The food was fantastic -- portions were much larger than I expected, and prepared perfectly. Great service, attentive but not hovering, timely -- and they knew not to rush the table where people we're eating at different speeds! Cannot wait to go back

I have gone many times and it's always great. Love the foie de veau, crenelles, the foie gras is to die and the leek tart appetizer is heaven. All the traditional dishes are at their best here. There is a great bar area before the restaurant that is cozy and elegant, and you can get something to eat during the day there if it's off lunch time, which is good to know in that location. You can actually get real French drinks like Pastis, Pernaud. Service is good and not overwhelming. The room is animated but the sound somehow is controlled, you can actually talk to everyone on the table without getting hoarse from the competition of those annoying screeching diners that fill other restaurants but are thankfully absent here.

We stopped being impressed with Benoit after the appetizers. The gougeres were delicious, as was the butternut squash soup and cheese souffle. After that, the entrees were a let down; the hanger steak and the pomme frite were ok, the duck breast was nothing special, the dessert just ok, and the coffee was weak. Next time, we'll chose another restaurant.

I love the atmosphere of this restaurant. It is like a European bistro, but without the attitude. It is definitely a place to go if you like classic French dishes. To start we had seasonal appetizers, risotto with white truffles and Florida crab claws. Both were good, but the real stars were the main courses, steamed sea bream for my wife and foie gras stuffed quail for me. They were both delicious. To top it off we had an unbelievable tarte tatin for dessert. Note that they say it is for 2 people but it is enough for 4! Service was friendly and efficient. The sommelier recommended a reasonably price white Cote du Rhone that went well with all of our dishes. It is something that we would never have considered if left to choose ourselves.

Benoit is like its Paris counterpart on West 55th in Manhattan. The decor, the food, the wine, the service are tops. The host and hostess were very welcoming (not very much like in Paris). We had a charcuterie platter to start, my wife had cod and I had a Cobb salad, all very generous portions and delicious. Interesting white wine, a viognier blend, and perfect with the food. Fresh bread. All in all, a really great treat.

Benoit used to be a fair place to eat, now is one of the worse choices in NYC. It's a commercial place, only for profits. It's far from acceptable their watery soaps, their terrible Steak au Poivre, the fish tasteless, a terrible place to eat.

We picked it for a pre-theatre dinner. It was my second time in this restaurant. The first time made a much better impression, that's why I decided to return. Now I deeply regret that we didn't pick another place, and there're so many to choose from in the area. My fish was undercooked, I had to send it back, only had the same pieces heated up to the edible temperature. I thought for the high level of the restaurant, I would get a new meal cooked to perfection. Regardless of this mishap, what you get is a tiny amount of very average food for a lot of money. If not for a good service, this dinner would have been a complete fiasco. Both, my friend and I have decided that we'd not be coming back.

never had dinner here always lunch after a local haircut. Elegant, very French bistro. Much nicer than the Paris Benoit. Also less expensive. Prix fixed menus for lunch quite reasonable. Snails with a glass of sancerre, scallops with trumpet mushrooms. Service friendly and professional. Probably good for a first date.

This restaurant is the perfect blend of French Haute Cuisine and bistro food. We started with the pate en croute, which was very good. I loved the pistachios, but my husband prefers smooth, mousse-like pates. He was pleased, therefore, with his pate-stuffed roasted quail. My coq au vin was the best I've ever eaten. Both dishes included roasted vegetables that were unusually tender and flavorful. The wine list was excellent. The only weak spot was the dessert: a pecan tart that seemed dry. The pastry crust had a nice vanilla flavor, however, and the pecans were plentiful and fresh. The prices are reasonable considering the quality. I highly recommend Benoit.

The first sign that things were amiss was the bread--not soft and fresh but reheated and cold. The cassoulet was disappointing; most of the meats were only lard. The wines by the glass included some decent selections. But with so many good bistros in Manhattan, there would appear to be no reason to dine here even though the service was attentive.

The homemade bread and pastries here are to die for, as are the freshly chef-prepared classic French favorites. I had the escargot, pate de campagne (from a recipe from the 1800's), and the duck. Hubby stayed the course with salad, a hangar steak frites and dessert. Amazing and worth every penny. You won't leave hungry.

I rate it good because we had very good experience before. They have raised the prices. We went for Lunch on Sunday and on the website, it was stated that they have Price fixed Menu. When we arrived for the Lunch, found that they were serving only Brunch and no price fixed menu. Salads were average, especially Lobster Salad had very few pieces of Lobster in it. On the other had, Beef Tartare and Escargot were excellent. Very good Chocolate Mousse. Overall, I would have rated it only average this time, but for ambience and good service, I rate it Good.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Benoit's is truly like eating in a great brasserie in Paris or Lyon both some of our favorite places to dine. Many of the items on the menu are truly classics and were exceedingly well prepared and served. The service was attentive without being invasive and the atmosphere was delightful. The whole experience was great and we will return when again in NYC.

It took a little while for Benoit to find its footing, but for the last few years under the toque and tutelage of Chef Philippe, it's been firing on all cylinders as a seriously solid choice for classic bistro fare. It would be difficult to find more gracious hosts than managers Lameen and Antoine; and the efficient, mostly French staff offer friendly but unobtrusive service. Not to be missed: the salty, garlicky roast chicken for two; a heavenly calf's liver (so difficult to find in NYC, and even more difficult to find executed properly); and an excellent brunch menu featuring a fat, juicy burger which gives "21" a Gallic run for its money, plus its legendary "dessert bar," featuring some of the best French pastries this side of Paris.

The look of it is one with a bit of nolstagic touch, but the service kept pace with the by-gone era's attentiveness, both our waiting staff and MD were extraordinarily courteous, and professional. My husband said the tart flambee was one that he found closest in resemblence to the authentic Alsacian style (who is to debate with him as he lived in Alsace for some time), and my leek appetizer was refreshing and the confluence of tastes well constructed. For main, I rather enjoyed my skate wing, with squash shaved as thin as proud Italian pasta, and he liked his artisanal shrimp pasta dish dearly. Fantastic experience, complete with "madam, a little something to take away".

We loved Benoit in Paris. We were excited to find the sister restaurant in New York. The New York restaurant has the same ambiance. We were in town for the US Open. We understand that Tsonga (one of the top players from France) had dinner at Benoit every night that he was in town. He wanted a "home" experience and found it here. We'd strongly recommend Benoit.

We loved the food and the atmosphere was very good. Our only concern was that as soon as we were finishing one course, they were rushing to pick up our plates. After one course, they picked up my plate even before my last bite had made it to my mouth. It definitely put a damper on the meal. And it was mid-afternoon, not a busy time for them! However we would go back, because they serve the best hanger steak EVER, and we'll hope for a different level of service.

After arrived in NYC I have tried to book a table at several grand maisons but not possible. This place was quite easy to book. Food we have ordered were really bistro like and so as the atmosphere and the how the tables are placed. The appetizer of 3kinds for the table was amuse bouche like volume but all the other plates, the volume were also bistro like, which means quite big. You can not find Bistronomy like twist and presentation but more authentic dishes. Wine list did not have many pages but very attractive for wine lovers. We have started off with the glass of Blanquette de Limoux and the bottle I have picked was Henri Jayer Vosne-Romanee '90 which was in excellent condition.
