We came for lunch on a weekday. The service was attentive but not intrusive. By the time we had our mains the place was nearly full. We were not rushed but did not have to wait a huge amount of time for courses to arrive. The food was fantastic. I had a lovely salad with fresh interesting ingredients. You can see a view of the nicely landscaped campus grounds and the escarpment from anywhere in the restaurant. One of the chefs can be seen doing final prep as you eat. Highly recommended and reasonably priced for the quality of the meal.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA gem at Niagara CollegeAfter a day of wine tasting and driving we came to Benchmark ready to feast! The food was excellent, the wine very good and the pairings right on the money! The very first bite of our crustini with smoked salmon, before the appetizer created a pleasurable dance on the tongue and the rest of the courses followed up the scale of enjoyment! The service was efficient and friendly and
most of the food was excellent. However my first course (a soup) was burned. Apparently the cooks burned the whole pot and I had to settle for the second soup choice of the night. Luckily, the rest of the meal was very delicious. While we enjoyed the meal and the evening, we felt the prices were a bit high for a "teaching" restaurant. When paying that level of price, you don't expect to have issues like that. The food is outstanding. I had pan seared halibut; the best halibut I have ever tasted - cooked simply and not overly flavoured by herbs which let the sweetness of the fish come through The list is notable in that it is well priced and restricted to local well made wines. Everything about the place was outstanding. Food was amazing. My wife and I did the table d'hote with wine pairings, and will definitely do it again. Only reason service got 4 stars was due to us being seated, followed by another group being seated about 2 minutes after us, yet the other group got their order taken first. Thankfully, that was the only service blunder of the evening and the wait staff was friendly and polite and every course came out quickly after the previous.

Service was a bit slow, but very professional and very friendly wait staff. Nice decor but the room is quite large and very high ceiling so does tend to be a bit noisy when full!
