  • "I loved the chef's display - he did a wonderful job. The food tasted wonderful! Thank you!"

  • "Made our reservation for 8:00 PM via Open Table and showed up at 7:58 PM was told we were too early to be seated... He then went on to forget about us and not seat us until 8:30 PM? What good is a reservation if the Restaurant does not honor it..? So much for us being on time.. Nonetheless, to be fair to the overall operation the dinner was fun and the food was good."

  • "Host staff could do a better job accommodating parties who have made reservations rather than making them feel like nuisances. We waited longer than we should have to sit, but then it got better. Friendly waitress and fun chef. Food was good, abundant. Drink (Mai tai) was light on alcohol, heavy on sugar. Kids loved it, though. Can't expect much more for an assembly-line restaurant."

  • "Food was good as alway but the chef was boring!!! I had brought people here from Ireland, boasted about how fun the chefs are only to get the driest chef possible!!"

  • "So I am a big fan of Teppanyaki places in general but was let down in our recent visit to Benihana. The chef was about as uninvolved as you could possibly be with almost no communication to the table, some sloppiness in the performance, and overall felt like he was just going through the motions. On the service side we felt ignored by the waitress and had to flag her down to order more drinks. Additionally, one of our guests was vegetarian and was made to wait until the entire cooking was over to receive her food. So basically for 30 minutes sitting there while everyone else was eating. We will not return as this is the 2nd time we have had a sub par experience."

  • "First of all, making a reservation for this restaurant is pointless. We arrived on time and weren't seated until 15 minutes later. Arriving early will require you yo wait longer. Then, the hostess had a very cavalier attitude. She had everything wrong. She couldn't find the reservation. Then, she got my name wrong after 3 times and then we had to wait for 15 minutes. But, when we finally got seated, the chef was amusing and cooked very well. The food was very tasty and the waitress who took our order was friendly and patiently took our order despite the overwhelming noise throughout the restaurant. Overall, despite the entertainment, I think I will pass on this restaurant for future."

  • "There is nothing like dinner at Benihana. The food is good and the "entertainment" -- watching the chef cook your meal in front of you -- is fabulous. It is a great place for birthday parties. Now that Benihana is on Open Table we go more often since it is so easy to make reservations."

  • "Terrible service. Waitress came To our table twice and did not refill drinks. Sushi order took a while To arrive. We were giving the wrong check and took 15 min to correct the mistake."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "The dining room was very noisy. Food quality was good. However, we ordered seafood which consisted of lobster tail, prawns and scallops. All the seafood were overcooked which I think was due to the teppanyaki grill setting was too high and also the chef not paying attention to the cooking. When lobster and prawns gets too cooked the meat becomes tough. That was the case unfortunately."

  • "It may be a little dated but so are tiki bars -- what may be old and out can be now new and in again. Food has always been solid, not spectacular. The kitchy chef show is corny but part of the deal. The lunch menu is a great value over the dinner entrees. Had the hibachi steak and it came w/all the excellent sides -- shrimp, fried rice, veggies -- the cut was decent, kinda gray colored but still tasty and just the right amount."

  • "The Manager was exceptional, he provided the right touch. He stopped at our table to ask if all was well, and he made sure that we were taken care of."

  • "Good times were had by all! Make sure tou sign with their birthday club a few days before you show up foe a birthday dinner, otherwise no free dessert for you! Otherwise it was great! Everyone was super friendly and the food was great. We showed up early for happy hour and it's the only time where it's worth it to drink there, the bartenders were great!"

  • "Had such a great time here with family, chefs are very talented and entertaining. The food was the best I have had in a long time, can't wait to go back again. Highly recommend."

  • "This was the food highlight of our 2 week trip to California. I enjoyed dinner here with my 2 grown up kids who had never eaten Japanese food before let alone experienced Benihana . They loved it! Javier was an expert cook and entertainer. Everything was perfect. Thank you"

  • "Came for a birthday. We had a grilled entree dinners to see the 'show'! Lots of knives and spatulas twirling and flashing. The meal came with onion soup, shrimp appetizer, salad, grilled veggies, steamed rice and ice cream. We also ordered fried rice which they prepared on the grill right in front of us. They shaped the frying egg like a bunny and then the rice into I heart you on the grill! He also used the onion rings stacked up to make a volcano shape that he poured water into so it would steam! This is definitely a 'show', so don't go if you are starving and in a hurry. But IT WAS SOOOO LOUD we literally had to shout to be heard. We couldn't even hear the other end of our table. It's also kinda overpriced for the show."

