Benihana - DearbornGreat 1st experience!I had never been but my son wanted to go for his 13th birthday. Our family went and we had a blast. The chef(Koo) was very nice, funny and personable. Our waiter was wonderful but I do not remember his name(black guy with light beard). The food was awesome and the service was great. The awesome wait staff appeared understaffed and overworked, all very pleasant but it was readily apparent they were in a rush. Atmosphere seems unorganized and chaotic at times. This restaurant combines parties to fill a table of eight seats so you will be sitting with strangers. Not a whole lot of room, felt boxed. Beware if you're party is less than eight and are bringing the kids with you! The chef flicked hot shrimp on a customer, not professional! It was utterly fascinating to watch the chef perform skillful cooking maneuvers and eye-catching tricks. Watching the hibachi rice being prepared only enhanced the flavor for me. It's something relaxing and different than your average run of the mill restaurant. We had a wonderful chef who cut up and joked around just like we like. My son loves it when they do the volcano out of the onion and of course our chef did that for him. Food was cooked just the way we all requested. Steaks were so tender they were able to be cut with a fork if needed. It was pretty quiet, especially considering the huge number of patrons! Some people in our group ate their dinner with their coats on, including me, because there was a cold breeze blowing across our backs, so of the 9 in our group, 4 kept their coats on. Great inviting atmosphere with great food and drinks. I Love coming there and I'm glad I followed the open table with my first visit.
