Beet appetizers fantastic - mango cerviche a little underwhelming. Hanger steaks and scallops fabulous. At prix fixe of $39 we had desserts as well and all were great. Nice room and atmosphere - plenty of helpful service people around. I've been to this restaurant (which for me is a local one) a dozen times, and I've never been disappointed. The dishes are consistently both imaginative and delicious. My companion and I, who had recently been to Menton, agreed that the food was less élaboré but as enjoyable on its own terms, and for 1/2 the price. The wine list is small, but full of inexpensive gems from Loire and southern France. It complements the food beautifully. Service is warm and efficient but sometimes a bit over-attentive. Two of the most outstanding and unusual items were the crisp mushroom bread pudding appetizer and the rhubarb clafoutis, unlikely as they both sound. When our appetizers were delayed (because someone had ordered 48 oysters at the very moment our order went in), we received both apologies and free asparagus, even though we had not noticed the delay. We had the pork tenderloin and the broiled scallops both of which were excellent. The $39 (sort of) prix fixe menu allows you to choose one appetizer, one entree and a dessert. It is available anytime; however, several of the items on the menu carry a small additional charge if ordered on the prix fixe menu. It is still a good deal though. And, the dessert menu offers a nice assortment of sweets including a chocolate marquise with caramel sauce and ginger ice cream that will impress any chocolate lover.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMEat here. The well-edited menu offers something for everyone, and it's all as wonderful to look at as it is to eat. This is probably in my top three restaurants in Greater Boston. For example I have booked for wife's B-Day well in advance of date, and requested one of these tables only to show up and be told that they are reserved for other parties. On other occassions I have showed up with a party of 4 after advance booking and saw two of these open, and was told that others had reserved. The meal was more than outstanding for every course for every one of the five of us. Each morsel was just beautiful both to the eye and the palate. Very well presented and prepared. Who would've thought of Dessert with black olives but mine stole the prize. Service was good albeit slightly overly hurried but that may have been to turn tables over in RW which is always a crazy time. Creative dishes, great ambiance and outstanding service make the entire experience enjoyable. From the moment you walk in until you leave, you feel as though you are the only peopel eating at the restaurant. The service is attentive without being intrusive. The food was interesting, I had the dumplings and swordfish which were spectacular. My companion had the salted beets and chicken which were equally good and totally different. Not only was it interesting but it was also well cooked, well presented and surprising. Even if that was convincing then the price should be. This food was better than that in many of the higher rated restaurants so perhaps diners are trying not to let others know so they will still get a table.
