Berghoff RestaurantBusiness lunch with out ofBusiness lunch with out of town associates who didn't know about the Berghoff. We had Jaegerscnitzel, Wienerschnitzel, Sausage-Trio, Sauerbratten & very happy campers...5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat comeback!Remembering fondly the Bergoff of 40 years ago, and on the advice of a friend, I was eager to return, having had a not so great experience just a few years ago. As a lover of German food, I didn't need their contemporary additions to the menu, but was pleased at the high quality of the wienerschnitzel and red cabbage. Our server was fabulous. I'll be back.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat location for theater goersNear several theaters and server asked if we were attending a show to make sure we were served without any issue. Consistently good food with great service. Love the "old Chicago" feel with the wood paneled walls and antique light fixtures.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMYou MUST Go to Berghoff'sWe had not dined at Bergoff in many years, and our experience was so good we will be back soon! The place was redone, but the atmosphere is timeless. They still have their own excellent beer and their private label bourbon. The service was excellent and the prices a value. Starting with a fabulous casserole of spinach, cheese and spaetzle and a flavorful brace of mini-sausages, we knew the evening would be memorable. Our entrees were incredible: my wife had a crabstuffed sole that was so fresh, so buttery, it was unrivaled. My Rahm Schnitzel was hammered pork with a coating that was thinner and tastier than any Schnitzel I've had. The portions were huge as well. We can kick ourselves for waiting so long to return. It was wonderful!!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you very much for theThank you very much for the wonderful food and great service. We will certainly return!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMHadn't been to Berghoff sinceHadn't been to Berghoff since it changed a few years ago. I'd heard it was good again so we decided to try it. We were pleasantly surprised by the menu which combined the old German favorites with some new lighter dishes. We went before a CSO concert and will do so again in the future.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBerghoff is a treat at a bargainThe Berghoff is my favorite place to eat in Chicago. My mother is German and I have spent a long time in Germany-- the Berghoff does a great job with their food, especially the various preparations of potatoes (try the potato pancakes with applesauce!). The atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable, and the whole place has a very happy feel. I had my rehearsal dinner for my wedding in the Berghoff (downstairs) and all the guests had a great time. This restaurant is a real treasure in the downtown, and reasonably priced!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMPretzelMustFairly authentic German food, excellent choice of brews, the pretzel is a must eat!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent! Very attentiveExcellent! Very attentive staff. Great Maitre d (Scott?), terrific waitress. Always enjoy eating here; we love the menu and great food choices. And we were able to eat and rush off to the Symphony Center, in perfect time.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood lunch- seated immediatelyGood lunch- seated immediately with reservation; not overly crowded at lunch4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMBest German food in Chicago! This was my first experience at the Berghoff, and it was fantastic! It's just like the meals my German grandmother would make. Sauerbraten was outstanding as was the Jaejer Schnitzel was unbelievable! I will definitely make it back to this wonderful family German restaurant, and icon of Chicago!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAs good as everGreat to see this landmark alive and well. Food and service top notch. Nice to see the menu freshened up as well. A Chicago treasure.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFinding two favorite restaurantsFinding two favorite restaurants fully booked, we needed a restaurant within easy walking distance of Orchestra Hall. Berghoff, which we often visited many years ago, was one of several suggested by Open Table. We arrived at 5:30, before the dining room was crowded, and this may have contributed to the speed and efficiency with which we were presented our cocktails and then our main course. Our waiter was pleasant, efficient, and spoke perfect English -- a change from the old Berghoff. Food and drink were excellent and fairly priced. We will be back.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMStill goingWe were sad when the original Berghoff closed. When it reopened under new management, we were happy but skeptical. Our first experience was so-so. We revisited last week. Not all of the original dishes are still available, but the creamed spinach (an available side) is still heavenly. Our friends who dined with us had had a not so good experience at the reincarnation, but they were impressed this time. All is not lost.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, the Berghoff wasAs always, the Berghoff was a great dining experience.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food, history andWonderful food, history and service. The service was outstanding.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAn oldy but a goodyWe were so happy when they re-opened this restaurant. We went here before a musical and were not disappointed. the wince was great and the food was even better and pretty reasonable for a downtown restaurant.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWE used to go the the BerghoffWE used to go the the Berghoff regularly before the CSO. We stopped for a long while, using other places for about 20 years. Then decided to try the Berghoff again, went early before the Symphony to be sure to get a table. Tried our old staple, wiener schnitzel, potato pancakes and red cabbage. These were as good as we remember them from long ago. Same fore the apple strudel dessert, super. Service was fine. We will go back from time to time on Symphony nights.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMA Chicago classic. GermanA Chicago classic. German comfort food with excellent service. Oldest restaurant in Chicago. The Berghof delivered, as usual. Germanic, indeed but with a foodie touch. Though not experimental they are extremely dependable. Try their Pork Shank. Abosolutely deliteful!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMQuick lunch! Literally hadQuick lunch! Literally had our food in 5 minutes. Great spot!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAccomodatingGreat German food! The kitchen was able to address a special request with no hassle. Will return soon.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI had not been to the berghoffI had not been to the berghoff in years. It's a historic spot in Chicago. The place has a nostalgic, old restaurant look with an updated menu. It isn't all German and is vegetarian friendly. The food was good. I had the vegetable panini and my companions had lamb stew and the lamburger. We all appreciated the friendly, attentive service.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Berghoff has long beenThe Berghoff has long been a favorite of our family.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI was prepared to be underwhelmedI was prepared to be underwhelmed by this Chicago landmark, but instead was blown away by the quality of the food, innovative menu, great service and all around fabulous everything. The Berghoff version of French Onion soup - to die for! Pierogies - how good can they be? They're even better at Berghoff's. Excellent cocktails and finishing the meal with German Chocolate cake, made on premises - mwah! We will return. Oh, forgot the gorgeous woodwork and stained glass that makes you feel like you're in Munich.3/2/2013 12:00:00 AMTook our team to lunch. AsTook our team to lunch.
