  • "I'm not sure what happened with this place. The food used to be top notch and the chefs were professional and entertaining. As a note in my open table request, I even put "I request your best, most entertaining chef". What we got is someone that seemed to be their first day on the job during prime time on a Saturday night. It's been a tradition to go there, but It just doesn't seem worth the price anymore. Oh yeah, my wife salad had a piece of plastic in the soup."

  • "This is only for the Teppanyaki portion of the restaurant. They also have a sushi bar which was not sampled on this visit. The wait time was fairly short. Reservations are recommended. Keep in mind this is Americanized Japanese food so don't expect to be wowed by its authenticity. The 'show' put on the cook/chef/griller was really cheesy and very scripted as I could hear the other two tables getting pretty much the exact same show. Parking is limited. Valet is offered. Overall, mildly entertaining and food is good but not excellent. The wait staff is outstanding. Expect to be there about 2 hours. However......Fuji, which is literally down the street from this Benihana, has better food, especially steaks."

  • "The food and service is great, however parking can be an issue. If you are planning to Valet, bring cash. The Valet and Public parking across the street is $5.00 or if you find parking, you can self-park or park on the street. The space overall inside the restaurant is a little reduce, but after a drink you can probably oversee that."

  • "I am a regular customer at Benihana, I probably go to this location twice a month and I am sad to say the last few times I have gone it has gone downhill. Both of the last times I went I had very inactive cooks, he just wasn't "spunky" like whoever the cook was at the table on the right of us. The food was amazing as always, but unfortunately I was over-charged! I asked my waiter, Bryan, if I would be refunded my money right away and he said midnight. I then called today and spoke to a girl in the early afternoon who told me to give it until the middle of the day, still nothing credited back to my account. I have yet to get my money credited back to my account. I know mistakes happen, but it would have been nice to be given accurate info."

  • "First, so few parking spots are open to the public because they rope off spaces forcing you to valet or walk from way down the street. Seems every time I take my family here, we enjoy the show at the table next to ours better than our own. Seems they really should be performing the same skit for very group that way no one feels left out of the fun. And my steak was over cooked and the wine I wanted was not available. Final straw was that some of the food that was ordered by our table mates was on our bill. Then we had to wait for it to be corrected. I have decided I really like the flavor and atmosphere of Okawa in Santee, CA better then Benihana's. In the future we will go there, birthday coupon or not."

  • "I visit Benihana's about once monthly and have been doing so for the last 15 years beginning with the Benihana's in Torrance and Manhattan Beach, California. I now frequent Carlsbad mostly and sometime the San Diego restaurant. I love Carlsbad. It seems cleaner and is definitely bigger, more open and lighter/brighter. Thanks!"

  • "We took our daughter to celebrate her birthday. There was 6 of us so there were 2 strangers placed at our table but didn't really bother us. The chef was entertaining and we all enjoyed it. The food was amazing!!! We went for lunch so took advantage of the cheaper price but same quality food. We also tried some sushi.. Las Vegas roll and crunchy rolls. They were very good. This was our first time dinning here and we are already making plans to return. Amazing experience!!!"

  • "the food and performance was out standing, Santiago put special attention to my son (who was the only child at the table) and made it entertaining. the server however started off by arguing with me over the menu. I had ordered a half roll of tempura shrimp sushi from the menu, which she said wasn't an item; after a minutes of arguing, I showed her the menu where it was printed bright as day. she said ok just to return minutes later and say the menu was wrong and I had to order a full roll for twice the price. after that ordeal she brought us our starters then disappeared for almost the whole meal to refill drinks. after the meal was finished she had given us the wrong check. years of good service will keep me coming back."

You should allow the $30 birthday certificate without the purchase of another entree. Both me and my husband were celebrating our birthdays as Oscar Garibay's birthday was March 1st and I mine will be March 8th exactly one week apart so we decided to celebrate together but because we only have one daughter with 3 people total only one of us was able to redeem our birthday voucher. You shouldn't be so hard up on the vouchers. Thank you!!"

  • "My rsv was for 3. At check-in the hostess asked if I preferred a highchair (HC) or a normal chair for my 2 year old. I opted for a HC and to my surprise when we arrived at the table the hostess had changed my rsv to 2 instead of 3 having 2 adults and 1 HC squeeze on 1e end of the table. I asked what had happed to my 3rd spot the mgr (older lady) said "just have everyone else move down, since you opted for a HC you only get 2 spots not 3." My older son was hanging off the table, I stated we didn't want to have an uncomfortable dinner and I was not made aware this would occur if I chose the HC option given that my rsv was for 3. Mgr response "I am sorry you did NOT understand that you wouldn't get a 3rd seat, enjoy your dinner" and leaves."

  • "We've dined at Benihana's San Diego many times however this was our worst experience. The overhead blower was pouring out cold air. We asked the hostess if it could be turned down. She said she'd try. No luck--we spent the entire meal wearing our jackets. While the place is usually busy, service has been timely. Not this time. There seemed to be long waits between drink orders being delivered, appetizers coming and then waiting for the chef. Fortunately, our server was attentive and kept our drinks coming. He was the bright spot of the evening. The dining room seemed especially noisy this time."

  • "We went to Benihana's restaurant in Mission Valley of San Diego to celebrate my wife and Daughter's Birthday. We had a great time ! The food prepared by chef Angel live at your table grill was awesome. From Fried Rice, to Lobster, Angel cooked everything to perfection. Angel also put on a great comedy show while he was cooking. Matt the server was also very funny and Bubbly, as he worked hard to serve everyone. Because of all the chefs cooking, and everyone laughing, the restaurant is very loud and nosey, But everyone is having a good time, so it does not really bother you that much. You have to have their Fried Rice with dipping sauces on it. Jesus the night manager is such a nice man and will do anything for you !"
