Diner Reviews
  • "We had to wait 45 min. for our first course. The experience was made tolerable due to the deliciousness of the food once it finally arrived. We tasted delightful flavor combinations we had not experienced before. Portions were small & quite expensive, but oh so delicious!"

  • "1rst time going, 2 months ago - it was great. I've gone twice since & the service was beyond slow & food portions got incredibly smaller. Ordered 2 different wines, took the server for ever to discover they were out if both & food went down hill from there. My guess is they got too busy & the kitchen & staff do a poor job @ keeping up."

  • "The weather was unseasonably cool when we went, so most people were sitting outside on the patio. We elected to sit inside, and were one of only a few tables occupied on the interior. The small plates are small, but tasty. If sharing, I recommend that you order a couple of small plates for your apps. Cocktails were well balanced and not overly sweet. My husband liked his meal a little more than I did, but we both enjoyed and would go back."

  • "Granted it was a Monday and the weather was bad, but when I arrived for my 7:00 reservation and found the restaurant empty I started to worry. There is a difference between innovative, creative and forward thinking; and just plain weird. The menu veers toward the weird. A starter of smoked golden beets with heirloom tomatoes could have been delightful. The problem was the smoke flavor was so strong and pervasive it lingered on the palate long after the dish was consumed. A turkey dish with a combination of 'confit' of dark meat and sous-vide prepared white meat medallions had a host of issues. It was served with a mediocre mole and some type of over-salted suace for the confit. The white meat came out a disquieting pink."

  • "Charlie was a great server. Intelligent on the menu/wine always there when you needed him. Starters were very good - had the foie gras and watermelon w/ cashews. Entrees were mixed. Had the turkey mole and the lobster with pork belly. Turkey mole confit was delicious, sliced turkey tastes like something from the grocery store. It was chewy and cheap tasting. There was too much lobster juice in the curry of the lobster/ pork belly dish. Had high hopes after the starters, but waned after the entres. I got the sense they were trying to be too complicated. I will try it again, but will stay with starters."

  • "My third occasion to dine here, and again an excellent experience. The almond soup is a must. The burger is better than Knife and the Grape."

  • "Food was fantastic and staff was attentive. Went on July 4th though when the place was only 1/2 full. Not sure what is like on regular nights, I assume much more crowded. Very creative menu and drink options. Nice portions."

  • "Overall a good dinner...food, service, ambiance. Charlie our server was fantastic, but drinks from the bar and food coming out of the kitchen were slow. So we ordered a good Pinot Noir, sat back and relaxed. Highly recommend the Lobster and Pork Belly dish...outstanding!"

  • "The kitchen was very slow, the menu a little limited, and portions were small, but the taste was very good."

  • "We dined in a group of 5 and I believe our waiter was overwhelmed from the start. Our cocktails came at different times and one diner waited 10 minutes for a simple drink after we all were served. Things came out in a strange order and we had to send the brussels sprout side dish back because it was burned. We were all surprised it was served to us. The other dishes were very good and since I've been there before I will give it another try. There is a definite disconnect between the wait staff and the bar though."

  • "When their executive Chef is in the house, the food is the best I've eaten in Dallas or Fort Worth - and I've eaten out here A LOT -Pyles, Dean Ferring, Tim Love, and Bonnell's place. This food is another couple of steps up. I've tried the tasting menu (excellent) as well as eating a la carte on a separate occassion. The oysters were really good, the tuna tartare was outstanding, the salmon was beatifully cooked, and really, there was nothing less than really good food on the menu and some of it was as good as I've had in Michelin starred restaurants. Thanks to our praise worthy server, Sam. Great experience overall in a chic renovated home. Biggest thanks to the Chef who was nice enough to come to our table on a Sat night and say "hi"."

  • "Food not worth the price. Waited 20 minutes after appetizer course to receive entree. Server brought entree and waiter didn't reappear until after we had consumed our entree. Lobster overcooked and chewy. The only thing memorable is the disappointment in the food and the cost! Portion size and quality of food not worth what we paid."

  • "The food was outstanding. Small and large plate offerings are great so a person can sample a variety of dishes. The service staff were very attentive and knew the menu. Good wine list. Happening area"
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "The food was of good quality with imaginative, creative touches and good use of seasonal products. However, the portions were quite small with no amuse or bread provided before the meal. The wine list is concise with limited options, but serviceable. Service was initially brisk, but quickly fell off to MIA. Would go again for the quality of the food, but B&T will not be on my short list of go-to restaurants."

