A word from Benihana - Santa Monica
Welcome to Benihana and a dining experience unlike any other! If you’ve never been to Benihana before, let us tell you what you can expect: Our guests are seated at communal tables in groups of eight to ten, where your personal chef will perform the ancient art of Teppanyaki. Watch as we slice and dice, preparing a meal that will dazzle your eyes as well taste buds, whether you choose mouth-watering steak, tender chicken or succulent seafood.

Or you can visit our sushi lounge where a talented sushi chef will prepare the freshest sashimi, maki and signature sushi rolls with the same flair that made Benihana a legend in Japanese cuisine. Smaller tables and more intimate seating is available in the lounge or bar on a first-come, first-served basis, whether you’re looking to enjoy one of our delicious Benihana Teppanyaki entrées or our amazing selection of sushi!

I was very excited about my birthday dinner at Benihana, unfortunately they didnt sing to me. My friend told the waitress it was my birthday and the other famliy that was seating at the same table were also celebrating a birthday. At the end of the our meal, the waitress came with another waiter and sang to the other family and not me, I felt left out, it was sad because i was looking foward for this dinner specially since it was my birthday.

This was the first time that I was at this location and I must say that of all of the Benihana that I've been too, our chef made it entertaining. The only problem I had was how he mixed all of the meat and divided them up according to his judgment (even or not). Usually a chef will divide the meat by what a person orders and not mix everyone else's. He was just lucky that I was with family and it wasn't that big of a deal. Otherwise I hope it's not something he practices on a daily basis with different group in a single table.

We just had my daughter's 16th birthday dinner here with 7 of her friends - the tables can accommodate 8-10 people. My husband and I ate in the upstairs sushi lounge to give the teens privacy but we could peek over the balcony to see how they were getting on. They were always laughing and smiling and eating - they said that their chef was really nice and funny. They all enjoyed the food. I really enjoyed the sushi. The staff were very accommodating and polite and allowed us to bring in an ice cream cake and they kept in their freezer and then carried out and sang Happy Birthday, Benihana style. They provided the knife and plates and we did the cutting. The whole evening was a success. Thank you.

Only go if you are a tourist that will be amused by a silly show. OR if you are under 12 years old, and celebrating with your 12 friends. Food depends on the experience of your chef. Manager does not care about customers. VERY EXPENSIVE for what you get.

We had a very nice time. There was a large group of very loud obnoxious kids I asked not to be seated with them and the kept me far away. The chef, Brian was amazing. The server COMPLETELY ignored my birthday! My daughter wasnt feeling well and sat off to the side while we finished eating. I put on the reservation list we had a birthday and I got nothing they didnt even ask if we wanted dessert. Maybe she assumed we wanted to leave idk. Oh and the two hosts at the front desk totally ignored us until a manager (i assume) came over and greeted us. One was on the phone and one wasnt. Didnt even acknowledge us. I drove 45 min to come here and besides my daughter not feeling well they really made my birthday a disappointment.

Very noisy, food ok but service lacking!!Wrong food prepared-not what we ordered. Kids everywhere running wild!!!More like an out of control playground then a restaurant. Chef just stood there cooking, not what you expect from Benihana=no performance. Asked desk to call us a taxi when we were leaving and advised that "oh we don't do that"!!!Really!!! Had to ask for a manager who made the call for us?? Training lacking in this matter as well as the chefs need to ensure a dinning experience that you attend Benihana to observe

made a reservation for 2 through this site for Benihana on Monday, Sept. 29 at 8pm. it was going to be a special birthday dinner. we arrived at 7:45 and by 8:15 we were not seated. no one seemed to notice or care, we told them we were leaving and they just waved and said bye. i can't even review the restaurant because the front of the house didn't seem to care if we got a seat. we went somewhere else and had a lovely birthday dinner. why would we come here when there are so many other great choices who care about having our business.

I have eaten at Benihana restaurants in many places and cities. This one is in Santa Monica and deliver consistent experience and food quality. I have only two comments on this particular restaurant - once you get in, the cell signal is very low and depending on where you are seated you might have none at all. I don't know why but it bothers me. Also it was an early dinner - although the Chef was fantastic and the waitress was also, we were not properly greeted when we came into the restaurant lobby, we felt a little ignored actually. Other than that, if you like Benihana food and cuisine, Benihana always delivers.

