Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed the experience of dining at Benihana. It is a big restaurant though every table gets the attention you expect from this type of restaurant. The food is very tasty and there is a lot of variety on the menu."

  • "We felt the people working we're rushing us to leave. The salad was berry small and was not good at all but we were not able to choose as it was the only one yet we're offering. It was well over priced for the type of food and service they provided. The way they cooked the food was cool but it only lasted 4 minutes total. We had a table of 13. All and all I will not be back and I would not recomend this restaurant to anybody who likes good service and good food."

  • "We went there for the summerlicious event. $45 prix fixe include an apetizer, a main course and dessert. We ordered some california rolls for apetizer, which were average. And we ordered Hibachi steak, and the chef put on a show for us, which was great and the beef tasted very lean and juicy. And then we had some chocolate cake for dessert, which tasted really good too. I would say that the food and the ambiance were worth the money but it would be a little bit pricy if eating at regular price."

  • "I was a little disappointed with the quality of the food - the soup was just clear broth with some dried onions, the salad had a dressing that was unpalatable. The sir-fried vega were ok- they was no real flavour. The teriyaki chicken was good ; however the two accompanying sauces were a disappointment as well- the ginger sauce /mustard sauce both had a distinct pungent flavour and in my opinion did nothing to enhance the flavour of the food. The biggest surprise of the evening were the desserts- loved the mango mousse and the chocolate cake - they were presented beautifully and I literally ate mine in one gulp- it was so good ! Our dining experience was made memorable by our dinner companions whom we met by pure chance. !"

  • "Should ask if first time and do you need help understanding how to order on the menu.... We had to get up from our seat and go find someone to ask. Overall, was good but was just a little pricy for what we received. Would go more often if it was a little less expensive. Maybe understanding the menu more would help get what you want and be affordable."

  • "Service was great. Food was good. But was expecting more from our chef for his cooking performance. And he didn't like to have his picture taken."

  • "Booked our 8 person reservation from Seattle. Arrived day of reservation, and 2 more friends wanted to join us. Restaurant not open yet, but hotel made necessary arrangements without challenge. Had 2 tables facing one another. Two wonderful 'chefs'. So much fun, and many memories made. Wonderful evening with friends! Thank you, Benihana!!!"

  • "My husband and I went to Benihana for the first time last weekend! It was amazing. We met some amazing new friends over dinner! The food was fresh and delicious, prepared before our eyes. Our chef, not only cooked our meal, but he put on a production. The serving staff were friendly and attentive! I ordered a vegetarian meal and they ensured that my food was prepared first and that I did not receive any meat! I was so impressed! We definately will return. It was pricey, but well worth it. Our plate was full and so were we! Thanks Benihana"

  • "This is the 2nd time my 2 adult daughters & I visited Toronto and ate at Benihana - we LOVE it!! I made reservations online through OpenTable, which was easy. I took the confirmation number with me, in case we had trouble, but of course the entire process was smooth, and when I gave our name to the hostess at Benihana, she immediately crossed it off her reservation list. We love sitting at the teppanyaki table, watching the food being prepared before our eyes, and interacting with other diners at the table. The food is fabulous at Benihana's, and the atmosphere is amazing! We highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "The food was good, and the service was good. The down side to this resteraunt was the cost. We felt it to be way over priced, and in no way am I cheap. I had a good time and deffentently recommend the spicey tuna roll. "

  • "This was my first time at Benihana in Toronto. I lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida 1984-2007 and had been to the Benihana there many many times; mostly for special occasions and when I had visitors from Europe. The Benihana is Fort Lauderdale is smaller than the one here in Toronto. The athmosphere is more intimate because of its location on the intracoastal waterway makes it accessible by boat. In all our food was very good and we had a great time. The onion vulcano was a nice touch. "

  • "The service was excellent and the table setup was smart. It was a great experience, but this wouldn't be my first choice if I was hungry. The staff was attentive and service was first class, but that didn't make up for my overlooked ahi tuna. It had the toughness of reheated leftover, well done steak. "

  • "Last minute idea for a fun date night for my fiance and I. Didn't realize that its more a group setting than a date night. While the staff are friendly, and service was very accomodating, the food was only marginal, and the 'performance' was left us wondering why we bothered. Our chef only flipped his spatula a few times and made a lot of banging noises with the salt, pepper and sesame seed shakers. The onion volcano was a mess (as it collapsed). Also, our table was quiet so we made the best of the situation. But we will not be going back."

