Diner Reviews
  • "Delicious, original food. Attentive but not intrusive waitstaff. A great place for a celebratory dinner."

  • "Food was delightful. Among other things,we had a stellar soft shell crab that was served with delicious pasta and the ingredients were fresh and perfectly prepared. Our server was knowledgable and attentive. The maître de was welcoming and friendly."

  • "Of the four of us, three were VERY happy with our meals. The charcuterie plate was delicious, I loved my creamed morels, my son was a bit disappointed with his steak (or, more specifically, the sauce on it). But the menu changes all the time. Check it out online. I'm already looking forward to my next chance to eat there."

  • "Excellent meal at Rendezvous. The Desserts were standout--roasted plum with adzuki bean paste, matcha something or other, kasha (!) icecream was delicious. The Tapioca coconut pudding came wrapped in a sesame tuile that was crunchy and with a sorbet and fresh fruit that punched it up. I had the morels in a cream sauce, lamb ravioli (superb), peaches and ham (great), soft shelled crab on pasta (surprisingly good). I'm not crazy about their wine selection because its too french and astringent for my taste but they really care about what they are serving and it shows."

  • "Imaginative use of seasonal ingredients: roasted peaches and pancetta; asparagus; fresh fava beans; Deconstructed desserts a surprise. Tables for two along the far wall are too crowded. Waiters' derrieres scraped our bread plates. We feared for our wine bottle while waiters served adjacent tables."

  • "Once again Bergamot delivers a delicious and rewarding dining experience. We started with the lamb raviolis and the asparagus salad, followed by the salmon and the roasted hake for dinner. It was all quite tasty!! Service was also excellent with observant but not obtrusive wait staff. We don't eat here often enuf!"

  • "For the appetizer, we had the charcuterie which was excellent, especially the head cheese. Entre was cod and dessert was strawberries and peaches. Portions a bit small, but well prepared."

  • "The dishes were from local ingredients and were cooked with much thought to flavor - nothing too brash or unusual, but just interesting and subtle flavors that complemented each other. The charcuterie plate included a homemade sausage (pork I think) with pistachio and sundried tomato - and other subtle and harmonious flavors. I would love to have it again. Definitely French influence, but also loca-vore. Everything was excellent."

  • "The Somerville food scene is really on the rise and Bergamot is among the best. The $42 fixed price menu is a very good value. The food is more Mediterranean than anything else but is not easy to classify. The seven course tasting menus at $75 with wine pairing sagaciously priced at $50 gives you the opportunity to sample a wide range of their offerings and is has never let us down."

  • "We had dinner at Bergamont on a Saturday evening and we were not disappointed. The cocktails, wine list, food quality and presentation were excellent. We look forward to our next dinner. Also, very good value."

  • "My friend and I had an incredible meal here - we chose to do the prix fixe, although I went with a couple of items that had an up-charge. The asparagus salad was fresh and delicious, my sirloin steak was melt-in-your-mouth delicious and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The cheese course for dessert brought me right back to vacationing in Europe! The service was excellent as well. Highly recommend!"

  • "Overall a nice experience. The food was interesting, lovely flavor and spice combinations. The stuffed poblano pepper was excellent as were the carne offerings. The service was cordial if a tad over eager."

  • "Bergamot is a cute high-end restaurant in Sommerville with classy american fare. I went there on a sunday evening for a date, arriving to a quiet half-filled restaurant. It had a relaxed and upscale atmosphere Bergamot offers one of the best Prix Fixe deals around - $42 for an appetizer, entree, and dessert. My date got the prix fixe and we shared the appetizer and dessert. This turned out to be the perfect amount of food. We got the house-made Charcuterie, grilled swordfish, pan-roasted cod with strawberries and apricots to finish off. The cod was the highlight of the meal - a perfect fish with a buttery fondu sauce compliment. My only complaint was the service asked if we were done a bit too often. Other than that, a delicious dinner."

