A word from Bent
Superstar chef Susur Lee designed the menu and still oversees the kitchen but hands over the reins to his sons Kai & Levi Bent-Lee. In this up and coming Dundas west neighborhood the boys have chosen a laid back vibe emphasis on great food and imaginative drinks. The decor also a family affair designed by the boys mother Brenda Bent and her partner Karen Gable.
Critics agree Susur Lee has done it again! Favorites include Tuna and Watermelon Ceviche, Chicken Dumplings, Slow Braised Five Spice Short Ribs, Kale and Tofu Salad, a decidedly Asian flare with house brewed sake. A lively environment with great service

  • "First dish, the duck confit egg roll was 5 stars. It was my first experience with Susur's food and given his fame I expected the following courses to at least come close to the first, but honestly the other 4 courses were just 3 stars at the most. Disappointing."

  • "First time here, I would definitely recommend. The dishes were all unique but not intimidating. All the dishes were really good and flavourful. There wasn't one stand out dish, they were all equally good-we had the tuna ceviche, chicken dumplings, short ribs, kale salad, lobster tacos & signature dessert. We sat on the patio so the atmosphere was relaxed."

  • "The food was excellent. Interesting flavours and textures expertly prepared and presented. The service was mediocre. There were some simple mistakes: we were asked twice in a row if we wanted drinks; had to find the waiter to order a drink after sending them away for a few minutes to decide; the last dish before desert took too long to appear. There was also one mild disappointment: the wait staff were informed of a birthday and did nothing about it -- just a candle in one of the deserts we ordered would have been nice. I'd definitely go back for the food."

  • "We loved it!In 4 people with one bottle of red wine and one of sparkling and about 10 dishes - we paid 335 including tax and before tips - so not bad at all -about the same you would spend at Keg-plus, instead of a large piece of meat,potatoes,salad, you get to try a few outstanding dishes. The portions are small- designed this way,you can experience a few of them,I loved this. Our favorites were the Peruvian ceviche and the duck rolls - but you may have other favorite. The waiters were very attentive and kept on filling up our glasses whenever they noticed they were half empty. I admit, not for everyone, if you are the meat and potato type, don't bother. Also, keep in mind, prices are higher, however, quality of food is higher, too."

We even ended up ordering the dessert twice because the first time so was delicious. Go to Bent. Service is amazing. Food is out of this world. It's not just a meal, it's an experience."

  • "I felt like I was in New York! What an atmosphere! Loved the terrace, and the inside of the restaurant was great as well - extremely trendy. The food was excellent as well. I found the service a touch slow, but it did not ruin our experience. I will definitely go back!"

  • "Every time I've made a reservation at Bent my group and I have had to wait between 25 and 45 minutes AFTER our reservation time to be seated. This latest reservation the excessive wait was unacceptable. They made no offer of drinks or anything to keep us happy while we waited."

  • "Disgusting service. Grossly over priced. I asked the waiter to ensure that the dishes did not arrive at the table together. Twenty minutes later the Sashimi Tasting had not arrived. The server kept coming by the table saying "soon" and "it was coming". It was a cold dish. Six pieces of fish on ice. It took 30 minutes to arrive at the table. The second dish, also cold, took another 25 minutes to arrive at the table.... After waiting 25 minutes for the Chicken Dumpling we asked for a manager. After five minutes a manager showed up. By this time my patience was exhausted. We asked for the bill as we were leaving. His comment was "We're overwhelmed tonight." We left."

  • "We celebrated out wedding anniversary at Bent. The good and service were spectacular however the ambience needs work. The tables are pretty much on top of each other and the noise level was way too loud(felt like I was yelling a few times). We waited for a while for our food (the neighbour table had ordered after us and got their food before us) and then it felt like everything came at once, leaving us with dishes practically I our laps. The special touch they did for our anniversary was very thoughtful."

  • "We did the $85 tasting menu and it was amazing... The lobster tacos were out of this world and every dish was better or equal to the last. We were happy to be inside and enjoy a more intimate dinner but look forward to experiencing the fun energetic outdoor area. Our waitress was such a sweetheart we will request her section in the future."

