Bencotto offers 100% honest Northern Italian cuisine.

We are proud to offer 15 kinds of different hand-made pasta, fresh and hand-crafted 12 hours a day.

"Bencotto" means cooked well: this is what authentic Italian food is about.
Our menu is based on simplicity. It tastes as it should and would in Italy.

Bencotto offers two different eating environments: guests can either enjoy their meal at our “kitchen-esque” bar downstairs, or they can relax in the intimate low-ceiling dining area upstairs. The décor creates a clean and sophisticated atmosphere, where old-world charm and warmth blend with contemporary appeal.

We have been here twice now and love this restaurant, awesome pasta dishes with tons of flavor. We had shrimp with squid ink pasta and pumpkin ravioli, both great dishes! Fresh bread and a very tasty Ceasar salad. A must try!

I really enjoyed the food. The pasta was fresh and the sauces were very tasty. The meats and cheeses were good, but - dare I say - average. The wines and cocktails were great, and our server was knowledgeable about everything on the menu and the wine list. I had the special-a lamb ragu, our friends got the pink and pesto--all three were very well prepared. The only one we didn't enjoy was the bolognese--it wasn't to my liking, but, it may be to yours! I highly recommend this place! I will say, the outside seating leaves a bit to be desired, it's too cramped. Dine inside.

Truly a great dining experience. The service was impeccable. Our server Dan made excellent recommendations, was pleasant and attentive. ALL of the staff really seemed to work well together and things ran smoothly. The food was superb! We each had the zucchini soup as a starter and that alone is reason to return. For dinner I had the gnocchi with chicken and an Alfredo like sauce and my fiancé had a pesto with shrimp and pasta. Both meals came out with perfect timing and piping hot. We will definitely be recommending Bencotto to others.

My husband and I were visiting San Diego, and I was craving some Italian food. This place was perfect! It was delicious, our server gave us great advice on some different things to try. I really would recommend going there! Then, they called the next day to thank us for dining with them! Really enjoyed it.

Read about this place on the Best of in San Diego Magazine.....what a great find! The appetizers were unique, fresh and tasty. The two pasta dishes we had were likewise, fresh, hot and tasty, with unique sauce on them. The layout of the place is somewhat disjointed but that does NOT take away from the great food. It is not

Bencotto Italian Kitchen never fails to impress. The prosciutto from the red wheel slicers , with Buratta and the Gnocco Fritto blow everyone we take there away. The pasta is to die for. We do not really love heavy Lasagnas from most restaurants, but we love Bencoto's; so light and completely different from anywhere else. You can't lose by trying Bencotto, and I predict you will be back.

Totally on a whim, I booked a reservation at this lovely kitchen simply due to the fresh pasta made to order they serve. Being from out of town I wanted a great place to eat. A friend of mine heard of it before, and was proud of my ability to book a table at a great place, with great food. We both enjoyed a simple caprese salad, which was fresh, tasty, and had a huge chunk of cheese. The best! I had a special pumpkin amaretto ravioli, which in a word was TO DIE FOR, while I was so into my own dish, I forgot what my partner had. Service was great, very friendly, our server had an authentic accent which made me feel even more in Little Italy, everyone smiled, waters were refilled on time. Everything was great and fast!

  • Dining at Bencotto

It was our first time dining at Bencotto. It was very busy for a Tuesday night so I think reservations would be highly recommended for a Thursday-Saturday night. The service was impeccable from the time we checked in until the time we left. The MELANZANE ALLA PARMIGIANA was outstanding as a shared appetizer and would probably be a wonderful entree served with a side of pasta. The pasta was obviously homemade as was the sauce (we had the ARRABBIATA and the SUMMER) and was cooked to perfection. Both of our dishes were wonderful. We shared a salad (INSALATA MISTA) due to its generous size. Our server was engaging and excellent overall and we never felt rushed. We would highly recommend this restaurant to all of our friends and family!

Second time at Bencotto and not as pleasant as the first time. Service was slow even though place was not full. No napkins or flatware on the tables.... had to ask for napkin after appetizer was served. We had lasagne and breaded chicken for dinner. Lasagne was very good, chicken was SO disapointing. A big glob of dry mash potatoes served as a side with the chicken.... seriously... I wanted great Italian, not comfort food. Not sure if I'll return. Plenty of choices in Little Italy.

We had a wonderful dinner here with the kids. We had a table on the right side of the entrance which was a small area and therefore not as busy/crowded as the bar area on the left. Our waitress knew the menu well and was able to answer questions regarding allergies and to recommend which pasta for which sauce.

Bencotto's was our 2nd choice based on ratings as we could not get a reservation at the top rated Italian restaurant. I was never more happy NOT being able to make a reservation. From the wine to the desert, it was the BEST meal we have ever had. The prescuitto and aged cheese appetizer is a must. The presciutto was freshly cut & so lean and thinly cut, and along with the 24 and 40 month Reggianno, words can not do it justice. We also had the baked zucchini and cheese which was amazing. Our main course, pumpkin ravioli (awesome) and the 3 cannoli desert met the same standards. We had a bottle of 2009 Napa Cabernet and our total bill w/tip was $160. Our waiter Daniel gave us great service and excellent recommendations. ENJOY!

The food was fantastic with the gnocci being the gem on the menu. The wine list was mediocre. We had a chianti that wasn't very good abd you can't really mess up in chianti. We went on a Friday abd gad a reservation (you'll want one on a weekend). We got seated at probably the wirst rabke tgere - right next to the bar and front door. We had people bumping us all night. If you make reservation ask for a table upstairs. It was very loud but that is how the restaurant is set up, so if you want romantic this is not the place to go. Our service was not great. Whike nice they were hringing out our food so fast we bareky had time to vrwathe between each course (we did 4 courses). Worth another try.

I would give a 3.5 if I could but I ll round up instead. 3 out of 4 main courses were great. Unfortunately, this was the first time I was disappointed. I got the gnocchi stuffed with Gorgonzola cheese with the bencotto sauce. The cheese was overpowering and not that tasty (and I never thought there is anything such as too much cheese). The squid based ink pasta however someone else from the table ordered was good just like every other time.

Check-in was amazingly fast and friendly. We were a few minutes late but we were seated right away. I had previously mentioned I would be bringing my dog so they reserved a nice table outside. I was a hesitant to sit outside due to the cold weather but it was shockingly warm because of the heaters they had strategically placed outside. The food was nothing short of amazing, which is not surprising. We have come here twice now and ordered the same thing, gnocchi and squid ink pasta. No one else can make it better!
