Diner Reviews
  • "One of the best restaurants in the world - and we have eaten at many of the top. Canton has a real gem and we have never been disappointed."

  • "I've been to Benders multiple times in the past. This was not my favorite. The service was not as attentive and knowledgeable as usual and the food was not as great either. Luckily, I know this is not the norm."
    Dined on 4/4/2014
  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Bender's - from the quick history lesson with the bartender over cocktails, to wine recommendations from owner Jerry Jacob, to the meal suggestions from Donald (server for 25 years), to the tour of the wine cellar. Well done, Bender's!"
    Dined on 4/7/2014
  • "Our waitress, Stormy, was excellent. We will return as long as she is still working at the restaurant"

  • "An evening out to celebrate my daughter's and wife's birthdays. We had a nice table for four in one of the back rooms. The restaurant had a wonderful "old world" feel. The turtle soup was unique but very good and my daughter enjoyed the lobster bisque. My wife loved the shark with a little cajun flavor. The seared tuna was done to perfection according to my son-in-law. Everyone was pleased with their choices for dinner and specialty drinks and the evening was a success thanks to the excellent service and food. We would definitely return to try some of the other dishes or specials for the day."

  • "Our waitress, Mary, was outstanding and we will be sure to ask for her again the next time we dine."

  • "Never had a bad meal. Service is excellent and food is always delicious! Best place around for fresh seafood."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "We love the olden days and Bender's fits that to a "T" The food is excellent and the atmosphere is what we enjoy - that neighborhood bar feel."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "I took my wife there for her 50th b-day because she wanted to go to a new restaurant she had never been to. A couple friends joined us and we had a great time. Sea Bass, Haddock, and King Crab all were excellent. Stormy our server was engaging and entertaining. We will be back."

  • "Never disappoints. Food was outstanding. Best seafood dishes I'm aware of in Akron-Canton area."

  • "Lunch at Benders Tavern is an incredible value. Same excellent food discounted as compared to dinner prices."

  • "The atmosphere was a mixture of old class and modern foodie. I was as impressed with the staff as I was with the surroundings. They were extremely attentive and knowledgeable. The food was amazing. I read on a travel website that the Jerry fries were a must try. They were alright, nothing spectacular. They were very crispy curly fries with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. The food I recommend for a MUST try is their Creme brûlée! Without a doubt the best I have ever had! So much so that my boyfriend and I may make the four hour drive just for the brûlée again. Not a joke. Overall I highly recommend Benders for a special occasion, or even just a nice night out on the town."

  • "The atmosphere is what sets Bender's apart. You feel like you're going back in time, with the high, tin ceilings and dark wood. The food was good, but nothing really remarkable - pretty ordinary pasta and salad. Service was a little uneven: the waiter, who called us"baby" and other endearing names and rubbed my shoulder at one point, had to be reminded to bring the wine, and he mixed up our orders and our bills."
    Dined on 3/6/2014
  • "My wife and I are new to the area. We moved here from Chicago and had been searching for a dining experience that was a more like back home, and found it at Benders. Great food, elegant yet laid back ambience. A slightly overlooked swordfish was the only glitch to a perfect meal...and the white chocolate bread pudding was delicious!"

  • "I took my wife here for our 5 year anniversary. We had a wonderful time, great food and service. We didn't realize that they were hosting a special fund raiser event, which also meant they had a special menu. My wife was disappointed thinking that she wouldn't get to have her favorite dish (fresh flounder stuffed with crab) but we asked our waitress and the chef made it special. Very pleased with the entire experience. One of our favorites."

  • "We started at the bar and had some drinks. The bartender was on point and very friendly. When we were seated our waitress introduced herself right away and took our drink orders. The waitress was friendly and professional at all times. The food was a grandslam. We ordered the walleye, which came with brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were unusually great. The walleye was the best I've ever eaten at a restaurant. I can't wait to go back."

  • "Hands down best fine food, wine and dining experience in Canton area. There are many other fine restauarnts with more "screnery" but when it comes down to the actual food and presentation, this has establishment has a charm and elegance that doesn't compare to other venues in the area. Simply amazing."