  • "We went for lunch today and noticed a big improvement in the service. We always love the food and the ambience, but the staff for the last couple of years was not quite at the same level. Not the case anymore because today was TERRIFIC, and we are looking forward to our next visit. Thanks for making us feel special!!"

  • "BENIHANA has long been one of my favorite restaurants. It offers a traditional Japanese food fare which is prepared beautifully. While the food is being prepared and is cooking at your table, you are also treated to the many entertaining skills of the Table Chief. This is a pleasant way of spending time while awaiting you cooked food. Also, the fact that "Birthdays" are recognized by the employees serving your table in both Japanese and English, is a very nice gesture indeed. The menu offers many items from which to choose. My most favorites are the Filet Mignon (sp?), Lobster and Shrimp. My friends and I always look forward to dinning at Benihana and plan to continue to do so as often as possible."

  • "Went for my birthday as I do each year. They changed their program and I missed the notice. In order for you to receive the $30.00 off the birthday person meal YOU MUST HAVE another adult with you buying full price meal. I am a single dinner. I say no more. jmo"

  • "I do not remember being able to order sushi before so plus for the bar/sushi bar. Our chef did some really cool tricks, but it took a while for him to start. It was a awkward/felt rushed as they cleaned up around us and put chairs on the tables. Got there at about 8:30pm, waited maybe 5 - 10 mins to be seated. No problem. Took our orders promptly, we got our soup, & then our salad shortly after. Waited about 15 mins @ tried to order sushi but it was closed. One of the other guests at our table tried to refill her drink & that was closed too. They didn't warn of us any last calls. The chef finally came around 9:30 (if that - we waited an hour for him to start!) & we left about 10:30pm shortly after the chef finished cooking."

  • "We went to Benihana's last week at the request of our 12 year old on his birthday. I had not been for probably 30 years and was a little skeptical. We arrived very late for our reservation but were graciously welcomed and seated. We all had a great time. My martini was perfect. The kids loved the show, from the onion volcano to the shrimp flips. Just know that Benihana's is not haute cuisine. If you are a food snob go somewhere else. If you want to have a good time and enjoy some pretty decent food with a group of friends or family this is a great choice. We will be back for our next birthday!"

  • "Although the food was yummy, we come for the cooking show part too. This chef seamed to be searching other tables looking for the next date. He wasnt interested in our table and didn't put on much of a show. We highly recommend Jay as the chef to go to."

  • "We were seated right away. The server was good. The food was good. The drinks were water down. The cook was a major downer. The did the spatula musical intro, the rice heart and the volcano - period. All done with a sour face. No extras. No jokes. No salt and pepper show. "

  • "I love Benihana. I wanted to check out the location in San Fransisco for fun. It was a wonderful experience. Thanks to our servers and our chef Antonio! You all were outstanding and the food was delicious as usual."

  • "Even though we had a reservation we were still given a buzzer and told to wait an additional 20 minutes before we could sit down. The restaurant was bigger and more commercialized than anticipated. Otherwise, the food was good and our server was friendly -- I just didn't really like the atmosphere."
    Dined on 5/18/2014
  • "If you want good food at a reasonable price, go somewhere else. Here you're paying to watch barely skilled cooks cut and cook meat on a grill while having fun with their knives and spatulas. Ho hum, unless you're an eight-year-old and really get off on an onion volcano."

  • "I went to Benihana for my birthday dinner with a group of six people. When we arrived we had to wait for our full party to arrive in order to be seated but that's not so bad. As I've been told great things about the show the cooks put on that is exactly what I was expecting but didn't quite get that experience. Our cook seemed to be in a hurty or not in the mood to do what the other cooks were doing to entertain their tables, from what we could see and hear. We were also told this by some of the people in our party that have dinned at this reastaurant frequently. The food was good and the ambiance was enjoyable too, my only complaint would be that I felt like we got cheated out of a great benihana experience by the cook that assisted us."

  • "Great food! I always cOme here and have a great time. The chief was great and the food was good. But I was extremely disappointed when the waiter returned my bill requesting that I hAve to leave a tip for her. NOt knowing my family including my self left a $25 tip with my sisters bill. That was very rude of her and makes me not want to eat here again. "
