BellyQWe went for mother's day brunch. We went for mother's day brunch. The food was fantastic. Service was friendly and accommodating. The restaurant had a DJ playing louder music as we were leaving. It added to a fun atmosphere, but I can also see how it might distract those that wanted a more conversation friendly meal.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy Belly-fullWe loved BellyQ! They have a friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable staff. The food is an upscale twist on Korean barbecue. We especially recommend the Kimchee Hot Pot and the Lamb Shank.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMfar exceeded our expectations..I found this restaurant in Chicago Magazine's top 10 best new restaurants for 2013. I love to try new places and this place did not fall short. The server was outstanding, making recommendations and gauging our needs. The food was outstanding and the cost, reasonable for an upscale place. Try the peanut butter and jelly homemade frozen yogurt....outstanding!!!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!Came here for lunch on a whim with a colleague, and it was wonderful. Great food for a reasonable price, plus good service. Can't believe how empty it was, given the food and the value, but perhaps it picks up at dinnertime. The wait staff was thoughtful and responsive, and we took food home with us because we couldn't part with any leftovers. Yum! I'll definitely be back.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDIFFERENT KINDA BBQ!!!!The food is so unique and wonderful, we keep on going back!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGood conceptBill Kim pulled off another good concept. His food is authentically Korean and yet, it has a twist that is quite intriguing. Seafood pancake is a great example - on top of traditional Korean pancake was salmon and calamari ceviche, which worked beautifully. BellyQ beef grilled on the table was quite good and the pickles that came along with the dish was a perfect compliment. Cocktails were also very impressive.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe server was great and helpedThe server was great and helped us with our menu decisions-they were perfect! The food was excellent (and I'm usually not brave about food preparations that are different). The drinks and food, both perfect. It was a fun, delicious way to spend a Friday night!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, exceptional valueCame here on a whim, heard it was one of the best spots in Chi, and was overall very pleased. For starters, three of us ate like kings for about $150 where we would expect to spend $300-400 for a restaurant of similar caliber elsewhere. The food is brought to the table as it comes out, which means that one will not end up with a cold dish because somebody screwed up the timing in the kitchen (hey, it happens). Love it.
I am still peeved that I did not order the baby-back pork ribs, which looked and smelled amazing, and appeared to be one of the more popular dishes. I'll be back!
The only negative thing I would say about this place is that they need to teach their back servers / bussers to crumb & wipe the tables. Great server, though!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI'll go right to the end.I'll go right to the end. The donuts with soft served paired with a hot alcoholic tea drink was just incredible. We also had the lamb shank, noodle salad and a pancake, all delicious. Our server was very knowledgeable and gave us good recommendations and steered us to the right amount of food.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this restaurant. LoveLove this restaurant. Love this food. Love the Red Lotus drink. Loved the waiter but the food came out slowly and lunch took way too long. Can't wait to go back!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for brunch and lovedWe went for brunch and loved it! Their version of eggs benedict was great and I was amazed by the tempura egg. The fingerling potatoes were like dessert.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent and the manager,Excellent and the manager, Danielle was superb!! Our party grew from a 4 to a 6 and she was very accommodating. Would recommend!!!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went before a Hawks gameWe went before a Hawks game and it was perfect. Very limited menu on the expensive side and the servings are tiny. Staff was fabulous and the interior is pretty smashing.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent dining experience.Dining was a wonderful experience. The food was fantastic and our service superb. Can't say enough good things about Selena!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFrom the minute we walkedFrom the minute we walked in our service was outstanding and it carried out flawlessly throughout the night. The food and drinks lived up to the service. The soba noodle salad with shrimp was my favorite of the evening. Get the red lotus cocktail. Besides being beautiful with the shiso leaf and the basil seeds, it's delicious.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGET IN THE QUEUE AT BELLY QI read about Belly Q in Food and Wine magazine and had to come and try. We were in Chicago for business so it fit in perfectly coming from Florida. The food was RIDICULOUS! UNREAL! We have told everyone about you and look forward to returning many, many times. We had lotus flower cocktails, wine, tea; we had the spicy chicken, shrimp, Belly Q beef, lamb shank, duck, and soft serve passion fruit with pineapple gele! OUtrageously delicous! The service was incredible as well, our server was Chippa? The most gracious server. I apologize for getting her name wrong. Also, the manager was awesome, he and I are both ASU Sun Devils, as I am a native of Scottsdale, Arizona now living in Jacksonville, Florida. Well done!