A word from Benchmark Restaurant
Located in the heart of Brooklyn's Park Slope, Benchmark features a New American menu focused on pasture-raised animals and locally-grown produce. Chef Ryan Jaronik has created a diverse menu that melds the traditional and the contemporary with global influences. Featured is a section of à la carte steaks and chops offering up to five different cuts, including a 24oz Bone-in Ribeye and an 11oz Filet Mignon. Other favorites include Duck Confit Salad with Frisée, Lardons and a Poached Egg and a Trio of Beef Shortribs.

Between the '20s & '40s, the space that now occupies Benchmark was used as an icehouse and major way station for goods that that arrived on the banks of the Gowanas Canal. While excavating, several "benchmarks" (surveyor's marks) were found, along with architects' tools, some of which are displayed on the restaurant's walls. Benchmark's rich history and naturally rustic interior is enhanced by warm exposed brick, arched windows and spacious garden seating.

  • "My husband picked this restaurant to celebrate his birthday with his family; we were delighted to get reservations. We did want to eat outdoors but the tables did not accomodate a party of five. It was offerred to add a 5th chair to the end of a table but we thought it wold be too crowded. We had a wonderful table indoors and had a lovely time but if larger party accomodations can be made for outdoor dining that would be great! Next time when making the reservation that will be suggested!"

  • "Benchmark is very well executed modern American cuisine. The scallops, foie gras, short ribs, and duck confit are excellent was to start out the meal. The entrees are equally excellent. They have a huge wine list and half off wines on Monday nights. That allowed me to have some super wines including 1978 and 1988 Silver Oak cab at reasonable prices. The only thing that I would do differently is dessert. That part of the menu needs to be rethought. Luckily, I don't eat much dessert so it doesn't matter. I highly recommend Benchmark."

  • "Not sure whether to consider this place a steakhouse. If I do, then they got off to a very bad start for having carefully measured theirr drinks . . . Nothing like the generous pour most would expect. The steak and spinnach were both very good, but the "home fries" wre strange and bad. Non steak items others ordered were good. Overall, I guess it's a decent place for red meat, but it's no Luger."

  • "I came here with my 10 year old son who is a real steak lover and is already a foodie. The food and service were outstanding. The American kobe beef was very tender and flavorful. And the filet mignon was one of the best I have ever tried. Our server was very friendly and helpful and the rest of the staff was very welcoming. I would not say this was a great place for younger children. The vibe there is pretty mellow but we felt right at home."

  • "Living in NYC it can be near impossible to find a restaurant with the perfect combination of tasty food, genuine, attentive service, and cool, but not pretentious vibe. Benchmark in Park Slope is that restaurant. Where do I start? The wine list is forward thinking and diverse.The food is both modern and comforting. Favorite dishes include the scallops appetizer (over risotto, no less), the lobster salad appetizer (I love the heat of the jalapeños), any of their perfectly cooked cuts of steak, and the creamed spinach side (trust me on this one). Their signature dessert is a CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DOUGH EGG ROLL with house made cappuccino ice cream. Nuff said. The staff and their warm, welcoming vibe make the night. Do not pass this place up."

  • "I'd been out of town for more of RW and didn't want to travel into Manhattan from Brooklyn. Benchmark was one of two Brooklyn eateries with a NYC RW menu, so we gave it a try.. Great food, extraordinary service. The dining room space was a little tight - usually they use an outdoor heated patio but it was too cold. Otherwise, a wonderful dining experience."

  • "We had a 8:30 reservation for Restaurant Week. We arrived on time and the hostess said if we wanted a table inside, it would be a 25 minute wait. They had my phone number, but never bothered to call. Our options were to wait for the table, sit at the bar, or sit at a table outside. No apology. We were going to sit at the bar when she told us they just replaced the propane tank for the heater so we sat outside. I ordered a glass of the tempranillo but was told they ran out (and the malbec too). We ordered the filet mignon, which consisted of 2 hacked up slabs of meat and and horseradish mashed potatoes, which were inedible. The creamed brussels sprouts that came with the dish were left off the plate. We will not be returning."

  • "I know this is new york and we all live on top of each other, but sometimes it's just a little too much. The food we had was good, the filet and scallops were perfectly cooked, but the mash and the mac and cheese we're good but not great. The proteins are most important (read pricey) so maybe it doesn't matter that the sides could have been better. The real problem was the number of people packed into the dining room and the accompanying noise. They have a nice patio which probably deals with the overcrowding issue during the non-polar-vortex-season. Bottom line, if you want a perfectly cooked steak you're in luck at Benchmark, if you want to be able to talk to the person across the table from you, there may be a better option."

