Happy Hour and lunch menu
awesome!! Delicious food and good variety of different items!! Overall very good!!"

The food was delicious. When I
said delicious it has the originality of Indian taste unlike other Indian restaurants, the dish doesnt taste the originality of what its supposed to. They modify the dish and call it a name which is not true. The manager of the restaurant was really courteous and professional in greeting customers, checking on them, waiters are very professional and my overall experience is A+"

This was a great find.
Well-executed Indian food from a menu which included the "traditional favorites" but also had a range of choices not typically found at the local curry house. The food was presented very well, and the serving staff were most attentive."

I had a great experience dining at
Benares for Fathers' Day last year and have been meaning to write a review for months now. I went with my husband, my parents and my in-laws. The food was really delicious and the menu items were unique and presented beautifully. The service was excellent; so attentive. Being Indian and having eaten at many different Indian restaurants as well as having great home cooking, we are picky about Indian food and we all were very happy with Benares. Definitely recommend!"

The restaurant offers a varied
menu with well cooked and interesting dishes from various parts of the country, and has not made the mistake of offering entree style plated meals which simply don't work with Indian meals. Spacious seating, attentive and friendly service, and though pricey, quantities match so it evens out. The best Indian restaurant in Tribeca. The Kerala crab curry and the Baigan and Mirch ka Salon are delicious!! The bhel puri was freshly assembled and therefore, not soggy. The goat curry could have been more tender, though. The dishes from South India are more unusual and interesting, overall."

I had a great time at Benares. The
food was tasty and the ambience was great. I will definitely come again."
Dined on 2/7/2014
A wonderful experience on a cold
winter's night near City Hall. Attentive and prompt service, yet never hurrying. All the food was delicious, with many interesting dishes remaining to be tasted next time. Generous portions, reasonable prices. Highly recommended!"
Dined on 2/6/2014
The food was very good and the
service was excellent. My boyfriend and I were in a rush to see a show so we told the waiter and he made sure we got our food very quickly as not to be late. The ambiance was nice with dim lighting/candles. Overall, my experience here was great."
Dined on 2/1/2014
The staff is well dressed and
groomed. I received a warm genuine greeting and was promptly seated. I feel the restaurant has a very strong focus in customer service and were very attentive without being overbearing. We both enjoyed our meals and drinks. We will be back!"

I'm VERY particular about my
Indian food. I will eat it if it isn't great, but it will be judged and generally I don't return to most places in the city. However! Benares has basically become the food in which I now compare all other places to, replacing my original go-to restaurant. If i could, I would eat here all the time, but it's a bit out of the way so for now will have to do for the occasional spice-fix. Everything is amazing, EVERYTHING! Malai kofta, chicken tikka masala, the little crunchy things they give you when you sit down, the bread, all of it is delicious!"
Dined on 1/9/2014
As Indian food lover, I would
highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting New York. The taste is real authentic Indian. My family and I had Lamb Biryanu rice. We asked them to eggs because it wasn't on the menu, and they cooked them half-boiled just like we wanted. The Rogan Josh is also recommended. We also had potatoes with cauliflowers cooked together, I forgot the name, that one too was very delicious. We would definitely come back before our holiday ends."

