Diner Reviews
  • "Tasty salads, very good steak served competently. They use a bit too much salt but other than that I would say this was an excellent meal. This was my second time at the restaurant. I enjoyed my bone in rib eye tremendously."

  • "The steaks were exceptional! They also have fantastic appetizers. The crab cakes are the best I've ever had and my wife said she could go back just for the Lobster Bisque. The potatoes were average at best, we've had the baked potato, the Benjamin potatoes and the cottage fries. All lacked the quality to live up to the steaks and the incredible Wait Staff. I highly recommend Benjamin for a special evening of dining."

  • "We went on a Friday evening during restaurant week and had an early (5:30) dinner. As it turned out we both ordered the same items - lobster bisque, USDA Prime, and chocolate mousse cake. The food and service were excellent. Our major concern was that the the tables are placed quite close together and that as the evening went on and the restaurant filled up the noise level rose to a rather high level (from moderate to energetic). A minor concern regarding the decor is that the room is rather dark and with the curtains open the contract between light and dark is really rather strong and somewhat disturbing."

  • "If you want a great steak without having to go all the way to New York City, Benjamin's is the place to go! The quality of the food is consistently excellent; the waiters couldn't be more attentive; and the ambience is delightful. You are well taken care of from the moment that you arrive. Located off the Sprain Pkwy, #287 or Central Avenue, this restaurant is very easy to reach coming from almost anywhere in Westchester County, and well worth the trip. Visit Benjamin's Steakhouse for an evening out. You won't be disappointed."

  • "Attended during Restaurant Week. Decided to upgrade the steak to Filet for $5 surcharge and also added Hash Browns as a side for $5. Waiter failed to bring hash browns with meal and had to wait a good 10 minutes for hash browns to be brought back, This forced me to wait to eat steak which tended to cool down. All in all a great dining experience on the food side."

  • "We'd been several times for dinner before and the food and service was excellent. This time it was a mess. Someone else's food was delivered to our table and then taken back only bit by bit. The steaks arrived with some sort of burnt spices. I didn't get my sauce for over 20 minutes after everyone else got their food. We had difficulty getting the attention of the waiters to even get our food and drinks in the first place. Someone in charge offered us some one free (that was good) to apologize, but they also brought us a plate of desserts free to apologize though no one wanted dessert. Then the proceeded to charge us with the desserts. Looks like new owners who have no clue about food or service. Will not go again."

  • "The NY Strip bone in was average, too salty, no unique steak house flavor. The sides were unimaginative. The lobster bisque had no lobster, The mashed potatoes tasted flat, Creamed spinach was too salty. The service was poor. There were more servers than diners in the room, yet no one checked on our meal, the dirty plates stayed at our table for over twenty five minutes with many servers standing by idly not one person exhibited an overall "glad that we were dining with them feel". Management was not engaged. We won't return to Benjamin's. There are many, many better steakhouse options nearby."

  • "Had been looking forward to checking out Benjamin's for a while, but hesitated due to the inflated prices. Granted, the food may very well be worth their prices, in NYC, but Hartsdale is a far cry from NYC. Saw they were honoring Restaurant Week specials so figured I would take advantage of the opportunity. My mother and I dined from the RW menu, which may have been a mistake for our first visit. We are both steak lovers and the selection was quite abbreviated. We had the sirloin. Although cooked to my liking there was a lack of flavor. The lobster bisque was great, and the sides were fine. The dessert was most enjoyable. The waiters were very friendly, but service was exceptionally slow, and the restaurant was not busy. I'd expected more"

  • "Tables were nicely spaced and waiters were attentive; the room was pleasant but overall nondescript. My steak was good but not exceptional; same for the salmon entree. The best part of the meal was the lobster bisque. It was thick but not too thick; very flavorable and did include bits of lobster. Would definitely order that again if I ever went back. Wine by the glass was just ok."

  • "We were seated in the section near the bar with TVs showing basketball games. Lighting was quite dark, which emphasized the light from the TVs. I'd say it was quite noisy, it was difficult to hear our conversation. Ordered from the Restaurant Week menu: bowl! of lobster bisque & salad (both good), salmon portion seemed small but was enough for my dinner companion and he said it was good. My steak was good, cooked perfectly medium rare which many restaurants get wrong. It was not overly salty and portion was fine, I took some home. Maybe things were different because it was restaurant week. Maybe we were tired. Was our first time here, we are glad we ate here, food was good, just wasn't wowed."

  • "OK - It was a very busy Saturday night but, if you're going to run an establishment like this, make sure you either have enough help or hire more energized staff. Long waits for drink orders - for wine to be served - for appetizers to arrive - for dinner to be cleared. Not even one query as to whether all was good or if someone wanted another drink. This party of four skipped dessert after 2 1/2 hours from seating to check. The food was good but not spectacular. The sirloin was great. At these prices, however, there are far better steakhouse options in Manhattan for ambience, service and food."

  • "Tried this place for the first time during restaurant week. The whole experience was wonderfully. Very attentive staff and the steak was amazing! I think I found my new steak place."

  • "This restaurant hums like a well-oiled machine. We dined there during restaurant week and even though packed, the service was excellent, thanks to Vincenzo, our waiter. and the food was quite good. The steaks were cooked perfectly, were tender but a bit over salted. Enjoyed the excellent homemade whipped cream ( a rarity in restaurants ) on the desserts but would have preferred the carrot cake be refrigerated, not served at room temp. We wish the regular menu was more affordable so we could return more often."