Love this place, including the location and staff. If you get the opportunity to choose your waiter, go with Jeremiah. If you get a chance to choose your chef, go with Shosuke. Both are total pros who will make sure you have a the best time. If you love the chicken fried rice, order extras to take home. At $3.75 per serving, it will be a great & very reasonable leftover lunch!

Benihana is a great restaurant. It is walking distance to the beautiful Santa Monica Beach and Pier, along with numerous shops and the Santa Monica Promenade. The restaurant is perfect for a group and special occasions, providing great entertainment by the chefs. It is perfect for any occasion from a date to birthday celebration. For birthdays, they take a complimentary group picture and have a couple of the employees sing a special version of "Happy Birthday." The food is very tasty. Everything from the salmon to beef to chicken is grilled perfectly and the meals are filling. I highly recommend Benihana for anyone wanting a good time filled with food and a great atmosphere.

We had an awesome chef! If you can get Andrew, you will not be disappointed. He puts on one of the best shows and is very personable, unlike other chefs I have experienced at teppanyaki style restaurants who rarely talk and put mediocre effort into entertaining the patrons. His cooking and seasoning style some how tasted better, even though there is a standard at Benihana's. You can request your meats to be cooked "Andrew style"- just ask him about it. :-) A guy sitting next to us loves the way Andrew prepares the chicken fried rice so much that he ordered 2 extra bowls of it.

My second visit to the Santa Monica Benihana over the past few moths. Even with a reservation, the wait time to be seated is at least 20 minutes. Our waitress was excellent, bringing us drinks, then soup and salad. A manager brought us some edemame pods as compensation for the chef's delayed arrival. The food preparation seemed agonizingly slow and came in dribs and drabs - all the vegetables were served separately and most disappointingly - our surf and turf also came one after the other. Overall, a disappointing evening and not worth the $30 plus entree tab. I would rather go to a steak house like Ruth Chris than this adult version of Chuckie Cheese.

We went to Benihana to celebrate a birthday. Fortunately, we got the chef that we had last time, Brian. Brian is very accommodating because he will recook your meat if it is too well-done for you. The filet mignon actually came out very juicy, even though it was not as rare as we usually like. The tempura was a little too soft, not as crispy on the outside as we are accustomed to. In any case, we had an enjoyable evening.

THE FOOD WAS GOOD, HOWEVER MY ENTREE CAME WITH ICE CREAM AND GREEN TEA, I DIDNT RECIEVE ANY OF THAT AND WHEN I ASKED THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE CLOSED, AND EVERYTHING WAS PUT AWAY I FELT LIKE I WAS A CUSTOMER PAYING FOR WHAT I PAID FOR AND DIDNT UNDERSTAND, THIS BENIHANA IS FAR WORSE THAN BEVERLY HILLS AND THEY ARE NOT EVEN PART OF THE FRANCHISE, I WOULD CONSIDER GOING TO TORRANCE OR ENCINO BECAUSE OF BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Our chef was a greenhorn fresh from his 2 weeks of training. Couldn't twirl the salt shakers, couldn't do the hat trick, couldn't draw a picture with the eggs, and missed the knife sheath several times. Our waiter service also left something to be desired as he would disappear for long periods of time. We had to wait long periods of time for our drink to arrive both times. The last time, the waiter apparently had to have the busboy deliver our drinks because he was too busy? We have been to Benihanas many times and to multiple locations. We usually have a pretty good time. We had more fun watching the chef at the adjacent table, than the poor performance our own chef gave. Next time I will make a note to provide an experienced chef.

I could recommend Benihana's...but...not completely. The show and the chef got through the meal but he fumbled his tosses more than once. He seemed nervous and stiff in his manner. Was this his first or second night? The show that the chef performed made 'dinner watching' quite interesting. The food was all delicious and appealing. That's great. But as soon as he finished his show we were encouraged ,it seemed, to finish our meal or order dessert... now!... I didn't see or hear or meet any manager of Benihana during the 2 hours I was there. , I was celebrating with my son and I, two birthdays....... Ironically, this is the second Birthday dinner I've had at Benihana's in the past 5 days.

No one goes to Benihana for the food, you go for the show, and unfortunately, the chefs don't all put on the same show. Our Chef cooked, but he did not talk and he did not do any extra showy things -- just the very minimum mandated by the restaurant. It was my son's 10th birthday and he was very disappointed. He watched the table beside us who had a dynamic chef who put on a great show and he was very let down. The food was good but not exciting -- just like always.
