Our waiter, Nick, was hands-down one of the best servers we've ever had. Very energetic about the food, very helpful in suggesting apps. and dessert. He made the experience truly a memorable one."

  • "Server was very personal and helpful without being too intrusive. My steak (NY strip rare) steak was cooked perfectly. The server even offered an option between medium rare and rare - a "rare plus". The sides were delicious as well - mashed potatoes were fluffy without being overly buttery and the mushrooms were salted very well. Many steakhouses have sides that are quite rich (super creamy mashed potatoes, creamed spinach) and are very good by themselves, but are too heavy when served alongside steak. I will be coming back to this establishment."

  • "Reserved a table for dinner after Motown matinee. Extremely knowledgeable waiter explained extensive wine list and unique menu options. He definitely contributed to our memorable dining experience at Benny's! Appetizers (crab cake, oysters) quite tasty and well-presented. Entrees (filet, lobster risotto, rib-eye, and red grouper) prepared exactly as we requested, and each salad was enough for two! The Texas-sized baked potatoes came with a lazy Susan of toppings, and the bobbly bread basket was as fun to use as it was delicious! The piece de resistance, the S'mores pie, drew us to this spot originally, and it did not disappoint. From its creative presentation to the multiple flavors developed, it was the star of the evening. Bravo!"

  • "Best steak (and meal) I've had in the city in a long time - better than Mastros, Gibsons, Chop House, etc. Really surprised at how good all of the food was. Desserts were out of this world. I assumed the steak all the top streakhouses were the same but have found the new winner. Great service and wines, too."

  • "From the start we were greeted by Mitchell who shared with us the herb garden that flanked the front door. We were seated immediately and were greeted by our server Irwin. We were made to feel as if we were long time customers. Every person we met during the course of our meal excelled. Highly highly ( did I say highly ) recommended for any occasion. Just get there!"

  • "The best part of the meal was the steak itself. All six guests ordered a different cut and they were all absolutely delicious. I had the lip on ribeye and the lip really give a rich flavor to the beef. The lobster bisque was just ok and the server screwed up all our side dishes. She corrected her mistakes but we had to wait until we were halfway done with our food before getting side dishes. Also, they are trying to stuff way to many tables in that dining room and I could not hear what people were saying at my own table due to noise. And my cocktail (the cross town classic) was disappointing."

  • "Our previous experience with Benny's has been outstanding. This time was disappointing from the start. The wait staff assigned to us were busy and distracted. We were seated and given all the menus then waited 20 minutes before we could order drinks. The waitress struck a nerve with me when she called me "young lady." I'm 63, come on! After being served, we did not see our server for quite a while so we could not tell her my husband did not like his food. My husband ordered grouper which was a mistake because we all know not to order seafood in a steakhouse. To the server and restaurant's credit, they did try to make amends. Appreciated but we would have preferred good food and service."

  • "We enjoyed Benny's with another couple as we celebrated our anniversary. Steaks were all great and cooked to order. Good wine but it took us a while to find a good one at a reasonable price. Service was excellent and well-timed. We did not feel rushed. Only negative was that it was very noisy."

  • "Based on independent local food critics, Benny's rates about 3rd on the list of the great steakhouses in Chicago. A glass of club soda, a dry aged "16oz" ribeye, a side salad and a baked potato cost me over $100 with a moderate tip. For this rating and price, I expect exceptional. The dry aged ribeye was just OK. It was not thick cut and tended to be dry in the center. The pre-cooked weight was likely under 16oz. The baked potato was under-cooked and only warm when it arrived at my table. I have had much better at many other restaurants for far less money. Morton's and The Capital Grill come to mind and there are others that could meet the quality easily. Go here for a nice group experience if you can afford it, but not for the food."

  • "In a city with a number of fine restaurants and steak houses, Benny's gets high marks. The pate' starter was wonderful!. The seafood tower was what one would expect & it consisted of large (collosal?) shrimp, a full lobster, & Alaskan crab. However, it seemed over priced. The steaks were delicious. Sides were ala carte, and they too were very tasty & served family style. The rich wood atmosphere was enjoyable, but the noise level was on the high side until tables began to clear. All in all, the service was excellent, & it was an enjoyable experience, although the prices are expensive. However, on a Tuesday evening the restaurant was filled."

  • "My wife and I had a great experience as Benny's! We started off with the carb cake and bacon. DELICIOUS! Our main course was Benny's 7 oz. filet and 16 oz bone in ribeye. Cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth. Our sides were the lobster mac n cheese and mushrooms. Great compliments to our steaks. For dessert we ordered the banana creme pie and chocalte pudding with almond ice cream. We had a great experience. We are definitely going to make it back! Thanks Benny's!"

Every course we had was excellent- highly recommend the grilled Caesar, Wagyu filet, and the blue cheese croquettes were amazing (too bad I had to eat them alone!)   • "Took an important client from overseas here for lunch - he'd requested another steak place we couldn't get into. My assistant scrambled to book, and had found a Chicago mag ranking of steakhouses - Bennys was actually above Mortons. All I can say is that that writer must've padded their bank acct w/ a kickback from Benny's. Great staff, but there was no one (zero) people in there, a bit embarassing, and the menu was shockingly limited. The food was OK."

Service was attentive, and frequent - a little too "advisory" for me, but all advice taken turned out to be validated. Atmosphere is classic Chicago Steakhouse, really good place for a business dinner - active room, but not too loud."

  • "I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and we were looking forward to this meal. We were told when we got there that they were all about steaks and that's the go to item on the menu. We had been to a steakhouse a few days before so we decided to split a steak and the lamb chops. The lamb chops were decent but the dry aged ribeye (which I love from just about everywhere) was rubbery and didn't have much taste at all. I was very disappointed because our server was great and I really wanted to like this place. Maybe the seafood is better but I do not recommend this to anyone looking for a good piece of meat."

  • "My husband and I came to Benny's for our wedding anniversary dinner and it was top notch! We did a lot of research into different steak houses to attend and came across this one, we were not let down. The food was by far some of the best we've ever had and we were treated very well. The wine list was extensive and the sommelier was very knowledgeable and very helpful. Our waiter, Carl, was fantastic and the service was perfect. We couldn't say enough good things about this restaurant and look forward to going back someday soon!"

  • "Amazing traditional steakhouse with a modern twist. Food was impeccable, exceeded only by the service. We were visiting, and are familiar with many NYC restaurants of a similar ilk, but I'd choose Benny's any day over those! Meat was silky good, sides were great ( don't miss the blue cheese croquettes) and that mountain of carrot cake a perfect ending. Bravo, Benny's!"

  • "Can't say enough about the service and food at Benny's. Constant attention was paid to our table by all levels of staff. Even better, each course was well prepared, flavorful and cooked to perfection. Oysters were fresh and properly shucked. Appetizers were tasty and ample in size. We had the dry aged steaks and seafood items and had no complaint on any front. And yeah, try the bacon, it really is worth the cholesterol."

  • "We have gone to Bennie's on a number of occasions and always had a wonderful time, whether just the two of us or with company. The service is always excellent, and we are made to feel special. There is always something interesting, whether it was pork belly on one of our last visits or morrel mushrooms this time. This remains one of our favorites and "steadies" in Chicago. And, the wine list is exceptional. If you don't see what you want--or don't know what to order, or would like some suggestions--just ask. And don't let the prices scare you. There is something available you will like, no matter your price point."