  • "If you're a steak fiend like me, then this restaurant is a must! Perfectly cooked steak of excellent quality to my liking along with tasty sides of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach made without cream! Fresh arugula salad with tomatoes as an appetizer complements the dinner along with dessert (go for the chocolate mousse cake to die for!). Wine list is complete, from Argentina to USA to Australia. Highly recommended!"

  • "We attended dinner on a Thursday place was packed due to the deals. Best part of my meal was the mixed green salad. I ordered a Filet Mignon not only was it super dry, it was super fatty. The sides we ordered were mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, spinach was super salty. Needless to say we will not be back for the next restaurant week! Was really surprised at the disappointing meal. We have heard nothing but positive remarks about Benjamin's! The service was outstanding, but that's about it!"

  • "We have been to Benjamin's before and thought the food and service were great. This was not so during restaurant week. The portions were small, although the quality was the same. Our service was terrible. We ordered a bottle of wine that had turned and replaced it with the suggested wine on the menu for restaurant week which was fine. When we had to hail someone to get our bill (after wondering what had happened to our wait staff) we found we had been charged for both bottles! A mistake, for sure, that was rectified but unnecessary. We will definitely return and happily eat another great steak but not for restaurant week!"

  • "Looking forward to going out to a Steakhouse since we haven't gone to one for a while, we were a bit disappointed. Upon arriving there was no option except to valet park your car. (Not everyone likes others to drive their car). We were seated promptly and the waiter arrived promptly also. Service was good, the food was ok, over salted on most items. The restaurant was uncomfortably dark. Not a bad time but will not return."

  • "I have eaten at Benjamin's Steakhouse a few times before. This time the food was very good, as always, but the service was not that good. I felt as though our table of 4 was an afterthought throughout the evening. First 2 of us got our drinks before we were ever served water at the table. Then, 2 steaks were served then taken away, only to be brought back a few minutes later with the rest of the steaks. We waited longer than usual between courses. The rest of the dinner went better, but I was disappointed with the way we were treated."

  • "Food could stand to be better. The bread was cold. The soup was warm, lobster bisque had no lobster. The manager asked about it he said its just a flavor. I was confused because the menu did not say that. The steaks and mashed potato's had no flavor. Creamed spinach had no cream looks like it was frozen and then microwaved. I asked for A-1 sauce the server brought me a bottle that had a splash left. We informed the server of where we were sitting was very cold they turned the fireplace on. Once we told them we didn't like the food the fire place was turned off. The manager came to our table and asked how everything was, we told him we were not pleased he said he said he would do something for us. He did nothing!! so that was also upsetting."

  • "The food was ok. The best thing we had was the oysters. While I enjoyed my lobster, I have had better. The atmosphere is just so crowded and loud. I feel for the price they could do better the menu is white boring to me. They don't offer much diversity or excitement. If you don't go out much and want a good steak and basic meal then I guess it's fine but if you are used to eating in a more diverse gourmet setting then this place is very boring and a waste."

  • "My husband uses a walker and, from the valet to the reception and coat check women to a waiter who was not assigned to us but offered to store the walker - all were as helpful as we would hope. We were dining with good friends and the staff appreciated our need to move slowly through the meal. We were not rushed, but, when we asked for the check, it was produced in a timely manner. The food at Benjamin's is excellent - perhaps not outstanding. The kitchen produces classic medium rare steak, creamed spinach and salad. That's what we went for and that's what we got. Really the best steak in Westchester. We have been there on Saturday night and found it much noisier than the rest of the week. We will not return on a Saturday."

  • "For westchester this is fine dining.... Much better than it's city counterpart ; everything was well prepared -dining room rather empty but staff acted as if they were serving a full house. Jr Sirloins prepared perfectly . Caesar salad tasted of the pre-made- bag -from the store type . Lobster bisque was very good , slightly above your standard find. dessert was very good. Tiramisu very tasty. I'll be back - but mostly because there is little else in these parts..."

  • "So much build up & anticipation - but this restaurant did NOT let us down. We told them we were there to celebrate a birthday & they gave us a table in front of the beautiful fireplace. The service was OUTSTANDING - not just from our waiter, but from every staff member. Our steak was everything we had hoped for & the desserts were so delicious. They put a candle in my husband's dresser without my request & bought him an after dinner drink to celebrate. We had a very special night."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our visit tremendously. We ordered the the porterhouse for two and it was cooked to perfection. She is an extreme steak lover and she was raving about the deliciousness of the meal. The Cream of Spinach was also delicious and could have been a dipping sauce for the steak; that's how creamy good it was! The staff was always smiling and making sure we were OK and making you feel welcomed. I also added that it was my wife's birthday on the open table reservation and they surprised us with a dessert, candle, and a Happy Birthday song from the staff. Granted they charged us for the dessert and we ate it but it was an amazing gesture for the both of us for $8.50. I was really grateful and it was a perfect touch to the night."

  • "We went at 6pm on a Sunday. All of our food was excellent. We got the bacon appetizer and the salad for 2 with the crab meat on the side. We ordered steak for 2 and had a side of mashed potatoes. We each got a dessert which were delicious but we would probably skip next time because it's 8.50 for a slice of pie. One of our 2 minor issues were the wine. We decided to order a bottle from the wine list. We ordered by the number on the list and did not get the bottle we ordered but it was very good. The next issue is for both Open Table and the Benjamin. We mentioned in our reservation notes that this was a special occasion and that we planned on posting a review. My husbands birthday was never mentioned or recognized which was disappointing."

  • "The problem with this restaurant is its lack of consistency. I was here the week before and the food and service were excellent. Not so this time. The waiter did not bring the drinks and re order for at least 15 minutes. In fact at one point we actually had to go and find him. It was extremely embarrassing as we had guests."
