A word from Bent
Superstar chef Susur Lee designed the menu and still oversees the kitchen but hands over the reins to his sons Kai & Levi Bent-Lee. In this up and coming Dundas west neighborhood the boys have chosen a laid back vibe emphasis on great food and imaginative drinks. The decor also a family affair designed by the boys mother Brenda Bent and her partner Karen Gable.
Critics agree Susur Lee has done it again! Favorites include Tuna and Watermelon Ceviche, Chicken Dumplings, Slow Braised Five Spice Short Ribs, Kale and Tofu Salad, a decidedly Asian flare with house brewed sake. A lively environment with great service

The food was very very good. We enjoyed all 5 plates we ordered. The sashimi platter was very fresh and loved the duck spring rolls. The food did come out very slow even though we were just a table of 2 - but that is the only complaint we have. We will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.

The dinner was amazing. As vegetarians we were a little nervous as sometimes there are not many options but there was a decent selection! The chickpea balls were to die for! Will definitely return. A little overpriced though.

Bent was our first visit to a Susur Lee restaurant, and it was tremendous. Slaw was best I've ever had, the uzu-basil mignonette with the oysters was unique and delicious. Really, every dish we had was delicious. Service was good too. Only misstep on the evening was that before dinner I ordered a cocktail that never arrived. Otherwise it was perfect.

The food was good, the many taste that satisfied the taste buds, was really exceptional. The serving size was perfect. The starters were the best vs starters and the main course. Next time I would do just starters. We went there in particular to have Lobster Shooters, but they were off the menu already. The Tuna Sashimi was just just average at best. The rest, excellent.

In one word, Bent was amazing. We did the tasting menu, and had a vegan in our group. The chef tailored the menu to her dietary restrictions and also provided protein options for the non-vegans in our group. The last course was separate, and the chef chose the lamb chops for myself and the others. Typically I do not like lamb and would have never ordered it if on my own, but in the event I ever make it back to Bent, I will be ordering the lamb. The one downside would be the noise level. Perhaps a little softer music would allow patrons to talk without having to yell. Overall, the experience was excellent and I would go back anytime!

I have been to Bent twice -- a busy Saturday night and a moderately busy Wednesday night. The tile floors and walls reverberate the noise and my dinner companions and I had to shout at each other to be heard. On many occasions during the Saturday night conversation we had to repeat ourselves one by one to each other. I'm still in my thirties....just thought I'd mention that in case I sound like a fuddy-duddy. The food and services were great.

The Veggielicious menu was amazing, highlighting vegetarian dishes they have on their regular menu. The chilled soba noodles were particular delicious. The decor was cool, but the acoustics in the place was terrible with sound reverberating off their tiled walls.

We all had the 5 course Veggielicious menu. My companions didn't enjoy the curry spiced eggplant appetizer. I didn't taste it very well because I accidentally assaulted my taste buds with the spicy mixture that accompanied the Romano bean hummus. I still managed to enjoy the third appetizer which was tomato based when I combined it with the accompanying basil leaves. The second course was an extraordinary combination of textures and flavours that included herb sprouts. I really enjoyed the third course which was silken tofu fried in chickpea batter. The fourth course was a delicious mushroom quinoa risotto. I had enjoyed a similar version of the dessert at a different Susur Lee restaurant. Staff were very pleasant.

I am a foodie. I am familiar with Susar Lee restaurants, which is why I wanted to try Bent. It is out of our "area" that we most frequent for dining, but well worth it! We had a group of 5, all of which had not been before. The waiter took the opportunity to suggest that we all share 10-12 small dishes of food. He also took into consideration that we had one vegetarian. The kitchen came out with dish after dish that were truly spectacular in taste/presentation, and ingredients that were like a party on the palate. Will definitely make the effort to go back! Thanks!

We went to Bent for my husband's birthday. We had a great dinner on the outdoor patio with our six year old son (who commented several times that the restaurant was "so good"). Lots of interesting flavour combinations, the food was amazing and creative. The restaurant was busy, but not packed and not too noisy. Loved the decor - if you went to school in the '80's, it will definitely bring back memories!

