor section in the back with picnic tables"

  • "We went for a birthday and had great service! At the end asked for some shots but should've checked the price before ordering them... Overall great little Brazilian place!"

  • "Very small restaurant with good Brazilian food offerings. They have a brunch menu but you can select from dinner menu as well. Cute decor of yellow and green (soccer colors?) and great Brazilian music playing on the stereo. Very good service. Food is priced moderately, wine prices okay for whites, but reds, least expensive is $11."

  • "We went for brunch. The food was good, we has the rabanada and an omelet. They also had a good selection of caipirinhas with different flavor on special. Small place but wasn't crowded, we probably didn't need a reservation. Waiters were friendly. "

  • "We had a terrific night at Berimbau Do Brasil. We each had a different meal and it was all wonderful. The skirt steak was tender and had a great flavor, the seafood stew was the best I have every had in my life. "

  • "I was so excited to try Berimbau do Brasil and was not disappointed. Amazing food and ambience. We even got a special appetizer off the menu that the chef was able to make when we asked about it and our order got mixed up and we got an amazing complimentary passion fruit custard which was totally not necessary since we didn't even have to wait that long! Great place and will definitely be coming back!"

  • "This is a nice little hideaway restaurant tucked away in the heart of the West Village. Almost the anti-churrascaria, with authentic Brazilian flavors and music, which was audible enough to enjoy, but not loud enough to drown out conversation! Very rustic, very intimate, very good! Would definitely go again and recommend it to others, especially Brazilian friends who are looking for a little bit of home in the big city."

  • "Love this place for Brazilian in the city, but not this visit. The host/server greeted us and invited us to follow him, only he walked away and left us in the tightest bottleneck in the restaurant. The staff, confused, asked us to move back towards the door. After being seated and orders were taken, everything took forever. Watered down/weak drinks too. The server, needing another chair for another table, comes to ours, removes our belongings in the chair without asking, and then takes it away without a single word. Most offensive, however, was when he asked if we wanted dessert, followed by him looking at his watch. Oh, he brings back the extra chair and says thank you without excusing himself--again. Whatever. • "I visited Berimbau this week on Moqueca Night. ($20 for Moqueca + 1 Caipirinha). I was hesitant at first because I haven't been able to find a Brasilian restaurant in Manhattan that serves authentic, down-home Brasilian food. Most of the restaurants have really generic menus. But Berimbau was awesome...much like the food I remember from being in Brazil. The pao de quejo was absolutely perfect. The acaraje was flavorful and creative: served in bite sizes. And the moqueca....WONDERFUL. I'll definitely be returning!"

  • "Dear God!!! How I was missing the unexplainable and unique taste of the food from my country... I have found, besides that, incredible and friendly people working there: Rodrigo, Fernando, Tiago, a huge hug for you guys!!! I will sure return at least once per month!!!"

  • "Great Service for what we ordered. I had beef ribs and my date had salmon dinner. The food was awesome and the waiter was very nice and helpful. We didn't get any wine so I can't speak for that but they did have a nice wine bar. It was very cozy which was what I was looking for. It has a great ambiance with really good music playing in the background."

  • "Went here on Valentine's Day 2014 with a date so I can't tell you about their regular menu. They had a preselected 3 course meal. My date and I were very satisfied with with the food. We even discussed going back to check out their full menu some time. I'm Brazilian so I know good Brazilian food when I taste it and this was good Brazilian food. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I'm used to bigger portions at Brazilian restaurants."

  • "I had the chance to try they're skirt steak which was love for the very first bite, from now on that's definitely my fav dish. My friend tried they're Shrimp Strogonoff, an amazing option for shrimp lovers. We also shared the passion fruit mousse (so yummy) and a flan (waaay better than the cuban one, lol). So far, I highly recommend this spot for my fellows looking for an amazing brazilian food experience."

