ONLINE RESERVATIONS ARE LIMITED. PLEASE CALL THE RESTAURANT IF YOUR DESIRED TIME IS NOT AVAILABLE.

Bencotto offers 100% honest Northern Italian cuisine.

We are proud to offer 15 kinds of different hand-made pasta, fresh and hand-crafted 12 hours a day.

"Bencotto" means cooked well: this is what authentic Italian food is about.
Our menu is based on simplicity. It tastes as it should and would in Italy.

Bencotto offers two different eating environments: guests can either enjoy their meal at our “kitchen-esque” bar downstairs, or they can relax in the intimate low-ceiling dining area upstairs. The décor creates a clean and sophisticated atmosphere, where old-world charm and warmth blend with contemporary appeal.

We made a reservation for a birthday dinner for 6 diners. This is our second visit to Bencotto and it is a great place to have a meal. The pasta dishes are phenomenal; fresh made, different and unusual from the standard Italian fare. I enjoyed the special squid ink gnocchi with perfectly tender shrimp in lobster sauce. While others enjoyed the eggplant with marinara, chicken parmigiana and fettuccine with sausage. Everyone loved their dishes with the gnocchi being the clear winner. The ambiance is modern, yet the noise level is such that you can actually hear one another talking. The wait staff was helpful and had the table waiting for us when we arrived. Overall a great dining experience...and have the gnocchi.

One of the worse meals in a long time. After reading all reviews which were spectacular and voted best new San Diego restaurant my wife and I selected Bencotto. I ordered gnocchi with walnut Gorgonzola cream sauce my wife ordered their signature dish Osso Buco. Both dishes were absolutely terrible. The cream sauce was like eating paste it was so thick and the gnocchi was starchy and heavy. The Osso Buco lacked flavor and was loaded with fat. The only part of the meal we enjoyed was a bottle of Rossi dI montalcino. This was our first visit to Bencotto and will surely be our last.

The Ravioli pasta was outstanding. Disappointed in the Bencotto salad, too much dressing and some of the lettuce was wilted or not as fresh as it should be. Outdoor seating for 4 was rather cramped. Will try inside next visit. Service was good, answered allot of questions for our party of 4.

This restaurant has the most authentic Italian cuisine that we have found in San Diego in a long time. Their bolognese sauce is the closest to what we experienced in Florence Italy. The only reason I did not rate the service with 5 stars is that the people that were sat at a table near us monopolized our server's attention. The support staff was very good at keeping our water glasses filled and our meal moving.

Our group really enjoyed the meal and experience. One of them had been in Italy last year and the food was incredibly authentic. Several had the entrees, but the majority of us explored the small plate menu. It was DELICIOUS!! I really enjoyed the prosciutto and melon plate along with the arugula, meat, shaved parmesan and balsamic reduction. AMAZING!

First visit to this restaurant, recommended by a friend. Our appetizer gnocco fritto was phenomenal. We had chicken and shrimp dishes for our main course and had enough to bring home for lunch the next day. Pasta was fresh and excellent. Our waiter was very helpful with food choices and took care of everything we needed. A little pricey but worth the splurge. We will definitely be back.

As tourists, we were delighted to have this restaurant recommended to us by a resident. The food was exceptional, especially the tagliatelle with lamb ragu. Our only complaint was that our waiter recommended the squash blossom appetizer, which we ordered, only to find out 15 minutes later that they did not receive any squash blossoms that day. Logic tells me that the wait staff should be aware of such omissions.

Good Lord this is mediocre! I don't know if all the raving is blinded by the modern, industrial design or the faux pretense at the door, but this place is just mediocre. Mediocre is generous. The first rule of any kitchen is salt and the spoon. If a kitchen can't season properly (basic skill), dishes go out flat--no flavor...no nothin'. And the spoon---kitchens must taste the food that goes out. And the worst sin of all--nothing was fresh. So here we go: 1.The risotto balls---meh. Heavy, lackluster little fried rice things that really lack taste. Food was overcooked as to be inedible and not fresh at all.

