Excellent sports bar, but you don't have to be the sports bar type to enjoy it. Nice amount of choices for whatever type of food you like, including seafood which I had. Also, we couldn't believe how quickly we received our food!

I'll recommened the Hawaiian Butterfish - it was very fresh and tasty. However, it was on the daily special, so don't think, you can get it on the regular menu. the oysters were tiny, but otherwise: the seasoned fries and calamari were great.

Lots of sports-bar noise in the bar area which is not well separated from dining, but we were OK with some football while eating. Dining area is spacious, so plenty of tables further from the bar are available so it's accommodating to any preference. Overall we liked it a lot.

Our visit was average - restaurant is noisy, due to the bar music being played. The food was good, except for my baked potato, which had a metalic taste to it (I should have sent it back, but just chose not to eat it)- probably due to sitting in tin foil for too long. My 'sangria' was wine mixed with something else, with canned fruit added, not true sangria - disappointing. Service was good.

We were driving from Bala Cynwyd and it turned out to be about 15 miles, so our expectations grew along with the miles. Nice looking place, little noisy. Out server was good. Salads were very nice. My husband's crab with liguine in a white sauce was "tasteless". My tilapia, shrimp and scallops was very nice. Side veggies good also, broccoli cooked nicely, but crisp :). They do not allow access to the specials menu if you are using a coupon.

I used to love Benny the Bums. The She Crab soup was to die for. I went with a Girls' Night Out this summer and was very dissappointed. I really wanted to give it another try. It was bad. Soup was okay ... not what it used to be. We had a table of six. At my suggestion, we all had the soup - some had Crab and others had Clam Chowder. All of us said it was good but not great. We ordered salads and sandwiches. Sandwiches were just okay. Salads were bad -- wilted lettace and ho hum presentation. Service??? Bus boys were 100% attentive. Waitress was awful. She didn't have the time of day for us. I tried to get her attention for additional napkins and she was too busy chit chatting to bother even looking at her table. Never again!

I've been here for drinks many times, but never for dinner. What a nice surprise! Our waitress was excellent. She timed each entree perfectly and wasn't overbearing. We had everything from the appetizers to dessert and definitely enjoyed it all. If you are in the mood for seafood, but not looking to spend a lot of money, then Benny's is the place to be. I've definitely had better seafood, but can honestly say that I would have no reservations about eating dinner here again. I loved the idea that each booth had it's own television which allowed us to watch the 76ers play without twisting and turning our bodies to see the televisions in the bar area. Oh and by the way....The brownie waffle dessert was insanely good!

The food got mixed reviews from our large party. The seafood is excellent. The appetizers and the salads were good. The pasta was overcooked, and their sauces were boring, which is a really big deal in our family. We liked the atmosphere and the service. Stick with the seafood and you will like it here.

When we arrived, manager tried to seat us in booth for four, then acted surprised when we pointed out it would barely fit four.We waited 45 minutes, only to be seated in a table suitable for 12, while they actually seated two parties in booths designed for six! Never offered an apology, didn't even offer a drink or acknowledgement. We won't be back.

Service could have been better. Had the other "off duty" servers and staff sitting right behind us. They were complaining about stuff. Server did not help out on suggestions - I've never been there before and never eaten the smaller crabs. I asked if they were shelled, and she said yes. The crabs still were in the shell when they came. Would not return.

  • This restaurant has gone downhill
    lisakayVIP
    Dined on 9/12/2011
This restaurant has gone downhill from its heyday. The hostess took a good ten minutes to seat us and no one else was there. The Caesar salad was drenched with dressing which resulted in a soggy mess. The stuffed flounder was overcooked, and had much more filler than crab meat (if any). THe broiled flounder, however, was delicious. The menu is more limited than I remember and seems like they are trying to imitate the more popular Chickie & Pete's. I don't know if I'll be back until I hear it has improved.

Normally LOVE Benny the Bums although I haven't been there for about a year. Crab Soup which is always phenmomenal was only okay. It was good but nothing to rave about. I had the Mixed Seafood Casserole which was so bland that I picked at it the entire time. We went with a party of five. One ordered the filet which was nothing to speak of .... very scrawny. The other three were happy with their meal. Overall -- a dissappointment. Hopefully, it was a bad night at Benny the Bums and it is not off our list. I will give it a try again since the history has your mouth watering!!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 5/16/2011
The food was great unfortunately it seemed as if our waitress was having a bad night and her customer service was not very good at all. Although the restaurant wasn't crowded she rarely returned to our table to inquire about any additional items we may need. When she did come to the table we had to call after her as she was walking away before we could finish informing her of what we needed. Overall, the food was great but I would never want to be seated in that server's section again.