  • "the staffs were waiting and waiting to bring our food that was ready a long ago.... and their answer was "oh, it's always ready, I can always rush it when you tell us.". we were chewing on our appetizers forever, waiting and waiting until it felt like we were done with the whole meal. our medium ordered steak was cold hard and well done at this point (since it was sitting out too long), fried fish was hard and cold, lacking flavor. I am still digesting those food I had a week ago."

  • "Berimbau is small, only about 12 tables. There is no atmosphere to speak of and tables are pretty close together. The food is really good however. Interesting, fresh salad with mango, hearts of palm and a citrusy dressing. I had chicken stroganoff, a delicious Brazilian/tropical version of the Russian original. Served with excellent little crispy shoestring potatoes. My husband had a seafood stew that was also very good. Service was friendly and professional, surprising given the size of the place. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for something different and off the NYC tourist circuit. Reasonable food prices, limited and somewhat pricey wine list."

  • "We had a very fresh and delicious meal. The service was easy and pleasant and the music was good. As a vegetarian I really appreciated the number of good options offered. Overall we had a really nice time. If you're looking for noteworthy decor you won't find it here, but it doesn't matter because this is a neighborhood gem that you'll want to visit more than once."

  • "It's not easy to produce food that looks and tastes as good as that which we had at Berimbau do Brasil. The impeccably clean, open kitchen in the midst of the compact dining room sent out tantalizing scents of things cooking, and when our dinners arrived, the flavors lived up to our hopes. The cheese bread with a delicate meat filling was a special appetizer; the bacalao was flavorful and not at all salty, as it can be in some preparations; the feijoada was incredibly flavorful. The staff was so welcoming and friendly, it made it feel as though we were dining at someone's home. Our only regret is that it seemed to be a little pricey, but at least the quality and quantity of the food made it worth the expense."

  • "If you're looking for a lovely spot to enjoy a peaceful respite and wonderful Brazilian food, this is your place. A true neighborhood spot with warm ambiance and good service. Portions are huge and prices reasonable. Will definitely return."

  • "Fantastic chicken and rice soup on a cold day with cheese bread and empanadas that are just perfect along with a lunch menu that is extensive and reasonably priced. The staff are attentive and friendly and the owner is a great host."

  • "For the price to quality ratio, this place isn't worth it. The service was good, but the food was just average. The sirloin, ordered medium, was dry and bland. The pao de quiejo was $6 for 6 small pieces of bread. Wine prices very reasonable however."
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "Food was a little bland the Drinks were Okay and the service was fair the place is Tiny hole in the wall and the food is very Mediocre I had Brazilian food before the Skirt steak had no taste the ChimmiChurri sauce is extremely unflavored. So"

  • "The brazilian food menu is very diverse, typical dishes from all over Brazil. I love the fact that most places around the world sell only the traditional Brazilian "meat rodizio" all you can eat (Barbecue) which you feel pressured into overeating. It's either that or the buffet style. Love Merimbau for the delicious and diverse a la carte menu. Try the "moqueca"!!!"

  • "As usual, the dishes were all authentic and the ingredients excellent. Know the staff so were treated extremely well. Brought a couple from Boston who were very impressed. Continues to be a "neighborhood gem" and a destination as well."

  • "This small West Village gem competes very well on the level of food and drink with all the bigger and more expensive Brazilian restaurants but is tops in their preparation of black beans and rice."

  • "Nice brazilian stews, not typical. Waitress very friendly and making us comfortable. Atmosphere comfortable."

  • "Not fancy--but perfect for before the movies in the Village area. Absolutely delicious and well presented dinners for reasonable prices. Quiet enough for 5 adults to hear one another, and large enough glasses of wine for there to be lots of animated conversation. Altogether --fun, tasty--will definitely go back."

  • "Berimbau was my first Brazilian restaurant I have been to. The food was good, but the service was even better. The decor was very original and had paintings on the wall that were very distinct. I recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Brazilian food and a nice lowkey setting."
