Sat next to the kitchen. Very loud and we smelled like food when we left. We sat next to an unfinished wall with wires hanging out in our view. Ceiling was not complete and specials recommended was not cooked completely through. This venue seemed to accommodate larger parties and family setting. No managers came to check on our table nor service. We were also asked to move while employees moved a table over our heads. Originally went in for tex mex and our entire party had great 7oz steaks and a delicious dessert. Would only go back for dessert.

I have been to Benji's a few times now and thought it would be perfect for my sister's bachelorette party dinner. I made reservations for 8 pm and when we arrived our table wasn't ready. We didn't get seated until 8:30. I understand it was a Saturday evening and a game day, but I feel like a 30 minute delay for reservations is a bit much. I've been there without reservations and haven't had to wait that long. The food and drinks are wonderful and I would absolutely recommend going there. I just would make sure that you are not on a timeframe for after dinner activities.

We recently had 9pm reservations on a Saturday night with rooftop requested. The hostess found us a table but the evening was hampered by woefully short waitstaff who were busy with 3 large parties. Waiting 20 minutes for a cocktail and water refills gets old quickly. The food, once arrived was delicious. Benji's has uncovered the secret to delicious, perfectly executed fajitas, with chicken that is tender+moist, shrimp still plump and marinated steak that disappeared quickly. Fix the scheduling issue to cover a busy restaurant and whether its to impress out of town guests or to enjoy a beautiful evening in Austin, this is the spot.

We ordered the queso which was really good. The fajitas were pretty good but the chicken could have had more flavor. We had an okay amount for two people, but pretty pricey. We paid $50 for fajitas and rice for 2. You definitely pay for the location. The upper patio was really nice and a good view of West 6th street. I would go again on a special occasion.

I made a reservation and when walked to 2nd floor patio we were asked to walk down again and wait to be seated. Place was empty! Food way over priced. Fajitas were average.prices are the same as a las vegas 5 star restaurant but in comparison this place is a joke. Would never spend $90 dollars again in this place.

I made reservations online for my moms bday, i requested an outdoor seat with a nice view. when we arrived, they tried to stick us in a booth inside and the table wasnt ready. also, the website didnt specify that it was brunch only then dinner was not until 5. we informed the server that it was my moms bday and that we werent aware of brunch only being served at the time, the server did not seem to care and walked off. i am disappointed in the service and lack of care that the employees showed. i do not plan to go back and ended up going to another restaurant down the street who showed much more interest in our experience.

I took my boyfriend there for his 21st birthday. It was absolutely amazing! We went there because he is a queso fanatic but the fajitas blew us away as well. They also were kind enough to bring out a sopapilla cheesecake with icecream on top and a candle (free) for his birthday! Overall, awesome awesome experience!

My wife, her father, and I had dinner on a Sunday night. Benji's was realtively empty compared to neighboring bars and restaurants. We had chicken and beef fajitas, and their Jalapeno sausage. The beef was excellent, but their chicken was bland, and sausage was good but nothing speacial. Very skimpy on their portion of onions and peppers accompanying the fajitas. We tried a variety of their margaritas and were not overly impressed with any. Cilantro rice was tasty as were the fresh tortilia chips, but the two salsas offered left us wanting. Service was excellent. Overall food was ok, but given the price premium we will not be returning.

I've always loved Benji's for HH and dinner, but when I took a group of girlfriends to brunch--it was very disappointing! The positives were the great weather and really good music they were playing outside. First, the waiter spilled a mimosa all over my friend and in her purse, and did not even offer her a complimentary drink or appetizer. He still charged her full price for her entire meal. The service after that just went downhill--slow, one of my friends' salmon sandwich came out incorrectly, our crab benedict looked like someone dropped it and threw it back on the plate, etc. Also, the food was surprisingly not very good compared to the great food I've had at dinner. Won't be going back for brunch, unfortunately.

I wanted to love it, but too many misses in flavour. Chips and salsa worked well. Guacamole was good. The special Cerviche was vivid in colour but not in flavour. The $28 grouper caldo was an ample serving but again bland in flavour and also in colour...grey. I requested the fumé (sp) cocktail without ice to maintain the flavour, and received a typical glass 2/3 empty...not exciting. The flavour was ok so I requested a second one and suggested a better glass...received a mini-snifter...kudos, but this set the tone. Too bland and disinterested makes the evening just an expensive outing rather than memorable.

Have eaten here quite a bit, but disappointed this time. We weren't aloud to eat from Happy Hour menu because we weren't seated at the bar. The bar was too crowded and there weren't any seats! Besides, if it is happy hour, why shouldn't we be able to eat and drink from that menu regardless where we sit?? It was though we were in high school and we asked to eat from the snack bar menu in the main cafeteria. Really??????!!!! Also, when I asked if there were tacos on the menu, the waitress tried to pass off the fajitas as tacos. Really????!!! I was born and raised in Texas and I think I know the difference! Oh by the way, TACOS are specifically on the Happy Hour menu. The fajitas were great, but overpriced.

The food was good and so was the service until our group paid the bill. We had 6 credit cards and the waiter disappeared for 30 minutes, which is unsettling in this day and age of credit card theft. We waived down the floor supervisor and was told it was taking so long because we had so many credit cards, then her boss came over and told us the same thing (our fault). Finally the manager came over and apologized and explained the computer system crashed. This could have been handled differently from the get go, customer service goes a very long way and these servers have very little of it. Nothing about the meal was good enough to get me to go back after this experience.