Delicious food! We did the chef's tasting selection, and they sent out a selection of dishes with enough for 5 people on each one. Our food total came to $50, which we were very pleased with given that we tasted a wide variety of delicious food, and left VERY satisfied. The Tong Yuen was one of the most delicious things I've ever put in my mouth. A must try!

Fantastic food - the oyster shooter is worth the trip as were many other dishes and cocktails. The wait staff were knowledgeable, friendly and easy on the eyes. The service seemed really slow. The restaurant is super loud and the chairs were good at first, but difficult to sit on for the duration. It was a reasonably expensive experience. But I will remember the food with delight for a long long time and that is what I was looking for when I went there. I will certainly return the next time I can afford it. Recommend the oyster shooter, the oysters on the half shell with yuzu mignonette, definitely the sashimi sampler plate and the beef carpaccio.

The food was delicious, fresh, and well presented. The service was odd and a bit too scripted. We had four different people who served us. Seems like there's more servers than customers. At one point a server started fixing the utensils at the table beside rather than taking our order. Customers first might be a better approach. Would definitely go back though.

the food is visually beautiful and equally delicious. the tuna and watermelon ceviche was magical. the night's special, a braised beef ravioli, was beautifully balanced and rich in layers of flavor. my companion was turned off by the pumpkin seeds on the seared salmon, but i found them one of the most interesting aspects of a dish that could use either some acidity or some spicy heat to offset a general creamy blandness. our server was lovely - attentive but not intrusive, and knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. i look forward to going back and exploring the menu further.

A fantastic spot for dinner. Great for 2 but a group of 4 or more would mean your get to try more from the menu. As a couple we had 5 dishes and while each was delish it was too much food!! The spicy tuna and watermelon ceviche was lovely, light & scrumptious, the duck confit and goats cheese spring rolls divine and the shrimp with shrimp dumplings in lobster bisque were too die for. We must say too that the cocktails were expertly mixed and the service was just outstanding!

A simple decor reminds the visitor that Bent is all about food. Beginning with a professional greeting, the food fanatic won't be disappointed with the ambitious swirling of ingredients and intelligent presentation. The service is highly attentive without being intrusive. Five star food and service. My only beef is when I called a day in advance that we would arrive an hour later, 730 not 630, the person I spoke to did an impression of a snotty New York restaurant greeter saying the restaurant was soooo busy you couldn't ever get seated. Not. One of our party arrived early to secure the table and the restaurant, it was a Tuesday night, never filled up. When Toronto stops trying to be Manhatten it will be better for all. Otherwise amazing.

Wonderful to taste many small plates and not leave overfed (I was taught always to eat what was on my plate). Creative and delicious but not pretentious. I don't care how they position it, it's not really what I would call "family style" in which case, it is not conducive to sharing with more than one person. We were a table of four and I felt like we always trying to figure out how to share something that wasn't cut out for sharing . . . how do you share gazpacho? Similarly, I felt like we each had ONE bite of every dish. "Family style" to me means robust or plentiful and this isn't either of these things.

Food was great, especially the tuna ceviche, however, the staff kept bringing new dishes before we could finish the last. Our waitress was friendly but inattentive. We had to request another staff to please send her over so we could order another drink. Once ordered, we waited a while and one drink was never delivered. The waitress finally brought us our bill and then asked if there was anything else we would like. The whole evening felt like we were being rushed out the door.

The shrimp crispers app was amazing and I'd go back just for that. The watermelon gazpacho app seemed like the bottom of a soup bowl...and the bowl it was served in needs to be less shallow. The mains of orzo and salmon were really, really good. Those two mains would also be reason to return. The deserts were lacking. The chocolate mousse was boring, the caramel jackfruit roll's pastry was thick and wrong. The restaurant itself was really cool and I like the "buzzy" atmosphere. The trek to the bathrooms was really cool and I really liked the decor of the oversized retro classroom pictures. If one area of the restaurant needed improving it was in the service. The servers were inexperienced and there were large gaps between plates.
