A word from Bennett's Chop & Railhouse
In every city, there is a natural gathering spot for city folk and neighborhood people in the know. This place in Saint Paul is know as Bennett's Chop & Railhouse. Located on West Seventh & Victoria, it is the perfect meeting place of uptown and downtown, of quiet neighborhood and big city lights.r />
It's called a chophouse because it specializes in a casual steakhouse atmosphere with top-of-the-line cuts of the finest meats. It is a Rail-house because it is on the old railroad line serving the city and rail drinks (as well as top brands) are served in the convivial atmosphere of the horseshoe bar.

And of course Bennett's is Bennett's because owners Joe and Meghan Bennett ensure that welcoming hospitality is always served. They have taken their decades of experiences with leading hospitality brands and translated it into an intimate venue where you're not only a customer, but more importantly, a welcome guest.

Diner Reviews
  • "This was our first time visiting, and we had a gift certificate. The food was excellent, especially the au gratin potatoes and the house salad dressing. We look forward to dining here again!"

  • "One of us had the walleye dinner and the other had the baby back rib dinner. Both were tasty and a great value with a delicious chopped salad, corn on the cob, and au gratin potatoes included - all for only $20! Wish we had been hungrier because the 1/2 price appetizer choices looked good. The carrot cake is outstanding. The building's exterior and small, dark entrance is not too inviting, but the food is great once you get inside."

  • "I picked out this place for my family to go and I am so glad we tried it! It is a hidden place which means that it is not too busy but still has awesome food! Even with my grandmother, who usually finds something to complain about, had nothing bad to say. The food and portions of the food were perfect! The service provided by our waiter and the support staff was spectacular. They weren't annoying but were attentive so you didn't feel forgotten. None of us felt pressured to get anything either, which is nice. I really appreciate that this place accepts reservations, especially with the group size we had. I only had one negative thing to say is that it was a little hard to hear everyone talk but it wasn't a make or break issue."

  • "Old neighboorhood joint. My wife and I had to take a friend out whose hubby was gone for a month and she needed to escape her daughter. She ordered walleye, my wife the prime rib and myself the roasted chicken. Not one of us was disappointed with our meal. Our friend enjoyed the "Gummy Bear" cocktail and my wife her Midiori and pineapple juice. All of us were very pleased with the level of service. Soup came with dinner and each of us had the asparagus and mushroom soup, very good."

  • "food and service were very good, wish they had a saturday night happy hour thats the only thing that would have made it even better"

  • "We sat outside, the patio was small but comfortable with lots of plants. I met a friend for drinks and appetizers. The bacon wrapped shrimp was awesome. Our server was attentive. We had a very enjoyable outing."

  • "Once again we left very pleased with the service (Corey is an excellent server!), great food and what a find for a Monday night! Half price bottles of wine and half price appetizers. It's a perfect Monday evening night out."

  • "Our last 2 visits have been very disappointing across the board, food and service. The last was worse then the one before...we were hoping that it was a fluke the first time as all of our previous visits were terrific"
    Dined on 7/20/2014
  • "I have been here several times and always enjoyed the food, especially the short ribs. This time the short ribs were tough, full of gristle and flavorless. I hate to see a good place decline."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "The chopped salad was the best I had ever eaten. The pot pies were beautiful to look at with the puffy crust. The crab cakes were terrible and the scallops were expensive for only having 3."

  • "Heading to a concert in St Paul, we were looking for a nice place to eat before the show. We found Bennett's on the web and were delighted that the food was excellent! I had the filet and my husband had the 22 oz ribeye! Sooo good! It has a neighborhood type atmosphere, not fancy but perfect for a date night!"

  • "I found this place by accident. We wanted to eat at a restuarant near Cosettas and could not get in until 7. I looked on line for places near by and this one came up. It had great reviews and decided to try it. We loved it. The martinis were large. The cheesy potatoes, chopped salad and steak were to die for. The chef came to our table to see how our food was. We will return and bring more of our friends. As other have said on line, from the outside it does not look like much but great atmosphere inside."

