A word from Benihana - Santa Monica
Welcome to Benihana and a dining experience unlike any other! If you’ve never been to Benihana before, let us tell you what you can expect: Our guests are seated at communal tables in groups of eight to ten, where your personal chef will perform the ancient art of Teppanyaki. Watch as we slice and dice, preparing a meal that will dazzle your eyes as well taste buds, whether you choose mouth-watering steak, tender chicken or succulent seafood.

Or you can visit our sushi lounge where a talented sushi chef will prepare the freshest sashimi, maki and signature sushi rolls with the same flair that made Benihana a legend in Japanese cuisine. Smaller tables and more intimate seating is available in the lounge or bar on a first-come, first-served basis, whether you’re looking to enjoy one of our delicious Benihana Teppanyaki entrées or our amazing selection of sushi!

Good food. Chef was new, so seemed like we were more of a training table. We specifically went there for the habatchi grill, but it was what you would expect from a chain novelty-experience type place. Would go back, but would check for other options first.

THIS IS ESTABLISHMENT WAS NOT FRIENDLY AT ALL, I HAD TO ASK AND KEEP ASKING FOR WHEN MY TABLE WAS GOING TO BE READY MY WHOLE PARTY WAS HERE AND THE RESTURANT WAS NOT THAT CROWDED CONSIDERING MY RESERVATIONS WERE FOR 915PM AND THEY CLOSE AT 10. THE FOOD WAS GOOD, HOWEVER MY ENTREE CAME WITH ICE CREAM AND GREEN TEA, I DIDNT RECIEVE ANY OF THAT AND WHEN I ASKED THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE CLOSED, AND EVERYTHING WAS PUT AWAY I FELT LIKE I WAS A CUSTOMER PAYING FOR WHAT I PAID FOR AND DIDNT UNDERSTAND, THIS BENIHANA IS FAR WORSE THAN BEVERLY HILLS AND THEY ARE NOT EVEN PART OF THE FRANCHISE, I WOULD CONSIDER GOING TO TORRANCE OR ENCINO BECAUSE OF BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Our chef was a greenhorn fresh from his 2 weeks of training. Couldn't twirl the salt shakers, couldn't do the hat trick, couldn't draw a picture with the eggs, and missed the knife sheath several times. Our waiter service also left something to be desired as he would disappear for long periods of time. We had to wait long periods of time for our drink to arrive both times. The last time, the waiter apparently had to have the busboy deliver our drinks because he was too busy? We have been to Benihanas many times and to multiple locations. We usually have a pretty good time. We had more fun watching the chef at the adjacent table, than the poor performance our own chef gave. Next time I will make a note to provide an experienced chef.

We had a party of 7 with only two adults and had a blast. The chef came up with some new tricks in cooking, so that was nice. Kids had a great time. Forgot the Birthday coupon that would have saved us $30 on our over $200 bill

I could recommend Benihana's...but...not completely. The show and the chef got through the meal but he fumbled his tosses more than once. He seemed nervous and stiff in his manner. Was this his first or second night? The show that the chef performed made 'dinner watching' quite interesting. The food was all delicious and appealing. That's great. But as soon as he finished his show we were encouraged ,it seemed, to finish our meal or order dessert... now!... I didn't see or hear or meet any manager of Benihana during the 2 hours I was there. , I was celebrating with my son and I, two birthdays....... Ironically, this is the second Birthday dinner I've had at Benihana's in the past 5 days.

No one goes to Benihana for the food, you go for the show, and unfortunately, the chefs don't all put on the same show. Our Chef cooked, but he did not talk and he did not do any extra showy things -- just the very minimum mandated by the restaurant. It was my son's 10th birthday and he was very disappointed. He watched the table beside us who had a dynamic chef who put on a great show and he was very let down. The food was good but not exciting -- just like always.

Took my daughter for her 16th birthday. What a let down. If you go and Jose is your chef I suggest you leave. It was the worst meal I have had in a long time. Food was burnt, egg shells in the fried rice. He couldn't do anything. Burned himself five times. It was a huge disappointment.

As soon as you walk into this Benihana, you might smell stale urine (for some reason the bathroom doesn't). The food is fine and the kids love the show, but it isn't a sort of place I'd suggest for foodies or adults in search of fine dining. The service was efficient and the chef was friendly and entertaining, but I still could smell the whiffs of pee... something that seems to be common around Santa Monica.

I used to go to Benihana and take advantage of their lunch specials when I was pregnant many years ago. My son is now 12 years old, and the waitress who used to serve me back then as a regular customer, recognized me immediately and gave me such a warm greeting. She even remembered my son's name! Awesome time! Delicious food and great company of friends to celebrate a special occasion...What a wonderful evening of reunions and memories!

