A word from Bent
Superstar chef Susur Lee designed the menu and still oversees the kitchen but hands over the reins to his sons Kai & Levi Bent-Lee. In this up and coming Dundas west neighborhood the boys have chosen a laid back vibe emphasis on great food and imaginative drinks. The decor also a family affair designed by the boys mother Brenda Bent and her partner Karen Gable.
Critics agree Susur Lee has done it again! Favorites include Tuna and Watermelon Ceviche, Chicken Dumplings, Slow Braised Five Spice Short Ribs, Kale and Tofu Salad, a decidedly Asian flare with house brewed sake. A lively environment with great service

  • "Fantastic food - the oyster shooter is worth the trip as were many other dishes and cocktails. The wait staff were knowledgeable, friendly and easy on the eyes. The service seemed really slow. The restaurant is super loud and the chairs were good at first, but difficult to sit on for the duration. It was a reasonably expensive experience. But I will remember the food with delight for a long long time and that is what I was looking for when I went there. I will certainly return the next time I can afford it. Recommend the oyster shooter, the oysters on the half shell with yuzu mignonette, definitely the sashimi sampler plate and the beef carpaccio."

  • "The food was delicious, fresh, and well presented. The service was odd and a bit too scripted. We had four different people who served us. Seems like there's more servers than customers. At one point a server started fixing the utensils at the table beside rather than taking our order. Customers first might be a better approach. Would definitely go back though."

  • "We had a wonderful variety on our first visit to this lively restaurant. We had cocktails to start - the green apple foam on the sour was a tasty surprise. From the many items we ordered, tofu and short ribs were a table favorite! I also loved the sushi and sashimi tasting. Everything was fabulous. We we definitely return!"

  • "the food is visually beautiful and equally delicious. the tuna and watermelon ceviche was magical. the night's special, a braised beef ravioli, was beautifully balanced and rich in layers of flavor. my companion was turned off by the pumpkin seeds on the seared salmon, but i found them one of the most interesting aspects of a dish that could use either some acidity or some spicy heat to offset a general creamy blandness. our server was lovely - attentive but not intrusive, and knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. i look forward to going back and exploring the menu further."

  • "A fantastic spot for dinner. Great for 2 but a group of 4 or more would mean your get to try more from the menu. As a couple we had 5 dishes and while each was delish it was too much food!! The spicy tuna and watermelon ceviche was lovely, light & scrumptious, the duck confit and goats cheese spring rolls divine and the shrimp with shrimp dumplings in lobster bisque were too die for. We must say too that the cocktails were expertly mixed and the service was just outstanding!"

  • "A simple decor reminds the visitor that Bent is all about food. Beginning with a professional greeting, the food fanatic won't be disappointed with the ambitious swirling of ingredients and intelligent presentation. The service is highly attentive without being intrusive. Five star food and service. My only beef is when I called a day in advance that we would arrive an hour later, 730 not 630, the person I spoke to did an impression of a snotty New York restaurant greeter saying the restaurant was soooo busy you couldn't ever get seated. Not. One of our party arrived early to secure the table and the restaurant, it was a Tuesday night, never filled up. When Toronto stops trying to be Manhatten it will be better for all. Otherwise amazing."

  • "I don't know when I last enjoyed food so much. Beautiful blend of flavours. Nothing I could make at home. Wonderful to taste many small plates and not leave overfed (I was taught always to eat what was on my plate). Creative and delicious but not pretentious. Waitstaff are very pleasant, describe dishes and suggest how to eat them with sauces. Wonderful treat for a woman who loves to cook."

  • "I don't care how they position it, it's not really what I would call "family style" in which case, it is not conducive to sharing with more than one person. We were a table of four and I felt like we always trying to figure out how to share something that wasn't cut out for sharing . . . how do you share gazpacho? Similarly, I felt like we each had ONE bite of every dish. "Family style" to me means robust or plentiful and this isn't either of these things."

  • "Food was great, especially the tuna ceviche, however, the staff kept bringing new dishes before we could finish the last. Our waitress was friendly but inattentive. We had to request another staff to please send her over so we could order another drink. Once ordered, we waited a while and one drink was never delivered. The waitress finally brought us our bill and then asked if there was anything else we would like. The whole evening felt like we were being rushed out the door."

  • "i was reserved seats for two two weeks ago, and i asked for window seat. however, when i got there, they just arranged a small table and just beside the washroom. i saw they have other seats are available. but they don't allow me to change. i thought that seats might reserved by other customs, but after i finished my dinner, that seats still are available. actually. my reservation was pretty late."

  • "The shrimp crispers app was amazing and I'd go back just for that. The watermelon gazpacho app seemed like the bottom of a soup bowl...and the bowl it was served in needs to be less shallow. The mains of orzo and salmon were really, really good. Those two mains would also be reason to return. The deserts were lacking. The chocolate mousse was boring, the caramel jackfruit roll's pastry was thick and wrong. The restaurant itself was really cool and I like the "buzzy" atmosphere. The trek to the bathrooms was really cool and I really liked the decor of the oversized retro classroom pictures. If one area of the restaurant needed improving it was in the service. The servers were inexperienced and there were large gaps between plates."

  • "Two of us shared delicious Cajun Shrimp & Vegetable Fritters & Fried Jerk Chicken appetizers, & Caribbean Pan Roasted Salmon. Spring Vegetable Orzo was tasty, but not a WOW like the rest of our meal. Dessert Trio was yummy! Service was excellent - like how all the servers seem to help one another seamlessly. Friendly & attentive, but not intrusive. Team work that really works! Noise level is still high & can be difficult for conversation at times. But still love coming back to BENT!"

