Benoit Restaurant and Barjust delightedIt was our anniversary, and yet we wanted something easy going and unpretentious and were extremely pleased with Benoit. It met both criteria and exceeded them. We thouroughly enjoyed our meal and our overall dining experience.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMTop 10I have been to hundreds of restaurants in NYC. This restaurant combines an uncomplicated menu, with extraordinary quality food, excellent service and involved management. In a day when restaurants turn their business over to kids, Benoit has a mature, professional staff and a Maitre d' - Lamine - who is personable, professional and insures that all goes smoothly and the guests are happy. The evening was flawless. Highly recommended.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and serviceFoods in this restaurant is always reliable and good. If we do not have any specific dinner plan, this restaurant provides always satisfactory last resort.
The services had been exceptionally good in the past. However, this time it was a little disappointment. All services were not coordinated and spotty. A bus boy took bread away after our appetizer. We wanted bread with our main course and asked water for more bread and they ignored us completely. We were so disappointed and abandoned the bread request.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, ambience, old school NYGreat place - very old decor dating back to 1912. Not a hipster kind of place but if you like "old school" NY ambience reminiscent of a Parision wine bar this is the place. Extensive wine list - good value in their house wine as well as high end. I took my wide and next time I will bring my wife and 12 year old daughter. Not a place for little kids but middle schoolers would be fine.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant never failsThis restaurant never fails to please. Excellen food and the service was especailly good this time. Could't be bertter.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent! We have been to Benoit a few times for lunch and dinner, including the Paris location, and have never been disappointed. The food is delicious and well prepared and the service is excellent. Great place for a client lunch/dinner as it is not noisy, as well as a special occasion. Would definitely recommend!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMIs and always will be my favoriteIs and always will be my favorite French bistro in NYC. The only one I like more is Alain Ducasse's Mixx in Las Vegas.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMMy Birthday DinnerMe and my husband were celebrate my birthday on May 25th. Excellent!!!!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful and delightfulA wonderful and delightful find In the midst of a busy street with many choices. I plan to return again and again. Truly a lovely dining experience.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect in every wayWe booked with Open Table ( from Australia) before heading off to New York.
We had also booked tickets for the theatre. (Same evening)
The food and service was second to none.
We didn't feel rushed or that we were missing out on any of the gorgeous experience by having limited time.
The ambience was truly supurb and the food absolutely wonderful.
That eveing was our best night in New York5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMA pleasant surpriseI had never been to this restaurant before, and it was a delightful discovery. The food was delicious, the service attentive, and the ambience was charming. My only criticism is the bread. For a French bistro, the dryness and ordinary test of the bread served at the table was disappointing. Otherwise it was great.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat little GemNeeded restaurant before Carnigie Hall event. Made arrangements before arriving to let them know about timing. Very accomodating. Food was fabulous for such a Mom/Pop set up. Service was great and the staff was very attentive. Would recommend. Great ambiance. We were eating early (5:30pm), people didn't start to arrive until 6:30pm, so conversations were limited.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBenoit is always fun and dependableBenoit is always fun and dependable - glad they have added oysters to the menu.
Cozy and comfortable as always.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFinally good classic French foodA good French restaurant, it is all about the flavors of the ingredients, simple but great taste and flavors. The pastries are the real deal, reminded me home. The Paris Brest was great!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMmy 6th time and always deliciousanother perfect evening thanks to the very friendly and competent staff, managed with smoothness by Nicolas the Maitre d'
who recommended us with a great choice of wine
we will come back with more friends to make them discover what proper French classic cooking is about
A bientot et un grand merci
Daniel5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day BrunchThis was my second time eating at Benoit and it was just as good as my first. I brought my family this time and the staff was so kind to my one child who just did not want to sit. Our waitress came over and gave him a cookie, pencil and paper to draw with. She even wiped a tear from his face. As for the food it was great my wife ordered an omelet which came withen 5 minutes of ordering. It was so fluffy and she really enjoyed it. I on the other hand had the unlimted dessert which made me look like an animal but I didnt care. The waitress brought over three plates with the 6 tarts all wonderful. My favorite was the St Honore but again all were very good. I will be going back next week with my co workers for lunch.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and good serviceWe had a very nice waiter (from the south of France), who was efficient, friendly and attentive. I appreciate this in a French restaurant.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Enjoyable MealFood was great from top to bottom. Service good and timely. Wine list deep with a few values available. Wonderful experience.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious BistroMy daughter and I ordered from the pre-theater menu, which had great choices and was a good deal. Delicious mussels, and the frites are not to be missed! Our service started off great (the restaurant was quite empty when we arrived) but was lacking as the evening went on. Some nice touches though. I would definitely go back!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA welcome midtown additionHas reignited classic dining in the 50s midtown. service and food are very good. great for business lunch.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLike you are in ParisExcellent brasserie style.chicken for 2 with frites superb.. Great for lunch. Small plates ..salads5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMParis in New YorkMy husband and I love this restaurant. It is a typical French Bistro (though high end) that one would find in Paris. In fact, we frequent Paris often and the Benoit there which drew us to this Alain Ducasse Benoit in NY. We are always welcomed and treated as special guests and feel genuine pleasure when we arrive.