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMMy two visits to BellyQ wereMy two visits to BellyQ were both very consistent - great food and service. It's family style servings, so easy to try a number of their items. Our favorites - Thai Fried Chicken, Tofo hot pot (take your pick), beef short ribs and the duck breast. Just average - the pancakes and salmon.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious! Our waiterFood was delicious! Our waiter was knowledgeable about all the dishes. We selected just about everything he recommended and we were delighted! We will definitely be returning and recommending this to our friends.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved it! The food was amazing.I loved it! The food was amazing. So many great items to try. While I enjoyed the table top grilling, once was enough. If I go back, I will just have them prepare. Also, I wish the bar menu offered a little more variety but even without drinks, we had a great time.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMChicago is very fortunateChicago is very fortunate to have Bill Kim in this town.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch was excellent! WeBrunch was excellent! We will go back for dinner at some point too.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe dined early at Belly QWe dined early at Belly Q before a Blackhawks game because of the convenient location and favorable press. The dining room was not noisy yet because it was only full. All four of us were pleasantly surprised at how good the service and food were. The food was creative, well seasoned and sufficiently spicy, and the menu offered something for everyone: meat, seafood, poultry and vegetables. Our group especially enjoyed the poached shrimps, slaws, baby back ribs and soba noodles. Now if the bar would pour a better drink (quantity not quality), Belly Q would be perfect!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticFantastic, fantastic, fantastic, seriously one of the best restaurants we have been to in Chicago. Every single course was delicious, our waiter was very helpful, we managed to grill our main courses on the table grill. The wine wasn't great, but everything else was excellent - highly recommend!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMReally cool interior withReally cool interior with a lot of creative design aspects, and as for food you can't go wrong no matter what you order.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMiraculousThey said the Asian miracle was the Korean economy. Now they say it's Samsung. No, the Asian miracle is BellyQ.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMCool layout and very tastyCool layout and very tasty Korean-style food. Thai chicken appetizer was delicious. Short rib dinner was also really good. Great bar up front with knowledgeable mixologists. Best part: the DJ in the middle of the dining room playing the perfect background music to fit the atmosphere. She rocks!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMPlease get smaller spoonsPlease get smaller spoons for the soup bowls. They're to heavy and knocked over my soup several times...3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMBest. Birthday. Ever.My husband and I were there for my birthday dinner on March 26.
The staff was incredible, the food outstanding.
My sincere thanks to Chef Kim for another great 'Belly' experience.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for Brunch w/kidsBelly Q was very fun & energetic. How often do you get a live DJ at brunch with a great mix up upbeat but not very loud music. We brought our 18th month old and she loved walking in and dancing to the beat. I probably not kid friendly after 7:00 pm but before that they take it in stride & handle kids with ease. Food was very good with SE Asian Spicy & fresh ingredients but not over spicy(just like what we had in vietnam last year). I just don't understand though why some restaurants are taking reservations through open table but not giving points for it. To me if someone spends more than $25.00 per person in one visit what is the big deal of giving 100 points? skip banana yogurt shake but all other items outstanding.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding!Everything about Belly Q was fantastic from the minute we stepped in the door, starting with the hostess. Outstanding staff and food. Our group of four shared 8 dishes and all of them had such unique flavors, each dish was amazing! Definitely one of the top 10 restaurants in the city!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFood very flavorful. ServerFood very flavorful. Server very knowledgeable about the preparation of the foods.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLamb shank was excellent andLamb shank was excellent and the shrimp red curry app. Could have done without the salad with rice puff and seafood hot pot soup. Great food overall, our server was super friendly.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good. The food was very good. We enjoyed everything we tried. We ate off the Chef's Week menu. The restaurant is very loud once it gets full. Our waiter was very attentive and answered all of our questions. We enjoyed very much want to go back for the grilling experience and brunch.