  • "My wife and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary here and ha a great time. The food was amazing and the service was impeccable. We even received a couple of amuse bouche type items during the meal."

  • "The combination of taste, presentation, service and ambiance is overall the best in Boston area. We also like Hungry Mother, and EVOO and Catalyst had their day too but have declined relatively over a few years. Magnificent dining."

  • "We had a lovely, lovely evening at Bergamot - the host was friendly in a genuine way, our server was patient and didn't hover, and the food was scrumptious. There aren't that many places I've been in the Boston area that offer this combination of consistently good food with an upscale - yet not pretentious - atmosphere. Thanks!"

  • "I hadn't been to Bergamot for years. It's still the great restaurant I remember. Nice variety on the menu, wonderfully prepared food, friendly service."

  • "Appealing ambiance: warm, inviting, tables not too close. Graciously greeted as we arrived, given the seating I'd requested, staff professional, , cheerful, but not intrusive, wonderful wine list and menu. The pri fixe menu was inclusive...all the choices as the a la carte menu, and between courses little amusee buche - gift of the chef. The food was superb - imaginative, perfectly cooked, wonderful. It was a great evening."

  • "Bergamot continues to delight. Our dinners were deliciously inventive, emphasizing seasonal local ingredients. The wine list has moved away from its lovely Loire valley focus to more mainstream selections but has many fine selections. Service is great. "

  • "Bergamot was outstanding. It always is. It is the best restaurant in Cambridge and Boston. The food is superb. The service is friendly, gracious and attentive. It is our "go-to" restaurant for all occasions."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed Bergamot, and will definitely return. The food and service were great! Our only comments were that the crab pierogi appetizer while delicious, was a bit heavy. Also, there needs to be a little more attention paid to the bathrooms. One of them was very wet on the floor by the toilet to the point we didn't want to use it-either create separate bathrooms for men and women or keep a better eye on cleaning them during the evening. While this latter comment is not about the food which really was wonderful, in our view cleanliness of bathrooms are a reflection of the restaurant as well so hopefully that can be corrected. Other than those two minor things, we would definitely recommend Bergamot and will be back!"

  • "Had the price fix dinner and enjoyed every mouthful! Loved the little "amuse bouche" …..we had three of them! I had the flank steak and my husband had the vegetable strudel…….both wonderful!"

  • "Went for our anniversary, and was a fantastic experience. Quick, personal service without feeling snooty. Fantastic food, highly recommend the pork back. Wine was well recommended by our waitress, and the restaurant served us a little champagne before dinner in honor of the occasion."

  • "We've been coming to Bergamot since it opened and have never been disappointed. Even an avowed liver hater thoroughly enjoyed the chicken liver mousse on the house charcuterie platter, and grilled swordfish and pork loin (a special) entrees were delicious and inventive. We passed on dessert, but were delighted by a complimentary offering of hibiscus sorbet with after-dinner coffee and single malt."

  • "The appetizers and main dishes were amazing. The mahi-mahi was excellent. The service was great, very friendly and helpful in selected the dishes and wines. A bit disappointed by the desserts though "

  • "I had heard so much buzz about this spot that we simply had to try it. So when my boyfriend's birthday came around, it was an obvious choice. The three course prix fixe menu is very moderately priced (only $42) and you can choose from anything on the menu. And oh my was everything delicious! It's hard to pick out a favorite but the highlight of our dinner had to be dessert. Combination of flavors all around was innovative and very very tasty! The complimentary amouse bouche, mango gelato, and lavender corncake throughout the meal were a nice touch. Definitely coming back here for special occasions!"

  • "We were excited to try this restaurant, given all the nice things we've heard. We were very impressed with our appetizers (I liked the Chinese Pork Belly), and the bread was yummy. We had reservations for 5:45 and ran into some friends who also had reservations for 5:45. For some reason, they got drinks and bread right away, and we were always 1 course behind them in receiving our food. There didn't seem to be one assigned waiter. The main entrees were small, and my flank steak was mediocre. My husband received his flank steak, cut into it, and as he was going to put a piece in his mouth, one of the managers came and said he was sorry he gave him the wrong plate, and literally took the plate out from under him. Dessert was just ok."

