Bencotto offers 100% honest Northern Italian cuisine.

We are proud to offer 15 kinds of different hand-made pasta, fresh and hand-crafted 12 hours a day.

"Bencotto" means cooked well: this is what authentic Italian food is about.
Our menu is based on simplicity. It tastes as it should and would in Italy.

Bencotto offers two different eating environments: guests can either enjoy their meal at our “kitchen-esque” bar downstairs, or they can relax in the intimate low-ceiling dining area upstairs. My wife enjoyed our 3rd trip here last Saturday. We had 6:30 pm reservations but arrived a bit early and were pleasantly suprised when we could be seated right away. Dinner was amazing, as it had been the other two times before. All the pastas are hand made and delicious! My wife had the hanger steak that was seasoned perfectly. We also had a Great bottle of Temparnillo wine to go with the meal that was awesome. All in all it was a Great dinner....Excellent food and excellent service.

Great food and service, the lamb chop was amazing, so tender, the wife had the eggplant, awesome! David F was our server and he was really cool, friendly and efficient, an outstanding representative of this really great restaurant. We'll be back. They even called next day to make sure we had a good dinner, how's that for service!

On the end of a vacation, staying near Little Italy. This restaurant picked from Open Table reviews. It was perfect with wonderful pasta, especially the "pasta your way". We also HIGHLY recommend the Salumi appetizer with the gnoccho frito! The only down side was a pretty loud group, but then it was Friday night. We'll be back.

I took my girlfriend to Bencotto and had a terrific time. She had been there a few times with girlfriends and kept telling me that I needed to give it a try. We attempted getting a table one night on a whim which wasn't such a good idea; the restaurant is well-known and hard to get into without a reservation well in advance. Thank you, OpenTable! (Essential app if you don't already have it.) The food is excellent and so is the service. I believe our waiter that evening was David who was extremely helpful in accommodating us with allergin options. I fully plan on dining here in the near future to try other dishes. Great job!

Really great dining experience. I've been waiting to try Bencotto since I moved down to SD. Make a reservation in advance because it books up quick. We arrived early and had to wait, so we got a glass of wine at the bar. The bar is small and crowded, not the most ideal place to linger and wait but it was fine. We got seated before our reservation time and started with a bottle of wine, stuffed olives and the rice balls. Very good. We asked our waiter for recommendations and got the lamb ragout special and the tagliatelle with the Bencotto sauce, which is a pink pancetta sauce. So enjoyable. We ended with the trio of cannolis and they were great too. Can't wait to go back

Gnocchi is one of our favorite dishes and we order it whenever we see it on a menu. Most of the time they are too tough but this place knows how to do gnocchi the right way. I had the Gnocchi Nero special - squid ink gnocchi in a lobster bisque sauce with bits of shrimp. Very rich and very yummy. We also had the regular gnocchi with a salsiccia sauce. The sauce had a deep, rich flavor. The portions are HUGE. We both took home half of our dishes (both made a perfect breakfast the next morning!!!)

First time eating here, we came from out of town and picked it because of the list of hand-made pasta. We had the stuffed olives for an appetizer and I had the fettuccine with bolognese. Both were delicious! Service was wonderful, the atmosphere was very nice. I would definitely recommend to others and will definitely go back next time I am in San Diego.

If you are looking for the best Italian food in San Diego, then you must try Bencotto. We started with deep fried olives that were stuffed with pork, then had a caprese salad that was not only beautiful, but fresh and yummy. I had ravioli that tasted like the ones we ate while in Italy. My husband had the gnocchi and it was also perfect. The desserts all looked divine and we chose a flourless almond cake that was served warm with a side of mascarpone. I highly recommend this restaurant, the service was great, they have a full bar and cool cocktails and the food is out of this world Italian!

I had heard that Bencottos pasta was inspired. The pasta was very good but both my pasta and my husband's came drowned in sauce. I would also say that this is a restaurant focused on pasta. The rest of the menu felt limited. Perhaps my problem is that I as expecting something more upscale. At any rate, this wasn't a hit for us and we won't be back.

I was visiting from out of town and was very excited to try this recent addition to Little Italy. The food was not impressive. The parmigiano appetizer was disappointing. The cheese was bland, lacking the nutty complexity you expect from this cheese. The pasta was mushy and the flavor of the Bolognese was lacking.

I was responsible for picking a restaurant for dinner with two colleagues and friends who would be flying in from the UK. Bencotto delivered in spades. The wine list is varied and reasonably priced. I highly recommend the squash blossoms as well as any of the pastas. The tagliatelle was particularly memorable.

We made a reservation for a birthday dinner for 6 diners. This is our second visit to Bencotto and it is a great place to have a meal. The pasta dishes are phenomenal; fresh made, different and unusual from the standard Italian fare. I enjoyed the special squid ink gnocchi with perfectly tender shrimp in lobster sauce. While others enjoyed the eggplant with marinara, chicken parmigiana and fettuccine with sausage. Everyone loved their dishes with the gnocchi being the clear winner. The ambiance is modern, yet the noise level is such that you can actually hear one another talking. The wait staff was helpful and had the table waiting for us when we arrived. Overall a great dining experience...and have the gnocchi.

One of the worse meals in a long time. After reading all reviews which were spectacular and voted best new San Diego restaurant my wife and I selected Bencotto. I ordered gnocchi with walnut Gorgonzola cream sauce my wife ordered their signature dish Osso Buco. Both dishes were absolutely terrible. The cream sauce was like eating paste it was so thick and the gnocchi was starchy and heavy. The Osso Buco lacked flavor and was loaded with fat. The only part of the meal we enjoyed was a bottle of Rossi dI montalcino. This was our first visit to Bencotto and will surely be our last.

The Ravioli pasta was outstanding. Disappointed in the Bencotto salad, too much dressing and some of the lettuce was wilted or not as fresh as it should be. Outdoor seating for 4 was rather cramped. Will try inside next visit. Service was good, answered allot of questions for our party of 4.

This restaurant has the most authentic Italian cuisine that we have found in San Diego in a long time. Their bolognese sauce is the closest to what we experienced in Florence Italy. The only reason I did not rate the service with 5 stars is that the people that were sat at a table near us monopolized our server's attention. The support staff was very good at keeping our water glasses filled and our meal moving.

As tourists, we were delighted to have this restaurant recommended to us by a resident. The food was exceptional, especially the tagliatelle with lamb ragu. Our only complaint was that our waiter recommended the squash blossom appetizer, which we ordered, only to find out 15 minutes later that they did not receive any squash blossoms that day. Logic tells me that the wait staff should be aware of such omissions.

Good Lord this is mediocre! I don't know if all the raving is blinded by the modern, industrial design or the faux pretense at the door, but this place is just mediocre. Mediocre is generous. The first rule of any kitchen is salt and the spoon. If a kitchen can't season properly (basic skill), dishes go out flat--no flavor...no nothin'. And the spoon---kitchens must taste the food that goes out. And the worst sin of all--nothing was fresh. So here we go: 1.The risotto balls---meh. Heavy, lackluster little fried rice things that really lack taste. Food was overcooked as to be inedible and not fresh at all.

We were seated upstairs on a weekday night and the restaurant was not full, but still extremely loud. It was actually difficult to hear each other and our waiter due to the noise. I don't recall it being so loud when I was seated downstairs in the past, so hopefully it's just worse upstairs. Our waiter was professional, attentive and courteous. The food was not as good this visit as it has been previously. Pasta dishes were still amazing, but the seafood items we had seemed less than fresh. Hopefully we'll have better luck next time.
