My wife loves Benihana and has loved it since she was a kid. We come yearly for her birthday. We had a great experience at the Bethesda Benihana and this time had the best Chef we've ever had-Cesar. He had lots of witty dialogue in addition to great skills. We love this Benihana.

NO FIRE! We did have a great time with great service but the kids love the fire of hibachi and they don't do fire here (something having to do with the electric cooktop or the vent). The scallops and beef were geat, so was the shrimp. The chicken wasn't great. Also, be aware, it's a big upcharge for fried rice.

My only complaint would be the timing / selection in which the food was cooked / served. Veggies were cooked after rice which was something I was not accustomed. I've eaten at several Japanese Steakhouses and the rice and veggies are usually served within minutes (2 - 3) of each other (rice, zucchini, onions). With your location onions were the last things to be served which was a bit odd since much of the rice/veggies were eaten already. Perhaps I'm a bit too picky but for this very reason, I would likely make this a last choice and share the same with anyone that may think about going.

Made a reservation on open table for 7:30 and ended up needing to go earlier because kids were hungry. Tried to rebook on open table and 6:00 was open but reservation would not go through. Got there at 5:20, restaurant was not busy at all but they said we couldn't sit at a hibachi table because they were expecting a large party at 6:00. They sat us in the regular seating area instead. I told them that the kids had never experienced this type of restaurant before and also about the open table issue. They didn't seem to really care. The large party didn't show up until 6:20 and we were wrapping up our party of 4 dinner by this time. Our 2 adult entrees came out first before the salad and were cold. Our child's dinner came out 20 minutes late

We reserved our table for 5 pm on a Wednesday, and we were the only table at first. The birthday girl got a $30 gift certificate from Benihana on line and when she ordered something less than $30, the chef suggested she order something for $30. We had a great time, the food was excellent and the chef was fun!

Thought it might be over overpriced, bad food, etc. actually quite the opposite. Freshest main course in quite a while! The service was great and the chef was very entertaining. Would have been more fun if we had brought an entire table of diners-we will try and do that next time.

  • Very Busy Night

    Dined on 11/1/2014
The food, and our Chef Sergio, were excellent. Our service was pretty poor. It appeared that there were several formal dances in the area, so I can understand it being busy which contributed to the poor service. We ran out of drinks 3-4 times, and our waiter was nowhere to be found. We grabbed a waitress from another table who brought us new drinks. We have been to Benihana's many times and usually have excellent service, so this was not the norm.

I never been to Benihana before but i've been to other hibachi restaurants that were much better than Benihana. The cook must have been new because there was no interaction with the people at the table, he cooked the food very slow as well. The food portion was horrible for the price that we paid. Normally when I go to these types of places I have food left over for the next day. This was not the case. It was so noisy and very bright for a Saturday night. This place is overrated and I will not be returning.

I was really disappointed by the service. The hostest was rude and very inattentive. There was no one to greet us goodbye and when I asked for the manger card, her attitude was very relaxed. The waiter was slow and also inattentive. The chef cooked for two hours and made mistakes during his performance. I was extremely disappointed knowing we spent close to $400.00 dollars. This was a lesson for my staff on poor customer service knowing this was our employee retreat dinner.

Dining at Benihana never disappoints. We had the pleasure of dining at Benihana this past weekend with another family. Our check Patillo was great and kept the kids' attention with his food tricks (erupting onion volcano, making symbols with rice he was preparing etc.). Don't come here if you want quiet. It's noisy but fun. Pricey but good eats -we'd definitely go again.

If you like to have dinner with a 100 noisy people and cooks you'll find this place to be perfect. Aside from that, and no exaggeration, the guy cooking the food albeit a friendly guy, cooked and served each and every item separately. It was the most unpleasant dining experience that we've had at a restaurant like this. He first cooked and served rice. Next he cooked & served some shrimp. Next, green & sliced squash. Next onions. Next mushrooms. Next beef, etc. All were literally cooked one right after the other such that you were eating only that item alone. It was the most unappetizing and ridiculous Tepenyaki we've ever experienced. And not once did anyone ever ask if we'd like another drink during our "meal." Never again!!!

