But the courses served are beautiful and terrifically tasteful and varied. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and willingly helpful about the menu and wine list. Bellanico has the friendly feel of a neighborhood hangout. We had a chance to converse with a young couple with an infant about food and parenting. What a pleasant surprise! Tucked in a neighborhood storefront, the layout is simple and unassuming. But the food! Every selection was fresh with simply delicious flavors. This is "Italian" food, but not like any I've experienced before! European portion sizes meant we could savor several items and still leave the place feeling satisfied, but not stuffed. Our waiter was patient - the menu is surprisingly extensive and varied - and very knowledgeable. My wife and I shared a glass of a very good Piedmontese white. Reasonable price, too: $84 + tip for the four of us. The service was superior, attentive but not over the top. The food was excellent - a special shout out to the risotto, which was vegan (except for the cheese) but was as hearty as any with meat sauce! HE LOVED IT - we three had the steak, pork chop, and children. Each of us talked at length about the quality, smells, and, of course, taste of these delightful dishes. Each felt as if it had be prepared just for us. My friends had white wine - lots of it - the Spanish and Italian varieties - I'm more of a merlot man. For appetizers, we had the combo - that's a taste of all the available items - the meatballs were to die for - as was everything else.