  • "The prime rib was very good. I would suggest it to anyone who enjoys good prime rib. I was disappointed they didn't accept my coupon because it was a "special event night. The restaurant runs bus trips to sports events and concerts. I was not aware of the fact they would not accept my coupon when I made the reservation. This wouldn't stop me from going back to Bennetts."

  • "the food was excellent, the house salad was extremely good. exceptional martini blends. Very pleasant waitresses. The flat iron steak was excellent. Great service"

  • "Located on West 7th Street west of downtown St. Paul this well known iconic establishment continues to serve up solid food as it has done for years and years. The tenderloin medallion "sliders" commonly referred to a "Little Charlies" are tender and juicy with onions and a little horseradish sauce to jazz them up. There is also the Trio Medley consisting of three tenderloin medallions (sans bun) with a roasted wild mushroom bleu cheese sauce on one, caramelized onions and bernaise sauce on another, and lastly, one with a horseradish sauce. other wonderful standards are the braised ribs, Cajun meatloaf and chicken pot pie. A great neighborhood bar scene filled with locals all night long. Great place and a must stop in St. Paul."

  • "When we first pulled up, I was worried. Place doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you walk in it was charming. Small inside, cozy. Service was great. I dropped my phone in the toilet while there and the bartender brought out a bag if rice! Food was delish, served with a smile and timely. I would highly recommend and will be back!"

  • "This was our first time at Bennett's and we were pleasantly surprised. Appearances are of a normal, neighborhood bar and restaurant. Nothing fancy but just very comfortable. We were greeted promptly and even though we were a bit early for our reservation time, we were seated right away. The staff was very friendly and the food was terrific. We will definitely be back again."

  • "Extensive menu and food is very good. Chopped Salad is the best I've ever had. Husband had Pot Pie. Vey good, as well. Jambalaya Soup ok, but sure wasn't anything close to Jambalaya so not sure where the name came from. Order the homemade carrot cake....so good! Place was packed! "

  • "We had reservations (good idea if you are going on a game night) and were seated right away, our drinks came out quick as well as the food. The place was alive as the Wild were playing that night (we were going to the game). The food was delicious! We got the Juicy Lucy & the Jucy Juanita both were great! Our server asked if we were taking the shuttle and got our bill to us quick so we could catch the next one leaving. The driver of the shuttle was quick to get us down to the game and pick us back up. There is not a lot of parking so be prepared to park on the street but it was awesome that they offer shuttle service so you aren't paying upword of $20 just to park near the Xcel Center. "

  • "Loved it! Corey was an awesome server! He was very attentive and new the menu well. Joel Bennett came around and touched every table in a very genuine and casual manner. I love seeing this in restaurants. It shows that they care about the experience of each guest. "

  • "Not an impressive exterior but inside Bennett's is like a place where everyone knows your name. Lively with a lot of TVs. The food is very good, and the steaks were as good as we have had lately even compared to some of the higher end places. Our waitress was outstanding, anticipated needs and was just lively enough herself to fit into the atmosphere."

  • "This was our first meal at Bennett's and we'll be back. We had a NY strip and the Scallops/Risotto. The steak was good, but not great. The scallops were really good, but I could have gone for a couple more at that price. The side chopped salad is absolutely wonderful as was a curry potato/ham soup. We'll definitely be back, but will try other items on the menu."

  • "Great Rib eye and get Corey as your server Bennett’s Ahh! I have been eating at Bennett’s for years now and this is my first review. The bar tending staff, if you not a weekly regular could use a little Dale Carnegie training. BUT the wait staff is great always makes you feel welcome and they know the menu. For the first time I had the Tomahawk Rig eye. Now when you look at the menu and see $ 38.00 for a steak you think WOW. But it was worth every penny. Tender juicy and not over spiced to let the flavor of the meat shine. The Beef rib is outstanding and the house sirloin for the money you can’t go wrong."

  • "Went to WIld/Pens game that night and went to Bennett's before for dinner. I parked for free on the street and they had a bus that took us right to the Xcel arena. After the game, the bus driver took us back to Bennett's. The chopped salad was AMAZING and the crabcakes were so delicious. Great fun with all the hockey fans at the bar."