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMVery friendly and comfortableVery friendly and comfortable for a Hipsters place. Staff was fun, helpful and available. The food is a unique fusion of Asian and current flavors. Great evening for my party. Menu takes some careful consideration, ask lots of questions.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAn update on Koran BBQ withAn update on Koran BBQ with some great savory numbers. Wants to stay a step ahead of Asian fusion3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMMy friends and I went hereMy friends and I went here for Chef's Week and really enjoyed everything about this place. This place is very modern and has an overall very chic look to it. We started with a few cocktails at the bar and all enjoyed our own. Once seated I was the only one that did not order off the chefs week menu. My group and I decided we would share everything so we could taste multiple dishes. I really enjoyed the Thai chicken appitizer, all the entrees we ordered were good, the duck would be my favorite. I did not like the lemon/ginger sauce though. The rolls they give you on side are fabulous!!! The finale was defiantly the best part the Cinnamon doughnuts with Carmel sauce are to die for!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMBellyQ is Fabulous!! Our serverBellyQ is Fabulous!! Our server (Nicholas) was very knowledgeable, helpful and extremely pleasant. The food was sooooo flavorful and filling. The flavors, aromas and textures gave a supremely satisfying sensory experience. My friend said it was almost better than sex and felt like she should have had a cigarette. Can't wait to experience the table grills.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat eveningMy husband and I had sampled Bill Kim's food at an event before and loved it, so we decided to take our son here for his 21st birthday. Given the negative reviews on this site, I was feeling a bit hesitant, but every aspect of the evening was terrific. The hostess, bartenders and our waiter could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Courses were spaced well and the food itself was outstanding. It was great to see Bill Kim front and center keeping things moving between the staff and the kitchen.
To the person that complained on wines on tap...it's a new trend. The wine is held in stainless steel kegs keeping it fresher and it also means less waste for the restaurant so it's greener as well.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMMy boyfriend and I went forMy boyfriend and I went for Chef Week 2013 for brunch. The food was outstanding and we will likely try this place again. My favorite dish was the cinnamon donuts with soy-balsamic caramel. So good! Our service was very good as well. Our server was able to recommend some very good things to try (they make their own specialty sodas- I had a blueberry ginger soda which was delicious). Our dining experience was very comfortable and the atmosphere was laid back, yet nice. I would recommend this restaurant.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFlavorable food in an enenvironmentExcellent food and drinks. We ordered all over the menu. The Thai fried chicken, any of the pancakes and the grills are favorites. The cocktails are creative and the sake is excellent. The place is vibrant and energetic and the service is friendly, quick and professional. The one thing I'd criticize is the wait for our table. We ended up waiting over 20 minutes, even though we had a reservation. Love going to this restaurant, though.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely a foodie destination.Absolutely a foodie destination. Everything we ordered was outstanding and we all would and will go again.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMconsistentl scrumptiousBartender was a little off that night. Otherwise great as usual. Pork belly and kimchee pancake was a hit, salmon on banana leaf was excellent, beef was lovely, sides were a great addition.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMeets high expectationsEvery bite of our food was phenomenal. The korean short ribs, tea smoked duck breast and bacon/kimchi pancakes were highlights. Great cocktails and I dug the modern-industrial decor.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't wait to return for ramen! We will be back here. The food was amazingly deep & rich in flavor, portions were quite decent for the money and waitstaff very well trained, extremely knowledgeable about the food & drinks and very friendly.
We came for Restaurant Week and augmented the dinner with small bites and more.
The Thai Fried Chicken was crispy, red, sticky & only slightly spicy - w/3 or was it 4? good sized pieces of chicken. Ordered steamed buns to mop up the sauce. Soba noodles w/shrimp - great dressing. Eggplant is a must side.
Salmon in banana leaf was tender and moist, BBQ ribs also. Tea smoked pork chop - good flavor but pretty tough.
Ice cream so smooth and silky - order it alone with no toppings to appreciate the flavor. El Presidente our favorite dr2/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat flavors, casual upscaleThe food is upscale, but the atmosphere is relaxed and laid back. The flavors are out of this world, and carnivores and vegetarians can appreciate the menu and get plenty full. Sharing plates is the best way to go here!1/17/2013 12:00:00 AM