  • " My husband and I were greatly disappointed in Bergamot. We'd been there before and expected a tasty meal. Instead, I was served an undercooked, unattractive slab of mahi mahi, with a tiny amount of tasteless sauce on top, along with dry mashed potatoes and some salty crispy vegetable that was supposedly kale but had none of its piquant flavor. My husband asked for his salmon to be cooked through, but it arrived almost raw. Even after he sent it back, it still wasn't cooked through. The service was beyond bad. The waiter, whom we had a hard time understanding (and our hearing is fine!), was inattentive to the point of being rude. All in all, a big (and expensive) disappointment. We won't be back."

  • "Had mother's day dinner with my son. We have had some really fine dining in NYC or elsewhere. Bergamot is a 5 for Boston. A lot of variety in the menu and good ingredients make it a place where we will return to often. Killer desserts."

  • "We were seated immediately and our drink order was taken right away but service soon fell apart. A large group came in and were seated right next to us and they were very loud. They demanded a lot of attention. Appetizers came out quickly but then we were left without any food or water for awhile. We ordered dessert and coffee. The dessert came out and we could not even get anyones attention to ask about our coffee (even sitting there not touching our desserts). I finally got our watiers attention and cancelled the coffees and just asked for our check."

  • "Bad first impression from our server put a slight damper on our experience, but his assistants followed up nicely. He hovered too much and was abrupt with answers. The fish entrees were very good, although the kale was inedible because it was oversalted. We wished our server was around during that time. As a result, it was mentioned after the fact, and a little dessert nibble with our bill was a nice recovery. We finished dessert while they were still trying to get coffee to us. They spilled my husband's and did nothing to clean up. Only one of us offered a refill. The prix fix is a very good deal. We're glad we tried Bergamot, but it's not worth a return visit for us."

  • "We went to Bergamot to celebrate our daughter's birthday; three of us shared one $15.00 appetizer which was quite delicious so we had high expectations regarding the upcoming meal. Two skinny strips of salmon and a tiny scattering of vegetables were tasty and well prepared, but the portion was so small, I had no choice but to order dessert. My husband's flank steak was so chewy he was sorry he ordered it. The desserts at $10.00 each were equally small portioned and nothing special. The $176.00 tab for the four of us before tip given 1 appetizer, 4 main courses and 3 desserts, and only one glass of wine, felt like bad value. Service was very good; a birthday candle was placed in our daughter's dessert, but we will not return. "

  • "My daughter suggested Bergamot for a dinner with 5 colleagues coming together from Puerto Rico, NJ and MA. Our table was ready when we arrived, the wine/special cocktail list was shared and suggestions offered by a very knowledgeable staff, and we enjoyed a delightful 'cocktail hour' of conversation prior to enjoying our meal. The prix-fixe menu was perfect, offering so many wonderful selections. The food was fabulous, in addition to being carefully prepared and exquisitely presented. My guests commented that their selection was the best, salmon, mahi-mahi, and flank steak they'd ever had. The wait staff was also very honest with recommendations and did not hurry our meal. We had a most delightful visit and will return again. "

  • "We have been to Bergamot many times and the food and drinks are always outstanding. The only problem is its growing popularity. I love their bourbon and luxardo drink."

  • "We opted to order of the menu instead of the 3 or 7 course tasting menus. Boy did we feel silly. Every bite of each dish we ordered was amazing. We really wished we tried more from this chef. "

  • "Wish they could do something to lessen the noise; also the current wine list could have more breadth--spring whites not very interesting. The swordfish was a little thin to get the great grill and retain the moisture, but overall, the food was wonderful."
