GREAT PLACE FOR ALL6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMChef was boring...I've been going to this location for 5 years now. 5 years ago, the chefs were energetic and happy and did many tricks with just about everything they cooked on the grill. The excitement has dwindled drastically and it's gotten quite boring. He did 4 tricks the whole time...shrimp tails in his hat, onion train that was weak at best, an egg yolk trick that failed on all 3 tries, and he did absolutely nothing with the rice aside from shaping it into a heart. I was extremely disappointed. The food is amazing, but it would have been just as enjoyable if they served it to our private table. Your chefs should get some training from the Ichiban trainers. Carlos was our chef at the MN Golden Valley location, and he was fantastic! He was very entertaining and interactive with our group. I've been to Benihana a handful of times and he was by far the best chef I've had (entertainment wise). My family very much enjoyed our experience! Carlos should get a raise! I was there with my wife and our two children (ages 2 and 6), my parents and my brother and his girlfriend. Our chef "Kenny" was an increadible showman catering to both the adults and the kids. The food was remarkable. Steaks were cooked to order, chicken perfectly grilled and shrimp that was the flashiest cooked shrimp I have ever seen. The fried rice was made up right in front of us and tasted better than any I have ever eaten. We were a party of 5 with kids ages 17, 14, and 9. We all LOVED it. My son even commented that he ate mushrooms and onions and normally he wouldn't do that. Our chef was funny and entertaining and our server was very prompt. We spent more money than we normally would on dinner but we left absolutely stuffed and had leftovers to bring home, too. Even though we made reservations they don't seat you until your whole party is present which was a little disappointing since one of us was about 10 minutes late and we ended up having to wait another half an hour to be seated. My last memory of Benihana in Golden Valley was a dark, tired restaurant that had seen better days. We wanted to take our Finnish exchange student to a Japanese steakhouse for his 18th birthday and was about to choose another location when a friend said that Benihana GV had been recently remodeled. I was very pleasantly surprised...bright and new the restaurant exceeded my expectations. My family had a great time and my exchange student really enjoyed the experience. We had a group of 8 adults, so we just fit at a hibachi table. While it was quite noisy, so you could only talk to people on your end of the table, we had a great time. The chef was very entertaining and the food was plentiful and delicious. It is pricey, but I didn't mind because I left quite full with leftovers for the next day.