The food is very good and has classic French bistro dishes like Cassoulet (my husband's favourite). wonderful roast chicken, coq au vin, nice fish choices, and a wonderful tart tatin. Occasionally they have special evening events, and serve, for example, suckling pig or some other speciality. The wine list has a good selection. It can be noisy on very busy nights, but it has good atmosphere4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMLe Cochon c'est bonMy husband and I had the roast pig served with a fabulous sauce and a bottle of 2010 Coteaux du Languedoc recommended by our sommelier. It was pure theater. Waiters dressed in black and white presented whole roasts on silver trollies. They moved around the restaurant and some folk even took photos! The meat was moist and delicious and the wine was a perfect paring with the pork. CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK. The experience gave us a "French boost" to hold us until we can return to Paris.
Brindlehawk4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner with fine foodGreat dinner with fine food and very attentive service.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food (fresh, hot, clean,Great food (fresh, hot, clean, tasty, not too salty); great service; great value for the pre-theater prix fixe dinner.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMTres francaise. Tres bien.Great authentic French bistro style and ambiance. Tasty menu. Terrific pretheater restaurant. Reasonable NYC prices. We would go again.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMHave eaten here several times.Have eaten here several times. Food was particularly good this time. Affordable prix fix.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food / Low Class CrowdWe went for the suckling pig dinner.
The couple next to us had the same, they came perhaps 20 mins earlier and were from France and seemed to know the staff.
They got a wonderful succulent looking portion. They kept wheeling the cart with the pig around, when we got our portion it tasted a little dry and re heated, but was ok/good.
The appetizer of the small cheese souffle was terrific. The desert was really good.
The worst part of our experience were the fellow diners who arrived after us. There were tourists snapping pictures of food, and another table of people with the the worst table manners I have ever seen. It seems to me that real New Yorkers have abondoned this restaurant. I used to love this place.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, good sceneFood and wine were great. Had a drink first at the bar - bartender very attentive and friendly. Then we sat for dinner. Food & wine very good. The service we had, although friendly, was a bit spotty. The order of the food and who ordered what seemed to get very confused. And there was difficulty getting drink & water refills timely.
But I will be back to try again!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional serviceI had a large party and they were so accommodating: allowing me to adjust the number in my reservation, seating people as they arrived instead of making us wait for a complete party, splitting the check, and offering a high chair for the child. The food was perfectly executed, beautifully presented and delicious. They had me at dessert bar.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA little piece of Paris inA little piece of Paris in Manhattan. Very authentic, great service.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a terrific lunch, preceededWe had a terrific lunch, preceeded by terrific Martinis.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful bistro food, greatWonderful bistro food, great service, very helpful sommelier, a truly delightful evening. We will be very happy indeed to go back! Much better food than the Terence McNally bistros, which I like, but not so much for the food. I had the cassoulet, which was large and truly delicious, and the cheese souffle starter, which was both decadent and light at the same time. In fact, the cassoulet was the best I've had anywhere.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMI go there as often as I can!Being French, I find all my favorite food at Benoit's. Great place to go, over and over again.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful waiters qui parlentWonderful waiters qui parlent francais. This is an authentic French bistro with great choices that made me long for Paris.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMaybe the best/most authenticMaybe the best/most authentic Bistro in NYC. Both French and American friends always find this restaurant a gem. Food is truly authentic and superb. Service is polite and polished without being effusive, in a word, French.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service and food are bothThe service and food are both outstanding. Really enjoy everything about the restaurant.
I've been back a number of time.
Just want to mention one thing: the decaf coffee was terrible. I have always ordered it before and it was fine. On Monday night, it was weak--like terrible diner coffee. I asked for a fresh cup. This time it had the awful taste of coffee grounds. As I said, this has NOT happened on my other visits. A good cup of coffee is the perfect end to a delicious meal. Please do something about this.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband & I ate at BenoitMy husband & I ate at Benoit for our first time last Saturday. The restaurant is very pretty and the service is top notch. The food was excellent but the portions were small. My husband still felt hungry after finishing his meal.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and atmosphere wereThe food and atmosphere were excellent, and the portions--especially the soup starter--on the prix-fixe were large. We'd like more choices at reasonable price ($20-$30), however, on the a la carte entree menu.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe came to Benoit RestaurantWe came to Benoit Restaurant for a fix-price dinner before going to the theater. Food was awesome!!! Service was excellent and fast!!! Would definitely come back and recommend this place.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, with CommentsWe really enjoy Benoit, and our experience was excellent. Our table was wonderful, and our appetizers (mine a cheese souffle) and entrees (a skirt steak and asparagus) were excellent. My only reservation was the dessert, a rhubarb tart that was gelatinous--a surprise, but the crust was delicious.
I really enjoy Benoit and I look forward to dining there again.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a pleasure and wonderfulAlways a pleasure and wonderful meal! Nice wine list by the glass or the carafe.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I loved everythingMy husband and I loved everything about the place but withheld one star for service as the sommelier neglected to properly advise us that our wine was available by the carafe as well as by the bottle, thereby adding an additional $17.00 to the bill.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a wonderful lunch withHad a wonderful lunch with great service. Look forward to coming again3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMHad the roasted chicken forHad the roasted chicken for two and it was done to perfection. Three can easily share it.