Went here with a large group for a birthday dinner. Super fun, great service, food came out fairly quickly. The food is nothing to write home about and is a little expensive for what you're getting in terms of average-good Mexican food. But you're in a great spot in downtown Austin and we were able to enjoy the restaurant bar after our meal was over. Went with a large group and the waiters and waiters didn't seem overly annoyed with having to take care of a large table. It can be a little loud inside, but we went on a Friday night. However, I don't ever think I would call this place "intimate". And check out the upstairs bar/seating area. Awesome views and perfect for when the weather isn't blazing hot.

The manager came by our table and we joked that he did not know who Benji was! The dog in the movies in the 70ies and 80ies! Oh well, he probably Googled it later! The staff were all really nice and the food came out in a timely manner. Presentation was devine! We were on our way to a gig at Lambert's to see my son's bluegrass band that is touring the U.S. rom Australia and it worked out perfect to eat there and then walk to the venue. Had a great evening overall! Thanks so much!

We made our reservation through Open table for 6:45. It was 100' outside. When we arrived, we were asked to sit upstairs in the open patio. No one was up there, as it was oppressively hot. We asked to go downstairs. Was told we could sit at the bar. This with a half empty restaurant. They treated us poorly due to our Open table reservation. We finally negotiated a nice table, but the hostess was not accommodating. Everything else was outstanding.

it took 10-15 minutes before our server even acknowledged us with even a "hey I'll be right with you" because she'd was tending to a big group which i get but at least note that we were there - nothing until she came over, she was great once we got her time and the food was fantastic as were their drinks which kind of saved her lack of attention at first. We did get some chips and salsa at least to start but no waters to go with it so that was a miss.

My brother and I sat at the bar with Ryan as our main bartender. He was extremely knowledgeable about tequilas and was giving us tastings of the most delicious tequilas throughout our dinner. We ordered guacamole which was some of the best I've had in a restaurant and the conquistador for dinner which was divine! Everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and very flavorful. We will definitely go back. Good service is hard to find in this city and Ryan nailed it!

Went to Benji's with a group for girls for my birthday dinner. Great choice for groups. We shared the table side guacamole (which was fantastic by the way) and then ordered fajitas for the whole table. Shrimp, beef and chicken. Brussell sprouts were good too. We ordered three desserts Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Torte and a Sopapilla Cheesecake which they said was their speciality. Still thinking about the sopapilla cheesecake. It was unique and delicious. We ended our night upstairs at the rooftop bar. Great ambiance and service. Just a cool spot.

After having hit and miss experiences with trying new places in Austin, this one was def a good call. Met a friend for dinner Saturday evening, when I walked in the door I felt confident it would be an enjoyable experience. The food was great and the service was as well. The waiters are very personable and ours was very good at his job. It was a fun patio scene, would certainly consider going back. We had queso, guacamole, and beef fajitas. The chips and dips they bring out for the table were really good as was the sopapilla cheesecake. The people watching on a Saturday night was pretty hard to beat as well.

We tend to return to a restaurant until we have a bad experience. This was our sixth visit and not a good one. Soup came without a soup spoon. It took three requests to get soup spoons, and by that time the soup was cold. The chicken tortilla soup is quite good if you can get a spoon to eat it. The beef tenderloin enchiladas, however, were awful. A few pieces of poor quality chewy tenderloin beef hidden in multiple tortillas and a flood of overly rich and tasteless sauce. Basically just sauce and tortillas. I believe this will be our last visit, on to find someplace new. This restaurant was good while it lasted, but service and food quality appears to be slipping.

I'm pretty sure the beef fajitas and guacamole made at your table are the absolute best things on the menu, but I could be wrong. I've had them both times I've eaten here and they're to die for. My boyfriend got the carnitas which was also very tasty. The queso starter was also delicious. Our server wasn't the most attentive or perhaps she just didn't have a personality and was too busy for us, although there were plenty of open tables. My water glass was constantly empty and my margarita on the rocks wasn't strong at all. My friend's frozen margarita was much tastier and strong. Halfway through dinner the lights went down really low (we couldn't see each other, good for when you're on a date with someone fugly) and the music got loud!

I had the tomato crab meat salad and it was delightful. My husband had the ceviche, it was not quite as good as mine, but he enjoyed it. I had the beef fajita's for my entree and they were outstanding! The meat was very tender & tasty. The fresh tortillas were great. My husband had the carnitas, which were tasty, but a bit dry. We chose the sopapilla cheese cake for one dessert. It was amazingly delicious and not at all what we expected. We also ordered the tres leches cake, but were too full to eat it so we took it home....it's still in the fridge. Our waiter, Lanny, was very attentive and knowledgeable about all the menu items. He gave us some great tips for ordering. Overall, our experience was great!

My students decided that they wanted to go to Benjis's to celebrate going to the UIL State Academic Meet. I called in advance and spoke to Arvin about allowing my school to pay with a check. so I went out of my way to request a check through the school business office (we don't have a school credit card) and they printed out a blank check for Benji's. We had 2 others join celebrate making the table top 7. We had students who requested cheese enchiladas, but were not accommodated. Then when I told the waiter that we have a check, we were told that it would not be accepted. Then we needed to split tickets, but that was not allowable either. The food was good but after that we were left with a bad taste in our mouths.

Really enjoyed our company sponsored dinner at Benji's. I have been several times with my wife for date nights. The appetizers are the best part of the menu especially the tableside guacamole and ceviche. The fajitas are okay but didn't care for the texture. This is probably just a personal preference since I'm from the Valley (the South Texas one). On Saturday nights - lots of bachelorette parties.

I enjoyed the food. I had the fajitas. I am not a big fajita eater. The dessert was great, sophapilla cheesecake. The margarita was good too.

I rate Benji's a 4. Good brunch food, good service, good environment. I'd like to give them a try for dinner.