  • "Charming and cozy home atmosphere created a memorable evening. Much different than any other spot I have dined at in Dallas. Food was incredible and our waiter was so pleasant. Will for sure go back!!"

  • "I was very pleasantly surprised with Belly and Trumpet. We had a prior negative experience there, but decided to give it another try. I'm glad we did. The service was extremely pleasant and the food was very good. The menu changes seasonally, but the if the smoked beet salad is there you should try it. It was absolutely delicious and was beautiful. The Thai-influenced smoked hen appetizer was less interesting. The whole flash-fried branzino was perfectly prepared and delicious. I really appreciated the good number of wines by the glass - great selection at a variety of price points - sparkling, rose', red and white. We will be back. I want to emphasize again that I appreciate the great service!"

  • "Great, ever-changing menu. One standout was a pork belly and lobster pairing served with a coconut curry sauce. Everything we ordered was delicious and I would highly recommend going for a special occasion or to treat yourself. Note, the portions are rather small so do not expect to get overwhelmingly full unless you order multiple items per person."

  • "This is my third time at Belly and Trumpet and the restaurant yet again satisfies. My fiance and I enjoy our meals and more specifically I enjoyed the watermelon salad. A refreshing taste of summer watermelon with Thai chili and the peanuts added much needed texture. Looking forward to another visit."

  • "We had a recent dinner, and it was great. Wonderful ambiance - a bit funky, hip, upscale but friendly in a renovated house. Food selection is limited but superbly done - fresh, imaginative, varied, well executed. Best appetizers were gnocchi, shrimp beignet, and tuna tartare. Whole branzino was an amazing entree, and the hanger steak is very nice as well. This was our second time there - nothing to complain about. One of the best restaurants in Dallas these days."

  • "Lovely food presented for both sharing and being selfish! I loved the menu - and the kale, chorizo and potato soup was one of the best soups I've ever eaten. The side of Brussels Sprouts were amazing, too. My only disappointment was learning how often the menu changes and that I may not get them again!! :)"

  • "This is our fifth visit and we can't wait to go back. The menu changes and something to look forward to each time. The service is one of the best in Dallas!"

  • "Can't believe it took thiis long to go to this restaurant. Had a great time and a great meal. Wish their wine list was a little more reasonable though."

  • "This is complex but not over done gourmet cuisine! The almond soup alone is worth going. The scallops, the chicken, the foie grass turchons----simply exquisite. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the food & almost intuitive in her service. "

  • "Spectacular food, well-balanced wine list. Foie gras available on many dishes (had some in our appetizer, and a grilled slab on my burger). Everything was cooked exactly as requested. The service wasn't perfect, but if you're looking for a relaxed night with outrageous food, this place has got you covered."

  • "After a few recommendations from friends we decided to try Belly and Trumpet. Everything was over the too delicious! I would recommend doing the chefs tasting, it is a beautiful sample of the menu and not too much food. "

  • "Remarkably inventive 3-course brunch menu. The kimchi omelet beneath sliced hanging tender was an especially delicious entree. The bloody mary was one of the best I have tried. Well done."

  • "A dear friend took me to Belly and Trumpet very soon after it opened. We had a wonderful meal, excellent service, and an enjoyable time. On her birthday, we returned, with 7:30 reservations, hoping for a similar experience and it was memorably unpleasant. We had a bottle of wine and both ordered green salads, bouillabaisse (that appeared with no shell fish and only white fish swimming in a broth because, according to the waitperson, they had sold so many that evening and run out of shellfish!), and chocolate mousse. The meal was adequate but not special. The food was delivered with no follow-up service. We poured the wine and had to find the pepper mill and serve ourselves. The waitperson was condescending and completely inattentive."

  • "This was my second time dining at Belly and Trumpet. The first time was excellent and decided to return with another couple for dinner. Unfortunately, the service was terrible this time. Our dinner experience was almost three hours and most of the time was waiting for our waiter to come back to our table. One person in our party did not get his entrée; we were told the kitchen made a mistake. I ordered a salad and it never arrived. In addition, our drinks were slow to arrive and I had to ask twice for my second cocktails. I was disappointed in the experience due to raving about our first experience. My guests were not impressed and are unlikely to return."

  • "I'm a foodie from out of town and belly and trumpet was recommended to me. It was a beautiful night so we sat outside, the indoor seating area looked fun as well. We all got burgers at my table, they were excellent! Get it with the egg! I also definitely recommend the Brussels sprouts, they were to die for!!!"