Visited for my husband's birthday. Were seated with several other people at the teppanyaki table. Food was fresh (that included salmon, steak and sushi rolls) and cooked well. Pricey. Chef had some fun with food and utensils (kids seemed to like that). The place was very busy, several birthday parties, a LOT of noise. (Do not go Friday evening if have a headache after long work week). Some minor points- long sushi wait, no green tea (despite menu promise), hard to catch server could be chalked off for busy times. I would try again for lunch or happy hour. One plus: convenient (not free) public parking with plenty of free space right next to the restaurant- a relief in Bethesda on busy night.

I've always enjoyed Japanese hibachi dining, whether it's at Benihaha or some other establishment. I had a great time there this past Sat., 9/27. I had the Splash and Meadow dish, which consisted of steak and colossal shrimp along with other items. I finally got to see how fried egg pieces were added to fried rice, a mystery to me for a long time. My fellow diners were primarily my co-workers from our employer and couple who sat with us. I surveyed the rest of the room and I saw that many diners had also enjoyed their dinners, with one family wearing cooks' red hats. The last time I had visited a Benihaha property was in Honolulu over a decade ago, and I don't recall a whole lot about that evening as much I did this past Saturday's visit.

The food and cook were good, especially the filet mignon. We also had a sea bass which was pretty ordinary and not much flavor. There were a couple of very loud groups (college boys night out) next to our table so we asked to be moved which the server did. Our cook was very good and pleasant.

My husband and I dined there this Saturday...and will never return. There was a drunken frat party at the table next to is screaming and yelling and not once were they asked to have some respect for other people. The server was terrible; forgot to bring drinks, disappeared for most of dinner, and put things on our check that we didn't have (there's more but I don't have enough room to type it). The food was decent but nothing special. Next time I'll go to Sakura!

I was excited to go to Benihana's because I've heard so many good this about the company. You really are only paying for the name. It's comparable to Sakuar's or any similar restaurant but with high prices. I also went an hour before closing, so we got the bare minimum of a 'show'. Overall, good food but not worth prices.

This is the second time in a row this place has been horrible. It has really gone down. The chef didn't try or do any normal tricks. He was lackluster and didn't do any tricks they normally do. A couple with a child was at our table and he didn't do the egg or train of onions. Four filets were ordered and two of them that were cooked were not filets and the chef argued about it. Looking at them you could tell two were just the normal steaks and not the filet cut. The chef kept saying all were filets even though it was obvious they weren't.

I have been to this restaurant several times in the last few years and it gets worse and worse. The service is poor. During my last 2 visits, the appetizer was forgotten by the server. We sat at a full table for at least 20 minutes before anyone took our drink order. The cook was excellent and entertaining. However, the whole experience was exhausting and frustrating since the server didn't give him the right info. I don't think I can go through this again. Overpriced food served with so many mistakes that it's just not worth it anymore. My biggest complaint is that they now pack the tables with so many people that you can hardly move. I'm done.

My boyfriend and I went to Benihana - Bethesda to use my $30 birthday coupon. Though this wasn't my first time at a Benihana restaurant, it was my first time at the Bethesda location. The cocktails were superb, the chef's performance was humorous and impressive, and the food was to die for. It was pretty loud, so it was a little difficult to talk, but every other aspect of our experience was phenomenal. I would highly suggest Benihana - Bethesda, especially for a special occasion or celebration!

The food was seasoned and cooked well - between our group I tried the hibachi chicken, the shrimp, and a vegetarian dish. The chef was also attentive and entertaining and paid attention to special requests. I think what made the occasion stand out was their above and beyond attention to birthday celebrants. In addition to a free dessert, they give the party a free photograph of everyone at the restaurant. It's nothing extravagant, but I know my husband appreciated the gesture. Overall I'd come here again for another group occasion, though perhaps not a regular dinner outing (too noisy for lengthy conversation).

This latest visit to Benihana during a family trip to Washington DC convinced me that this is where to go for Hibachi. All of the ingredients looked fresh and top notch. Our chef got everyone's steak perfectly cooked while keeping all of us entertained. He paid attention and asked my wife whether she thought her "Rare" steak was done when she mentioned to me it seemed good. He also per my request kept the amount of Soy Sauce to minimal to keep the fried frice from becoming too salty. After this visit, will be visiting Benihana again! Especially this location!!