  • "This was the best dining experience my husband and I have ever had. The atmosphere and food was unbelievable. We love history so the character of the building and the historical background was of great interest to us. The scallops from the New England states was so gooooood! Melted in your mouth! Wine selection was wonderful!"

  • "Tried reviewing accurately, but limited on characters, so: our server was bad(did not offer food details, specials, 20 minutes to get a drink, etc), but the server next to us was great (did everything our didn't). We ordered a strip and ribeye with two lobster tails, tails were good but steaks appeared to have been cooked on a flat top. My ribeye was thin, dry and somewhat overcooked, while the strip was just dry. Both unseasoned and bland. Valentine's Day meant our menu was "condensed" and on a sheet of construction paper. It did not list sides and our server only offered potatoes. Also dry. Because of the layout, with even half the tables empty, our room was quite loud because of the decor bouncing sounds. For $145 I expected much more."

  • "The restaurant, food, and service was impeccable, but the atmosphere and noise level that particular night was NOT what we wanted to experience for Valentine's Day. There was a particularly loud, obnoxious, and annoying "semi private" group we were seated close to. They had noise makers, kids musical instruments, and balloons that kept popping (on purpose) the ENTIRE dinner. It was definitely not the quite romantic evening we had anticipated for Valentine's Day. We didn't order dessert because we just wanted to get out of there. We probably would've tipped even higher had it not been for this group. Probably would've been a perfect evening if the atmosphere had been different."

  • "We were very disappointed with the food. Prices are very high, portions very small and very under seasoned. We can't say we would go there again anytime soon. Don't mind paying over 100 dollars if the food is good but we have been to other upscale resturants where the quality of the food was much better for the money."

  • "Everything was excellent. Many Canton born residents have no idea it exists. We loved it and we're telling everyone we know about it. We've been seeking out great seafood in our area and we've found our new spot."

  • "There is a reason Bender's has been around for 100 years - excellent seafood and steaks - a very special place. Don't miss the Praline Bacon appetizer!"

  • "The atmosphere was ok, thought it would be alot more quiet and romantic not really. My husband didnt like the scallops or the bender fries (too greasy) my prime rib was ok the cole slaw and rolls were good and baked potato. Prices were steep, probably wont return anytime soon."

  • "My Wife and I eat here often, Benders is a mainstay for our out of town Business Guests. John may have the best wine cellar around, and his special selections never disappoint. Although the Steaks are terrific, the Halibut Ala foli, is hands down the best halibut around., We've never had a guest be disappointed. I just ate there a few nights ago with 4 guests, and My wife and I are ready to go back. If there is a draw back it might be the noise., The main dining room is larger and offers some ability to speak in a normal tone, however the back dining areas are very difficult., Smaller with Granite walls, creates a challenging environment. We ask for main dining room for larger groups. Just Wife and I we like behind Bar Dining room."

  • "The ambience brings you back to a time when Canton was flourishing as a social and business hot bed. This creates a very positive vibe making the experience very enjoyable. Then to top it off the food was outstanding and the wine and alcohol selection is extensive. My wife enjoyed the South African Lobster tails and I ordered the crab stuffed Flounder both were fresh and tasted great. We finished with Key Lime pie. The friendly and attentive service made the evening even more enjoyable. I believe we have found a new Restaurant we will frequent."

  • "Benders in in Downtown Canton, Ohio. We have lived in Stark County and have never been there. We went there for New Years Eve with friends. Fantastic. This restaurant is charming and the waiter and food was excellent. Other staff members were also fantastic. We do recommend reservations, as they do get busy. Not really a place for kids, more for a special occasion. A must if you are in the area."

  • "I'm not much for one to write reviews, so I won't go on and on. This is a terrific place to dine. It's in the heart of downtown Canton, near Market Square. Started in 1902, you feel as if you've stepped back into time to enjoy fine dining as it was and still is. You will not be disappointed with the food and service here. You will love the Seafood and Steaks, and have the Turtle Soup, I loved it!"

  • "Great atmosphere and excellent food if you like seafood. Our waiter, Joe, was top notch. He was very knowlegeable about where food came from, how it was prepared. Same for cocktails. He was attentive but not hovering. Dinner is a bit pricey for most people in Canton. Lunches are more reasonable."
