Benoit New York is the third member of Alain Ducasse’s Benoit family – which also includes the bistro in Paris since 1912, Benoit Tokyo and Le Comptoir de Benoit in Osaka. The skate wing was cooked to perfection, and the anise bulbs were sweet and tender. Hubby ordered from the regular menu. The staff recommended an heirloom tomato salad. It was simply but grand! The calf liver was wonderful. We shared the dessert (peach crumbles) from the 3-course menu, and it was great! And yes, the cheese puffs were so good that I had to take them to go. A delightful lunch. We'll definitely return next time we're in NYC."

  • "We hadn't been to Benoit in a while, but were pleasantly surprised to find that the quality of its classic French menu and ambiance was still intact. The roasted chicken tastes like there is a French grandmother in the kitchen; the French fries are perfect, and both the hors d'oeuvres and appetizer courses give variety to the menu. The fish aoili was very good, however, the portion was small. Desserts are excellent and the wine list offers choices that represent the regions of France, many priced very reasonably. Service, needless to say, is impeccable under the watch of Lamine."

I had put a note on the reservation that it was a special occasion. Not only did they bring over a delicious chocolate cake with a candle, but the poured us all a glass of champagne as well.   • "I was very disappointed with my experience at Benoit. The restaurant seemed more fit for the tourist/theater crowd than the local New Yorker who knows good food. The ambience was horrible and only filled with tourists and the food and service were equally dull. After our dinner came out very late, the waiter tried to make it up for us with some macaroons. I am a huge fan of macaroons but Benoit's version tasted like they were made the week earlier and stored in a refrigerator. All in all my experience was disappointing and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants good French food."

  • "Walked past Benoit's on a visit to NY in 2010. Made a mental note. Went on line a couple of weeks ago when I noticed it would be Mothers Day when I wanted to have lunch on 11 May. So booked a table for two. The website is great for booking - very efficient and flexible. It was very busy at 12:00 but great atmosphere. Service was outstanding - so efficient and "sympatique" and the food was as expected - PERFECT! So next time we visit NY (from Aberdeen, Scotland) we will back (for dinner next time)."

  • "I booked Benoit as a special surprise for my wife's 30th birthday last weekend, as it was her first time in New York and I was looking for somewhere special for a brunch, some cake and champagne. When we first arrived the maitre d just ignored us and was aloof and grumpy when she finally did acknowledge our existence, despite us waiting patiently and having a reservation. We should have walked away then. The brunch and especially the deserts were superb but the whole date was ruined by the staff, who treated us like we shouldn't be there, weren't good enough for the cafe, and were quite unfriendly, aloof, and inattentive. It completely ruined a date that I had planned for 6 months, - thanks Benoit, we won't be rushing back!"