Went on a whim, thanks to last minute reservation through Open Table. Seated with three other couples, and had fun engaging in the traditional Benihana family style scene. The service was a little slow, and we found the food to be a bit saltier than we had remembered. The table chef went through the usual visual entertainment, and in doing so apparently forgot that I had shrimp coming with my entrée so had to cook more for me after serving the others at our table. This before he cooked the steaks so all who had steak had to wait that much longer......but otherwise all was delicious and a good value for the price, and we will definitely return again soon.

Me and my family went to Benihana and had an amazing experience. We were lucky and got the best chef ever, Edwin. He put on a great show, cooked the food to perfektion and showed such a professional respekt to my food allergi (meat allergi). He cooked my dish first, from start to finish without putting any meat on the counter until my food was done and served to me. Then he cooked the rest of the groups food. This was so respectful and professional in my opinion and more than I expected him to do. Very good!

Son's bday. He had a certificate which we couldn't use - it was Sunday. Server was inattentive during the meal. We had to ask other staff to get him so we could get drink refills, etc. They don't let the chefs to make the volcano and now use a cheesy LED. My 2 yo granddaughter thought it was cool. Got steamed rice for her. Chef made an extra serving of fried rice. Charged us for it though we didn't order it. Never brought her steamed rice. Lobster: inedible. Told the manager. Said he would take off 25%. Thought it was off the whole meal. No - just my dinner. Would have been ok except the difference between steak and lobster and just steak was more. Do you really want me to take 56 cents more off. Horrible experience.

Definitely try to get him as your chef when coming to this location. Lots of fun!

I visit Benihana a few times a year, and this was the first to this location. Maybe it was an off night for them, but our experience was the worst I have ever had for a Benihana dinner. Our service was very slow and our waitress ended up ditching our table; other waitresses/waiters had to complete our dinner service. We had to remind the new waiter that we were waiting for our salad, bev refills we ordered earlier and also had to remind him we were there for a birthday celebration, (after they brought us our bill). The fan-fair was lackluster, not a very happy birthday. Parking was terrible! No off-street parking at the restaurant and the area was very busy, had to park in a lot 3 blocks away. I will not return to this restaurant location.

We got the whole family together for grandpa's birthday, including four couples and two babies. Benihana was delicious, as usual. The onion soup, salad, and chicken fried rice are staples of celebration dinners in this family. Everyone enjoyed their steak, chicken, and seafood. The chef was lively and entertaining. • Best Benihana service ever
    Regular
    Dined on 6/23/2014
We are semi-regulars eating here 3-4 times each year, but this time we hit the service jackpot. The waitress was not only attentive, she got all our special requests right, and took them with a smile. And chef Angel (with 9 yrs experience) has mastered the art of entertaining. He didn't just build an onion volcano--we got a full on nuclear power plant generator. And every time my husband ate something on my plate, Angel playfully scolded him and then moved something from his plate to mine. And finally, we were seated at a table without any children. Perhaps the best part of all. Arigato gozaimashta, Benihana. Now, if you could just offer some child-free seating times to minimize the screaming and squealing that can ruin date night...

Our chef was superb. We've eaten at many Benihana's and he was the best we've had. Regarding service, we asked our waitress for water at least 3 times before she finally brought it; happily before our meal was finished. The wine and sake were brought immediately, of course. The only other comment I have is that at other Benihana's there are more veggies served with the hibachi meals. This one only had zucchini and onions, no mushrooms or bean sprouts.

We were seated at a back table. The waiter asked us what we wanted to eat. We told him. One Lemon Chicken and One Teriyaki Steak. He asked how do you want it cooked? Medium we said. The Cook came and went around the table again and everyone stated exactly what was stated before. The cook came and started cooking and there was Fried rice everywhere. On people and all around. Really ridiculous stupid. Not like what used to be. Then came the meat after the Veg's. Cook asked again how everyone wanted their meal. Well, Everyone received their steak and then came the chicken. We received Lemon Chicken and Teriyaki Chicken..

Hi I a made a reservation for 3pm. I arrive at 2:50pm and was told it will be 5-10 min before being seated. Well It was 20min later I had to go back to the desk and ask about our reservations. They had not logged us in therefore we were left waiting. Everyone that came in without reservations came in and went before us and I have a 2yrold. So needless to say I was not happy with that. Never got a response from that issue. Still not happy.

My sister, husband and two children were in LA from the UK so thought it would be fun to take them here. What a mistake ! First of all the chef was Mexican in a Japanese restaurant ! Then the chef at another table threw hot oil down the leg of my brother in-law not once but twice! ruined his shorts and has a nasty burn on his leg, asked to see the manager who gave him an ice pack and comped his meal not the entire thing so still cost us $120 for a terrible evening !! will never go back !!

    - Good food, though it took a while for our chef to come to our table. The chef needed a bit more interaction with the customers - especially first time guests. Need to know more about the sauces, the ingredients, and should trained with new shows. - Service was not the best. Took a while for the waitress to bring our drinks, take orders, clean the table, check on the customers, etc...Maybe have a beverage station in a corner vs. all of the way in the back - Noisy room but this comes with the atmosphere