  • "We went here for Summerlicious and we had the best food experience. Venue, nice & vibrant. Service- mostly friendly, our waiter could be a tad more cheerful, he looked like he really didn't want to wait on us. Food, Delicious! Aps, we had Cajun Shrimp&Veg Fritter and Fried Jerk Chicken. Both were really tasty, but the fritter was the star! Main, we had the steak (the other options had ginger w/c we don't like). The steak was smaller than usual steaks but that's ok. It was ok. However the beef empanada-like pastry that came with it was a real treat! The mustard & the sauce was good too.Dessert trio, the spring roll elevated the Filipino dessert (turon which is similar to it) to a whole new level!Totally unexpected. The Mousse was heavenly."

  • "My husband and I were there to celebrate our ninth anniversary, and everything about our evening was absolutely perfect! Our server and bussers were very attentive at all times. Loved our little table on the patio! We decided to go with the summerlicous menu, and we were not disappointed at all. Everything was cooked to perfection, flavours were amazing in every dish. The restaurant got quite busy near the end of our meal and we had to wait 25 minutes after the bill came to settle with the waiter. Otherwise, a very enjoyable first-time experience at Bent."

  • "The place has an eclectic decor and high energy, but the sound reverbs off the tiles and it's hard to hear. We went for Summerlicious, a great way to try new things, but wouldn't recommend it. The choices are limited and the food even smaller. My husbands main included one small piece of steak (where a normal portion is usually 4 - 6 slices) and one agnolotti. He left hungry and a little deaf. The wall of small toys behind us was also a bit strange...didn't get its connection to the rest of the space. The food quality is good and interesting. Just go on a normal day and pay full fare."

  • "The food was surprising and tasty, both in description and execution. Combinations of tastes that we did not expect, made the dishes deep and delicious. Also surprisingly filling; adding one more dish to the SUMMERLICIOUS menu was enough for two big eaters. Loved the spice crusted tofu and the watermelon gazpacho. Drinks and wine very expensive, however and we could afford only one. Nice to see the owner hanging out as well."

  • "I have been to BENT before but this time is for summerlicious. We had three people so it was perfect that we were able to try three appetizers and three main courses at the same time. He summerlicious menu was not as great as their regular menu though. The watermelon and cucumber soup is a bit odd and it is the only thing that I didn't like for that night. All three main courses were excellent. I think the curry is fabulous and the salmon is my favorite of the night. Desert is ok. I'd prefer to have one desert with more substance and character than have a combination of the trio though. Overall, I'd say the food is great and it is worth the money and the waiting. I will certainly go back again."

  • "Fantastic food!! The flavours were incredible! Duck confit spring rolls and pan roasted salmon (summery, spicy with citrusy and tangy) were amazing - great cominations of flavours in both dishes! The gin sour was perfectly balanced an went down very easily as well! The service was unbelievably fast (possibly would have been unsettling, except for that it was dinner time and the food that came was so delicious). My only complaint was that one server introduced himself as our waiter and while he returned a couple times thoughout the dinner, every dish and drink was brought and explained to us by a new person each time. Thanks for a fanstastic meal! It's been a while since I've felt that a restaurant has truly lived up to its hype!"

Not here - all of the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. And the food - especially the shrimp and vegetable fritters were to die for!"

  • "Went with my wife for Summerlicious. Excellent value for $35 with appetizer, main and dessert. Inventive Asian-inspired menu in typical Susur fashion. Although nothing was mind-blowing, the flavour combinations were solid. We enjoyed the flavours here better than our experience at Canoe (also for Summerlicious), which was also a good but lacked dimension. The hostess had the typical Bent snobbery but our server was sweet but inexperienced and fumbled quite a bit when clearing our plates in between courses. The decor was interesting with a mesh between Asian and hipster. Would come back again for the regular menu next time."

  • "Went for Summerlicious which can be very hit or miss- the staff did not treat us differently then any other customer (which is not always the case during summer/winterlicious) they were wonderful, informative and super friendly. The food was also amazing, beef and salmon cooked perfectly and so much flavour in all their dishes. Great whites on their wine list too. Will definitely be going back to try some other dishes!"

  • "First time here, I would definitely recommend. The dishes were all unique but not intimidating. All the dishes were really good and flavourful. There wasn't one stand out dish, they were all equally good-we had the tuna ceviche, chicken dumplings, short ribs, kale salad, lobster tacos & signature dessert. We sat on the patio so the atmosphere was relaxed."

  • "We loved it!In 4 people with one bottle of red wine and one of sparkling and about 10 dishes - we paid 335 including tax and before tips - so not bad at all -about the same you would spend at Keg-plus, instead of a large piece of meat,potatoes,salad, you get to try a few outstanding dishes. The portions are small- designed this way,you can experience a few of them,I loved this. Our favorites were the Peruvian ceviche and the duck rolls - but you may have other favorite. The waiters were very attentive and kept on filling up our glasses whenever they noticed they were half empty. I admit, not for everyone, if you are the meat and potato type, don't bother. Also, keep in mind, prices are higher, however, quality of food is higher, too."

  • "The food was excellent. Interesting flavours and textures expertly prepared and presented. The service was mediocre. There were some simple mistakes: we were asked twice in a row if we wanted drinks; had to find the waiter to order a drink after sending them away for a few minutes to decide; the last dish before desert took too long to appear. There was also one mild disappointment: the wait staff were informed of a birthday and did nothing about it -- just a candle in one of the deserts we ordered would have been nice. I'd definitely go back for the food."

We even ended up ordering the dessert twice because the first time so was delicious. Go to Bent. Service is amazing. Food is out of this world. It's not just a meal, it's an experience."