  • "We had Thanksgiving dinner here one year and sat outside (where they put the overflow in the winter) and it was great. There were heaters and we had no issues other than maybe being a tad chilly. My husband and I just ate here for restaurant week and although the food was GREAT, the dining experience was sub par largely due to space constrictions in the restaurant. They tried to seat us in the very middle of a long row of itty bitty tables. We would have been forced to bother other diners and make them get up for us to be seated. They really need to take out a couple of those tables so everyone doesn't have to be on top of each other. Even once seated, we were sitting inches from the people next to us. Very uncomfortable dining situation."

  • "I left the hustle and bustle of Manhattan in search of something more quaint and less pretentious than the plethora of restaurants found in sub-Harlem Manhattan, then and I came across the Benchmark though NYC's restaurant week website. It was one of a handful of restaurants participating in this two week special event. However, to my surprise I was going to have to fork over more than I initially expected (Admittedly, I did get the most expensive item on the menu, but other options were a bit pricey). Nevertheless, this should not discourage anyone wanting to eat great excellently prepared food outside of Manhattan, with excellent service, and an extensive list of wines. This is maybe best reserved for a special occasion."

  • "Great night. I ordered the Braised Beef Short Rib appetizer which was one of the best things I have ever tasted. She got the Seared Scallops. I am no scallop connoisseur but to me it tasted amazing. My date agreed and she knows her scallops For the main we both ordered the Filet Minion which was perfectly prepared. The addition of the horseradish potato puree was a perfect touch. My only minor complaint for the evening is that the addition of something like asparagus would have made it perfect. I am not much of a Dessert person but the Cookie Dow Eggroll was very unique and tasty. The atmosphere was vibrant without being load. The wait staff was attentive without being overbearing. Basically a perfect experience"

  • "I decided to go during restaurant week and I must say my appetizer and my main course was superb. Seared Maine Diver Scallops- was WONDERFUL..very tasteful although very simplistic. Grass-fed Filet Mignon - I had my steak medium and boy oh boy was it good. I would def recommend you go and check it out and it's located in the best borough of all times "Brooklyn." The decor was really great but the seating is really tight inside of the restaurant but overall it's a place worth trying. Go for it"

  • "I went with a friend on a Monday night during Restaurant Week. Our server helped us pick a lovely red wine, which turned out to be half price (a special Benchmark runs on Mondays). We sat outside in the heated tent and were very comfortable. Our food was delicious (scallop app, braised beef app, filet mignon entree, tune entree). Everything was seasoned just right. My dessert hit the spot (cookie dough egg roll), but my friend's was a bit too rich (chocolate ganache?). I would definitely recommend Benchmark and can't wait to go back."

  • "My husband and I picked this spot for Restaurant Week because the menu looked interesting, it's in our neighborhood (more or less), and it served the RW menu on Sunday evening. The service was friendly and accommodating and the space was nice, but the food was not particularly exciting. The scallops and filet were nicely cooked and good overall, but our other dishes-- a short rib and a seared tuna-- were just so-so. Everything needed a bit more seasoning, especially the sides, and the tuna came with a side of black beans, which seemed like an odd pairing. The wine list, as advertised, is extensive and fairly well-chosen, but there didn't seem to be a sommelier on hand to help with wine selections."

  • "My experience here was Pleasant. Our server was very attentive, but he was only one there and it was lunch time we waited for about 30 minutes for food which i think is a bit unreasonable. The food itself, was yummy but nothing over the top. If you want to go to a quiet place with comfy seating and decent food, it's not the worst. For for all the Hype, I didn't get what people are going so crazy about."

  • "The Benchmark is a place that isn't pretentious but has every right to be. The food has a common trait of being delicious and smart, always delivering a playful range of notes and tastes. The staff was attentive, warm, and helpful, making the experience of going there that much more pleasant. My wine and water were always topped off at the right time, and the polite remarks and patience they had when the restaurant was busy showed great demeanor on behalf of the establishment. I enjoy the low key but resourceful implication of the namesake built into the ambiance. The decor was easy on the eyes, never boring, and exuded a firm tone of class. It was my second time eating here and, after establishing the first was no fluke, I will be back"

The only difficulties you might have are deciding what delicious menu selections to choose and making ti through the expansive wine list. Truly superb.