Great indian restaurant near WTC
and 9/11 memorial. Would like a bit more heat in the spice, but still really good food and nice wide menu with solid Indian food. Our "rookies" to Indian food really liked it and we veterans did as well. Attentive service as well. Had the chicken vindaloo, very tasty."
Dined on 12/10/2013
I enjoyed the tasty food and the
courteous service. The fixed price vegetarian lunch was a good choice This was my 2nd visit. I mentioned it to my wife and she plans to go with a friend in the coming days."
Dined on 12/17/2013
This place was a pleasant surprise
as it was a last minute substitution for another indian place which had closed. Huge booths with high backs so each table feels like a romantic getaway. Service was great and the prices are very affordable. The waitstaff was friendly and courteous."
Dined on 12/8/2013
The food was not as good as I
remember from my first visit to this restaurant. The last time we went, the waiter had recommended amazing tasting dishes. We thought we had ordered the same dishese according to our waiter but they did not taste nor look the same. Very disappointed."
Dined on 12/7/2013
Great people. Nice, warm, inviting
greeting and service. Ate on my own recently. Took good care of me with 1/2 order of Dal (very good) and Rogan Josh. Will be back."
Dined on 11/23/2013
Delicious, innovative Indian
cuisine supported by knowledgeable and attentive servers. Loved every bite. Baby eggplant a must."
Dined on 11/20/2013
Had an excellent vegetarian lunch
- delicious chaat and wonderful eggplant. The only sour note was asking for hot tea. They didn't jasmine and then I asked for green w/honey. They had green tea but no honey. I ordered the hot tea they had and he cup was small. When I asked for more tea they didn't tell me that would be another $4. Two cups of tea for $8 - I won't make that mistake again."
Dined on 11/8/2013
Solid Indian food with servers who
were friendly and helpful. The food was nicely portioned and was delicious. I think I will come back for lunch next time."
Dined on 11/3/2013
I like Benares for lunch and
service is good. But the service is sometimes spotty. I really don't like how they deliver certain food such as the rice pudding to us - the waiter had his thumb in my bowl!!! This happend a few times."
Dined on 10/30/2013
We hada crabing for Tahi food for
quite some time and dicided to go for it and pick Benares randomly. We liked the location and the waiter and manager were very friendly but the best of all was the food. We order on the waiter suggestions and we loved our food. we were only 2 so could not taste more of the wondeful optons so we recommend to go in groups to share."
Dined on 11/2/2013
Benares is a great place if you
are looking for some good indian food. The naan bread was unbelievable fresh and the meat was so tender and well cooked."
Dined on 10/26/2013
Visiting the Financial District?
This gem is a short walk from the steak places that pervade the area. Comfortable with beautiful colors and an attentive staff, the chef took exciting liberties with spices that we had not experienced with your average Indian fare. Lovely presentation as well. Highly recommended."
Dined on 10/27/2013
I had different dishes this time -
the lamb laal maans. Delicious! The menu still impresses me with the diversity of dishes and the service was very friendly and responsive. My friend had never had a mango lassi and the waiter made her a small portion to taste which was very nice. He also offered to make a half portion of the entree that she thought she ordered but didn't and then put together a great doggie bag of everything for her to take home, including all of the chutneys. Everyone I've taken here has been very pleased. This is definitely one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been to and will be back many times I'm sure"
Dined on 10/17/2013
I went there with a group of
coworkers and we ordered from the prefix lunch menu. The food was pretty decent. They could improve in service as we have to ask them a few times for our missing orders."
Dined on 10/3/2013
Good Indian food with some
offerings atypical. We shall return."
Dined on 10/4/2013
Nice decor/ambiance. The good was
great with large portions. We ordered some samosas, a chicken biryani, a lamb rogan josh, a chicken tikka masala, a chicken curry, and some mango lassis. Everything was delicious but the biryani was especially fragrant and tasty."
Dined on 9/21/2013
You can't beat their prix fix
lunch specials, 3 courses from $10.95-16.99. From vegetarian selections to an all meat tandoori platter. The food has been consistently good. Flavorful and generously portioned. It's gets busy at lunchtime and I'd recommend a reservation. The only minus is that the service seems to get a bit jumbled. The ambience can become boisterous when all tables are full. Go hungry and have a happy time."
Dined on 9/13/2013
My team really enjoyed the meal.
It was tasty and fulling. Thank you!"
Dined on 8/23/2013
This was my third time dining at
Benares and the menu is still first rate as is the food and the presentation. The service remains very good and we especially appreciated that the manager came to tell us that when the Chef went to prepare our tuna dish he wasn't pleased with the quality and suggested a different dish. They were also happy to find out where the prawns were from. A good majority of the dishes on the menu you won't find in a typical Indian restaurant. There are also tons of vegetarian and seafood dishes. I've also never seen so many choices of breads or even raitas and lassis! Every one who I've brought to this restaurant has been very happy with their dining experience. I very much look forward to my next visit!"
Dined on 8/22/2013
We had eaten at the other NYC
location of Benares so we decided to give this one a chance. Food was very good, moderately spicy. We like our vindaloo a little spicier but it was still very good. Sides for two of the meals was a couple of very small red bliss potatoes and some rather bland carrot fries. Service was OK, quick to order and reasonable for time to delivery, however would have been nice to have our waters filled during meal, so perhaps it was a good thing that the food wasn't as spicy as we like. Overall, very good Indian food at a reasonable price, and close to a subway stop, which is very nice."
Dined on 8/20/2013
Very extensive menu (perhaps too
many choices?) Lamb shoulder...crab cake...super delicious...drinks could use some more attention. And it might help if the menu listed clearly which items are fried/batter fried and which are not...we ordered a large selection of appetizers and several of the vegetable ones turned out to be fried...which changed our dinner from "light and healthy" to "heavy and not so healthy.""
Dined on 8/9/2013
There were three vegan entrees on
the lunch menu: cauliflower, eggplant, and okra. The cauliflower was wonderful and I'm looking forward to trying the others. It would be terrific if they could add a vegan spinach dish and vegan mango lassi."
Dined on 8/7/2013
Delicious, great flavors and
presentation, lot of veggie options, tasty seabass entree Buguni Maach"
Dined on 8/6/2013
My second trip to Benares - just
as good as the first. VERY good food, and wonderful attentive service. Highly recommended."
Dined on 8/1/2013
The food flavor and quality was
excellent, although the portions were on the small side. The service was excellent. However my other reservations were that the wine list was over priced and a screaming infant at the table next to us was quite distracting for my dinner companion."
Dined on 7/27/2013
Great and attentive service from
all of the staff. Afforable prix fixe vegetarian and non-vegetarian lunch specials with a variety of choices (both appetizer and entree) and includes rice, bread, lentils and dessert."
Dined on 7/17/2013
Arrived early so sat at the bar
enjoying happy hour. Authentic food and willing to adjust the spice/heat of our food order. They even made us a Keema Naan to order which wasn't available from the menu, which was most appreciated! We shall return."
Dined on 7/2/2013
Food was delicious and menu
provides plenty of choices. Menu doesn't give any indication of level of heat in each dish, which would have been helpful. Service was generally attentive. I'd go back."
Dined on 6/28/2013
I came to dinner with two other
people. The food was very good, but we felt we were being rushed throughout the meal. The food came out shortly after ordering, but the servers kept trying to clear our table before we were even done! We had to ask a couple times for them to stop because we weren't done yet. Maybe carry out next time...."