  • "I was a bit disappointed in the quality and portions for the price. The food was good but not great to justify paying $50 per person. For example, I ordered one of the shashimi dishes that came with watermelon. I ended up getting 2 pieces of shashimi and 10 pieces of watermelon in the dish. I ordered 4 dishes between two people and was still not full. I would not come back here but it was a good experience to try it once. The place was also empty on a Wednesday night. My suggestion to the owners is you have to re-assess your pricing strategy because there are many great restaurants out there that off much higher quality and greater portions for a better price. "

  • "This is obviously a trendy restaurant but the noise level inside was unbearable. Should have gone for the outside patio. The tables in the restaurant were small and it made food placement a bit awkward because they bring the entire Bento Box at once. I have eaten at other Susur restaurants, such as Lotus and Susur's. Both of those restaurants were outstanding. The price point here was significantly lower than the other two. So you do get what you pay for. There were a lot of interesting items on the menu. I got lazy and ordered the Bento Box, plus lobster taco's and fried chicken dumplings. Lobster taco's weren't bad but not spicy enough for my taste. I've had better dumplings at PF Chang's. Nice place but far from outstanding. "

  • "The food was delicious, but I can't say it was a pleasant and relaxing experience. Our server seemed nervous, and was unable to raise her voice for us to hear her adequately. Whenever food arrived, the server rattled off a high-speed description, way too fast for us to absorb. And obviously they had learned the information by rote rather than understanding what they were saying... because as soon as we asked a question they said "Sorry, I don't know, I'm new here." There was even one very awkward moment when one server was trying to help us choose a bottle of sake when other servers arrived with food and started describing it, requiring us to divide our attention between multiple people talking at us! Unable to relax and enjoy ourselves."

  • "Our meal was wonderful. We had the bento box -great for sharing and allows you to experience the amazing ability of how Susur lee combines ingredients to create bliss for your taste buds! Service was good, explaining many of the dishes as they came out. Very noisy... Hard to hear voices of waiter and on company at times but I think that is due to small size of restaurant. Don't pass up the desserts...plain heavenly. Added bonus of see Susur there "

  • "Dinner at Bent was quite enjoyable except the noise level really is too hard - we had a later reservation (8:30 pm) so the crowd thinned out as our dinner progressed and we could converse more easily at the end of the night. The food and service were excellent. We especially enjoyed the lobster tacos, jerk quail and trifle dessert."

  • "Dined late last Saturday night. Server was wonderful. Explained the menu completely and his suggestions were spot on. Had the special Bento Box as the main course and it was perfect for two. Also took the recommendation to add a few items to the meal and we both left full and happy. Drinks were mixed properly and delivered promptly. Staff was also attentive at the end of the night to help us with tracking down a cab. We were in town on business, knew of Bent, and were very happy with the choice we made. My friend is one with a very good understanding of a quality dining experience and we both didn't want the dinner to end!"

  • "Went out for a special dinner - to celebrate birthday with friends. Food was wonderful - love the tune watermelon seviche an the scallops were amazing. Only issue was that as the eveninig became later, the noise level made conversation very difficult (not a problem when we arrived at 6:30 but quite noisy when we left around 8:30). Service was wonderful and the pacing of the dishes worked perfectly."

  • "I came with my husband and my in-laws to celebrate a birthday. We all had the chef's menu - they were very accommodating to my dietary restrictions (vegetarian), bringing a separate vegetarian dish for me when the others had meat, and gave most of the shared dishes a vegetarian slant. The courses were spaced out perfectly, our server was fantastic, and the food was incredible. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely go back! "

  • "Being a big fan of Susur Lee, I had high expectations for Bent Restaurant. Service was a little slow but staff very nice. Food was good but didn't blow our mind. Caviar lobster vodka shooter was super cool to look at and delicious! So were the gnocchi/scallop special and the braised beef...so tender and full of flavour. But the lobster tacos and featured ceviche were bland and lacked the variety of bold flavours the other dishes had. Also a little pricey considering the quality of some of the dishes was simply good. Not a bad experience overall but wouldn't rush to eat there again when there are so many awesome places to eat in Toronto. "

  • "This family sharing style restaurant is everything you could want. Vibrant, fun, great drinks and great food. Everything is packed with so much flavor and all the dishes come out looking amazing! Make sure to make a reservation because it's a small place and it gets packed quickly. Make sure to order the spicy tuna watermelon ceviche as it will blow you away! Will definitely be heading back!! "

  • "Susar and the sprouts go for more, and it is good. twisting their usual Singaporean/Malay/Chinese/western goodies with one more knot, the Lees have done it again! food was all prepared wonderfully, came timed and spaced out nicely and our server was attentive. only thought is to think loud as the room levels are up a notch due to hard surfaced brick walls and lots of glass every table in the place had a great vibe and was there for a good time and it spills over, but not obtrusively. Going back in for more soon!"

  • "Presentation of food at Bent is great but, unfortunately, the taste is not. We shared 7 dishes ranging from the lobster tacos to sashimi taster to the short ribs and every time we had a similar moment of excitement upon the arrival of the food which then followed by disappointment once we bit into it. As a result, in a city with so many amazing restaurants, there is no reason to visit this one."