  • "I took my daughters for dinner for this experience and it was a really great evening. The Server was very pleasant and accommodating. The Chef we had was very entertaining and was good to explain all the food/process etc.. Food was very tasty and expecially the Lobster!!"

  • "If you want to be entertained while you eat, this is the place. The food is expensive but well worth it. Sushi is very fresh. Meal portions are large. The service is prompt and friendly. They never make you feel rushed. Perfect for either a girls night out, date night or any type of celebration. Would highly recommend. Look forward to going again."

  • "Perfect Teppanaki Grill - Shrimp, Scallops, Lobster, Chicken, Sirloin and Filet Steak, and veggies were all cooked perfectly. The show was fun with an Onion Volcano, but what impressed us most was the perfectly cooked dinner. The only downside was the ambience as a big office group of "boys" were seated beside us 1/2 way through dinner."

  • "the chef was very engaging, very good at his job, handled the utensils well, he made it fun"

  • "Dined with a group of 4 at the tepanaki table. The service was good, and watching the chef prepare the meal was fun (I did expect a bit more of a show than what actually happened though). The food was very good from apps to main course. Good choice for groups, but not for a romantic evening out. Was pricey, but you definitely get a lot of food for what you pay for."

  • "My 13 year old son wanted to go some place different for his birthday. We chose this restaurant. Both the food and service were very good. It is expensive but a good choice for a special occasion."
    Dined on 3/10/2014
  • "When we were there, it was very nice. Food and chef was very good. One problem that was actually kind of annoying by the end of the meal: the staff kept grabbing plates and dinnerware, and glasses off of our table - long before they should. I realize they are trying to clear things up , but no one should be grabbing your plate away when you still have food in your mouth from the last bite... they were grabbing everything this way the entire meal, you could barely finished, and ended up you felt so rushed. Even the glasses, you were not even finished your beverage, even tea at the end and zoom... away it went. That was disappointing."

  • "Great food, a little overpriced, fun to watch. It was a weekday so there was a lot of people from a convention. It had been a while since I went to a Benihana. Best for groups since the tables are set up for that."
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "The meal was good but it was difficult to hold a conversation with all of the noise. Additionally, the fume hood should be turned on occasionally. In one instance the smoke / steam from the grill was suffocating."
    Dined on 3/3/2014
  • "Atmosphere was Great. Food excellent but the prices since last visit have gone up quite considerably."
    Dined on 3/1/2014
  • "The Teppanyaki chef did not put on a show at all, even though he had good knife skills. The furnishings and decor in the restaurant are tired looking - need a face lift. On a positive note, you will not leave hungry."

  • "Went for dinner with my lovely girlfriend who isn't fond of vegetables or seafood but the experience of the teppanyaki cooking won her over! Delicious and inspiring. Amazing place to visit, even better if your staying at the York. Much respect for the chefs and serving staff!"

  • "We decided we wanted to have a special dinner for Valentines Day. We chose Benihanas, and were not disappointed. The food was superb, the fixed price menu providing ample selection. I had the steak, which was cooked to order perfectly. Many stakehouses don't seem able to do medium rare justice. My partner had the teriyaki chicken, and she felt the sauce was maybe a little too light, but the other sauces provided made up for that. All in all, we are looking forward to our next meal here. The only downside, and I don't know how this could be fixed, is that you sit side by side with your party, so conversation is hard to accomplish."

  • "I went for Winterlicious 2014 at this restaurant with my hubby. I have been for teppenyaki at Iron Chef Mississauga previously and in comparison , the latter was definitely better. We mainly came for the tricks and performance, but there was hardly any of that. The chef at benihana was pleasant , but I only saw him flip his knife once and create an onion volcano. And that was the end of it. I dont know if the special tricks and performance is reserved for regular clients only !!!! So being a winterlicious customer, my review is poor in terms of performance, average service and food. I felt rushed and felt it was not worth the $45 per head."
