A word from Benchmark Restaurant
Located in the heart of Brooklyn's Park Slope, Benchmark features a New American menu focused on pasture-raised animals and locally-grown produce. Chef Ryan Jaronik has created a diverse menu that melds the traditional and the contemporary with global influences. Featured is a section of à la carte steaks and chops offering up to five different cuts, including a 24oz Bone-in Ribeye and an 11oz Filet Mignon. Other favorites include Duck Confit Salad with Frisée, Lardons and a Poached Egg and a Trio of Beef Shortribs.

Between the '20s & '40s, the space that now occupies Benchmark was used as an icehouse and major way station for goods that that arrived on the banks of the Gowanas Canal. While excavating, several "benchmarks" (surveyor's marks) were found, along with architects' tools, some of which are displayed on the restaurant's walls. Benchmark's rich history and naturally rustic interior is enhanced by warm exposed brick, arched windows and spacious garden seating.

  • "We had 3 of the apps; scallops, foie gras, & the spicy lobster salad. The scallops were perfectly cooked. A nice crisp to the outside edges with an inside that simply melted on your tongue. The foie gras was delicious! I could see where some people might find it a little sweet but for me it was perfect; the creamy fat texture with the sweetness of the caramel & then the welcome crunch from the nuts. So damn good! Duck was very good. Rib eye was ok. Bread pudding dessert was yummy. Our sides were disappointing. Roasted potatoes w/ habanero salsa; the potatoes were perfectly cooked & good but habenero salsa was honestly just a pureè plopped on top. Spicy without much flavor. Brussel sprouts with very tasty but 2 big a bite. Drunks were meh."

  • "I live in Park Slope and had passed by this restaurant several times without ever visiting. But I was looking for a local restaurant that was participating in NYC Restaurant Week, and this was one of the few in the neighborhood. I was pleasantly surprised at the nice atmosphere (we ate outside) and the good food. My husband and I both ordered the filet mignon and it was perfectly cooked, and a generous serving. We will definitely be back. Service was a bit slow, but I give them a pass because of the busy Restaurant Week atmosphere."

  • "The food was great (although my Kobe steak was overcooked and I hate to send good back but I had to), the waiter "J" wasn't very attentive however he had a lot of tables that were outside. We had to ask the runner for bread but it was amazing. It was great ambiance which made the 1 hour wait for dinner not so bad. I also had a kentucy bourbon barrel ale which was amazing and that went well with the sea scallops. This was a mixed review but will definitely give it another go. PS I went for the restaurant week menu but ordered from off of the main menu."

  • "Dined here for restaurant week. Thought the food was creative and solid. I had the chilled pea lobster soup, the filet mignon, and the panna cotta. The soup could have had a little more cream to make for a more rounded flavor, but it was refreshing. The highlight of the filet mignon for me was the mashed potatoes and onion rings. The panna cotta was too heavy for me, but I enjoyed the homemade butter scotch ice cream. I found our waitress to be extremely pleasant and attentive. Definitely a great local spot for a romantic and/or steak dinner."

  • "I cannot say enough about Benchmark. It is truly a hidden gem in Park Slope. We only ate appetizers, so I need to go back and experience the full menu, but the scallops and the trio of braised beef were SUPERB! For dessert we shared the cookie dough egg roll - OMG. I am drooling as I write this review. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place and WILL GO BACK ASAP. The waiter was on point with every recommendation."

  • "I've been trying to get to this restaurant and finally went. It's right off 5th Ave in Park Slope, I'm sure I passed it several times without even knowing. I love that they have an outdoor patio section. My Southern punch cocktail was so tasty that I wished I was down in New Orleans. The scallops and tuna were super fresh and the risotto was not hard like most places I've had it. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and will definitely be back for more. They even have a $1 oyster special."

(The outdoor area is away from the street in what might have been a long driveway - renovation turned it into a lovely terrace-like space) As we were there early, it was quiet, a plus. Pricy but worth it, especially as part of it came home with us. (Steak and salmon, mushroom speatzle side. Recommend all) On the whole, pretty close to perfect. Looking forward to going back."

  • "My boyfriend and I took our mothers here after a show in the city for a belated Mother's Day celebration (my mom lives out of town) and it was such a nice experience. It was 6pm so not too crowded--we sat inside. Our server was very friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable about the menu. The portions were smaller than I thought they would be, but it was the perfect amount of food and the presentation made me want to photograph it, not eat it. We had the trio of beef short ribs, grass-fed filet mignon, ahi-tuna, and kobe culotte steak--all were delicious! We will definitely be coming back."

The food was delicious, like savor every bit cuz you don't want the beautiful mix of flavors to leave your tastebuds good. The fig & burrata salad was oh my goodness, the wine suggestion perfectly complimented every bite, the bread&flavored butter (maybe paprika in there?) was great to sop up the balsamic &fig juices, the filet mignon was exactly what I'd been dreaming about for days before, the sea salt sprinkled on top was just right, the goat cheese potato puree was creamy&delicious, the creamed spinach tasted just like Mom made when I was a kid. A perfect bday dinner! Only thing I'd add is an A1 sauce option=) Will def be back!"

  • "Went there for mothers day brunch. 45 minute wait despite reservations. Food was bland and cold. The server dripped something off of our plate from the kitchen all the way to the table. The hostesses were sweet but ineffective. Staff was friendly but clearly overwhelmed. Plus side they offered free drinks to compensate. But I will not return."

  • "We had the 3 course and chose the Field Greens Salad, Asparagus Salad and Goats Milk Yogurt with Granola as starters--all were very good. Second course we had the Strawberry Stuffed French Toast, Lobster Omelette and Crab Cake Benedict--again, all very tasty, rich and filling. We really could have skipped the desert course, but what we were able to eat was great. Our waiter was fantastic--would recommend and go again."

  • "The food is always great! You cannot go wrong with the Foi Gras, the dry-aged steak for two, and their mashed potates. We have a date night once a month and this is always where we want to go! The one thing I wouldn't get is the burger. He wanted to switch it up so he got the burger. He did not like it. They are know for the meats, stick with the steak and duck! You will not be disappointed."

  • "The food is excellent and the service is generally good. BUT they manage to do things that just don't sit well: WHY is there a $2 charge for a small bowl of steak sauce? Is that REALLY necessary? And even more annoyingly, WHY is there a $2 charge for a substitution? There are extra labor costs associated with not putting one side dish on a plate and using a different one? It's not like the place is cheap to begin with. It just makes one feel that they think we are suckers to be fleeced, a nickel or a dime at a time."

  • "Actually only I had a steak and others with me had fish. My steak was cooked exactly as ordered. The fish dishes were great(I did try them) and the wine list was full. You could order some expensive bottles but they had a great assortment of moderately priced wines. Side dishes were right on the money and everyone left full. A couple even were too full to finish and took doggy bags home. We will be back with food and service like this, you feel so welcome."