You can't beat the homemade pasta at Bencotto. Everyone in our group loved their pasta dish. The pumpkin ravioli were huge, the gnocchi light and fluffy and the lasagna delicious. Dessert is also a treat here. The pannacotta was the best we'd ever had, and the semifriddo al pistachio was fabulous. It is noisy, but the service was great.

The pasta was so good! We also got the Barrata salad which was decent and the chicken parm. That was good too but we thought it was kind of weird that it came with mashed potatoes. I would definitely go back for the pasta alone! We sat outside and it dw cool but we did kind of get a sewer smell throughout the dinner.

We were seated upstairs on a weekday night and the restaurant was not full, but still extremely loud. It was actually difficult to hear each other and our waiter due to the noise. I don't recall it being so loud when I was seated downstairs in the past, so hopefully it's just worse upstairs. Our waiter was professional, attentive and courteous. The food was not as good this visit as it has been previously. Pasta dishes were still amazing, but the seafood items we had seemed less than fresh. Hopefully we'll have better luck next time.

Went spur of the moment on a Wednesday evening and it was packed l. We were seated right away with the help of a reservation. Everything was Good and our waitress was very nice. The bad part was waiting for our main dish, and waiting and waiting. Finally the waitress informed us of some sort of kitchen issue/backup. Needless to say it took a good hour and half from sitting down to getting our dinner. But hey, I'll still go back.

Best Italian I've ever had in a restaurant. I lived in an Italian neighbourhood growing up and indulged in the finest homemade with Italian born grandmas making gnocchi and sauces etc..from scratch so my expectations are really high. Bencotto exceeded those expectations. We ordered the Burrata and gnocchi..totally melt in your mouth. Pappardelle so fresh. Pink pancetta sauce and spicy italian sausage excellent. My friend ordered the panna cotta and it was sooo creamy served with raspberry puree. Too bad I don't live in San Diego, there's no doubt I would be a regular!

If you enjoy shouting across a table of four and being surrounded by loud diners this is the place for you! The decor is industrial = steel and concrete with no soft furnishings to absorb the incessant racket. We had requested a quiet table inside - I don't think such a thing exists! Our waiter was excellent but an over exuberant server kept trying to remove dishes before we had finished. We wanted to mop up every last bit of several delicious sauces. Loved the BYO wine option. The starters we shared were excellent and my main course dish - from the daily menu, extraordinary. I think the others only rated their food as average. The dessert menu looked exciting but we were too full to try it.

Read several good reviews about Bencotto, so wanted to give it a try. Had an 8:00 reservation on a Thursday night. Table was ready, but no parking available nearby -- had to search 15 minutes to park. Once seated, waitress seemed to have too many tables to serve, as service was VERY slow. Took very long time to receive bread and place order. Server forgot to bring the wine we requested, and had to be reminded not only that we had ordered wine, but what we ordered. The wine arrived AFTER our meal arrived. The food was good but not great. The freshly made pasta was a noticeable difference, but the sauces, and the rest did not meet the expectations set by the other reviews. Would try someplace in Little Italy before coming back.

This place lacks ambiance and the food was over-salted and lacked flavor. Our waitress replaced the words, "You're welcome. " with "Yah." and although she was pleasant, seemed disinterested overall. Being from out of town, I don't know what the building's previous use was, but little was spent on the remodel. White walls and plastic furniture and a very strange chopped up interior. They tout homemade pasta but unfortunately the four different dishes we ordered were so salty the pasta didn't matter. I would scratch this place off your list despite the rrviews.

I love seafood, so I ordered cioppino. The tomato base had a good flavor, albeit not a hint of seafood. Although the cioppino had a generous amount of fish and shrimp, it was all overcooked. The frozen cioppino at Trader Joe's is better. My date had the tagliatelle bolognese. She thought it was fabulous. We ordered the stuffed squash blossoms from the specials menu, but they were out of them - even though we were there before 6 PM. So, we tried the stuffed, fried olives, which were good.
